Nothing

Let's
skip all the clever moralizing and jump right to the central question
here:
Why the heck doesn't Vince
just
chill on the smut for a while?
I'm sick and tired of discussing whether or not the 'Trish' thing
was right or wrong. Let's assume for a second that it just doesn't
matter if it was right or wrong. The fact remains that it gave
a
lot of ammunition to Vince's critics. I cannot
believe that even Vince McMahon could honestly belive that the
'Trish'
skit wouldn't cause an uproar. In fact, let's stop
playing
coy about this folks, Vince WANTED it to cause
an uproar. All the cutesy little "but the WWF
has
ALWAYS done such and such, blah blah blah" defenses on the
planet won't change the fact that Vince went way too far this
time,
and he KNEW he was going way too far. It's extremely dishonest
to
take a course of action intended specifically to cause controversy,
then complain when the controversy actually arrives.
So,
Vince
(and by extension the WWF and wrestling as a whole) have been
getting
the living hell kicked out of them by the mainstream media. It
seems
to me that a smart man would of backed off a little, especially
since he had absolutely nothing to lose by doing so. But
instead of just letting the whole thing die, Vince continues
to rub our noses in it show after show. Replays, references,
his "live sex act" skit- he reminds me of that geeky kid in high
school that had no freakin' clue when the joke just isn't funny
anymore.
A lot
of my fellow Net Writers act like they've had the part of their
brain that's capable of rational thought surgically removed. They
pretend they're too stupid to see any shades of difference between
Lita's thong showing and Trish acting out Vince's rape fantasies.
Grow up, guys, because the world as a whole ain't buying it, and
I ain't buying it either. The two are NOT equivalent.
I ask:
Would Smackdown really lose ratings if they didn't resort to extreme
levels of offensiveness? I'm not even saying that they should
abandon
T&A. However, and this is the point I really wish my fellow Net
writers would understand, there' s a line where "entertaining
T&A" becomes "irresponsible and harmful bullshit",
and Vince has crossed it.
Vince
strikes me as a guy whose ego simply will not allow him to abandon
a stupid idea, even if it's hurting him in the long run. And that's
the real problem with the Trish angle: it's pointless and stupid.
With ratings sinking and the XFL sucking wind, now is NOT the
time
to be making dumbass macho gestures. Vince needs to give it up
already,
and just let the it die. Somehow though, I just don't see it happening.
Nah, instead Vince will strut, prance, and stick to his pointless,
idiotic, self-destructive guns, and all us good little fans will
line up behind him, moaning "Why does the media hafta be
so
mean to poor Vince?"
