BLAH

THE MAT POTATO

Did you ever have one of those days where whatever you touched turned into raw sewage?

It seems that WCW is going through a similar phase right now. They just can't seem to buy a break to save their (corporate) lives.

The phrase "the inmates running the asylum" springs right to mind here. It's painfully obvious that whoever is "in charge" has absolutely no idea what (s)he is doing. It seems that we all want to scream "here's a dollar, buy a clue!".

Why am I ragging on the WCW like I do? Is it because I hate them that much?

No. It's because I love wrestling that much. WCW used to provide me with the alternative to "sports entertainment", and gave me some good in-ring product. That was a long time ago, though, and they seem to have gotten caught up in the "me too" syndrome.

But Mr. Ed is dead, so no sense continuing to flog him. (**tweet** 15 yards for piling on!)

Getting back to how WCW can't catch a break, I was watching WCW Saturday Night, and I saw Hacksaw come out with the T.V. belt. I know that a lot of people on the net are decrying that move, saying that the belt ought to stay in the trash, but what the hell. Hacksaw is over with the fans, so let him get a few pops and a bit of gold. After cleaning toilets under the PTB regime, he deserves something!

So, who comes out from the back to challenge him? Robert Gibson???? What? When he walked out, my first thought was "Adrian Adonis revisited!". I mean, did you see him? He's porked way up. And he looked like he'd aged 20 years. (Then again, it's been quite awhile since I saw him, so that could explain it.)

For those who don't get the Adrian Adonis reference, he was a very talented wrestler in the 70's and 80's. He was Jesse "The Body" Ventura's tag partner. Then he vanished for a bit. When he resurfaced in the WWF during the mid 80's, he was huge! He looked like a beer barrel with legs.

Unfortunately, he died of a heart attack, probably caused by all the excess weight he was packing around.

It's not only drugs that get to the wrestlers. When they're no longer in serious training, for whatever reason, they tend to baloon up. It's common for most athletes to end up doing that. Their training may have been scaled back, but their eating habits haven't been.

A friendly word of advice to Gibson. Get back in the gym, and watch what you're putting in your mouth. Seriously. Take it from one who is paying heavy dues for his lifetime of eating whatever he felt like.

The injuries in the WCW just seem to keep rolling right along. Sid gets brained by JJ before the PPV and ends up with a concussion. Did somebody switch guitars when JJ wasn't looking? Or was it just a bad shot? Whatever, Sid isn't the only one suffering from that blow.

Speaking of not being able to buy a break, Scott Hall is in serious trouble, from the last report I heard. Scott Hall is truly one of the most tragic stories in recent memory. He has a lot going for him, but he wasn't able to exorcise the demons that plague his life. Then, to add to his personal problems, he is seriously injured on the PPV.

I wish him a speedy recovery, and I sincerely hope that he takes this as a wake-up call. Perhaps this time out of action will allow him a chance to seriously reflect on what is happening in his life, where it's headed, and what he needs to do to get things back on track for him. He's a charismatic guy and I'll miss him while he's out of action. However, I'm hoping he'll get his head right and climb back.

WCW and Scott Hall. Just two more examples of potential, terribly wasted.
