BLAH

Here is the second of sixteen WrestleMania recaps. WM2 was revolutionary where it was held in 3 different arenas, in 3 different cities and 3 different time zones. As far as I can tell, there were 3 main events, one for each city.

WrestleMania II
Nassau Coliseum
Long Island, New York
April 7, 1986

Commentators: Vince McMahon & Susan St. James

Magnificent Muraco (w/ Mr. Fuji) vs. Paul Orndorff

Result: Double count-out at 4:36

Comments: Not bad. Orndorff controlled most of the match but the ending was lame. Not my choice to open the big one.

Intercontinental Title Match

Champion
Randy Savage (w/ Elizabeth) vs. George Steele

Result: Savage pins Steele in the corner with his feet on the middle rope in 7:07

Comments: Definitely not Savage's best effort. This was a lame match to have. Vince should have booked Savage with Orndorff or someone better than Steele. Oh well.

George Wells vs. Jake Roberts

Result: Roberts hits the DDT on Wells for the pin at 3:07

Comments: Well, Wells did look good early but it looks like Jake was wanting to get backstage for another drink. He looked like he didn't want to be there.

New York Main Event: Boxing Match

Guest Ring Announcer: Joan Rivers
Guest Judges: Darryl Dawkins, Cab Calloway, G. Gordon Liddy
Guest Timekeeper: Herb (Who the hell is this guy? He was in the ring walking really gay and shit) (Famous Burger King commercial dude - young whippersnapper - CRZ)

Roddy Piper (w/ Bob Orton & Lou Duva vs Mr. T (w/ Joe Frazier & Haiti Kid)

Result: Piper was disqualified at about 1:18 of the 4th round after he slammed Mr. T

Comments: Looked rehearsed but it was still not bad at all. Mr. T. went down at the 2:00 mark and 3:00 mark of round 2 while Piper went down at about 1:58 of the 3rd round. Post-match shows lots of shoving and pushing. On to......

Rosemont Horizon
Chicago, Illinois

Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Gene Okerlund and Cathy Lee Crosby

Women's Title Match

Champion
Fabulous Moolah vs. Velvet McIntyre

Result: Moolah pins McIntyre in 0:56

Comment: Not much to say here but....it should have never been on the card. Promise showed though for McIntyre at this point. She had some cool moves for the time.

Flag Match

Nikolai Volkoff (w/ Fred Blassie) vs. Corporal Kirchner

Result: Kirchner wins with a botched kane shot on Volkoff in 1:27

Comment: Another shitty match. I don't know if the time is correct but who cares? It sucked, period.

20 Man Battle Royal

Guest Ring Announcer: Gene Okerlund
Guest Timekeeper: Claire Peller (the "where's the beef lady")
Guest Referees: Dick Butkus & Ed "Too Tall" Jones

Result: Andre the Giant wins, last eliminating Bret Hart at 9:11

Comments: The match included 14 of the WWF's superstars and 6 NFL stars including: Bill Fralic, William Perry, Jim Covert and 3 others I cannot remember. Foregone conclusion though that Andre would win.

Tag Title Match

Champions
G. Valentine & B. Beefcake (w/ J. Valiant) vs. British Bulldogs (w/ L. Albano & Ozzy Osborne)

Result: Bulldogs win the titles in 12:02 after Davy Boy whips Valentine into Dynamite Kid.

Comments: What the hell did Ozzy have to do with this? Other than that, this was a great match, all four men worked hard and what a bump for Dynamite at the end of the match!!

Los Angeles Sports Arena
Los Angeles, California

Commentators: Jesse Ventura, Lord Alfred Hayes & Elvira

Hercules Hernandez vs. Ricky Steamboat

Result: Steamboat with a flying body press on Hernandez at 7:31

Comments: Quick start for Hernandez. Was paced well by both men. Saw some good things from both men as well. Good match overall.

Adrian Adonis (w/ Jimmy Hart) vs. Uncle Elmer

Result: I guess it was a flying headbutt or something anyways, Adonis pins Elmer in 3:50

Comments: Jesus!! Another shitty match. This should have never made WM at all. I don't think they recall this one as far as becoming a legend goes. Yuck!

Terry & Dory Funk Jr. (w/ Jimmy Hart) vs. Tito Santana & Junk Yard Dog

Result: Terry pins JYD after a megaphone shot to the head in 11:45

Comments: Just one....Terry Funk ruled this match. The man was a maniac all through this one. Throwing chairs and all sorts of stuff. Match was kinda sloppy but has there been a Funk masterpiece since the 70's?

Cage Match: WWF Title

Guest Ring Announcer: Tommy Lasorda
Guest Timekeeper: Ricky Schroeder
Guest Referee: Robert Conrad

Champion
Hulk Hogan vs. King Kong Bundy (w/Bobby Heenan)

Result: Hogan retains the title by climbing over the cage in 10:11

Comments: Typical WM Hogan match for the next 7 years. He gets his ass kicked then comes back at the end. Oh well, here is to the run of main events for the "Great Ego"

Overall Event Comments: Not bad if you throw out all the shitty matches. I liked the idea of having it in 3 cities at one time. Really cool stuff. The matches that stood out were the Tag Titles, the Funks/Santana & JYD match. Boxing should stay in boxing.

Next time: The biggest WrestleMania of all time in my opinion and what is arguably the single greatest match in WrestleMania's history. Rick Steamboat v. Randy Savage for the IC Belt.
