BLAH

THE CLOUDING OF OBJECTVITY

I'm writing this column freehand at 2:34AM EST on a Thursday night/ Friday morning.

Now what would possess me to write my thoughts out this early in the morning? Shouldn't I be having a wet dream or something? Err...

Well, the writing bug hit me just a couple of minutes ago. As usual, it's about wrestling and it's as unusual as just about everything else I write for this site.

I laid in my bed thinking about what to write about. A comparison between puroresu and pornography kicked in for some reason. But then, my mind wandered to this week of the non-Russo wCw.

I watched fair bit of both shows this week. I found myself more entertained watching the shows than in previous weeks. Even a markout here and there.

"3 COUNT VS. JUNG DRAGONS?! ON NITRO?! FUCK YOU, RUSSO! HA HA HA!" was a memorable one. Yes, it was.

But thinking about my opinion on this week's shows, I realized that my enjoyment was because of a lack of Vince Russo.

Duh. :)

Fine, but here's where I kick in all that supposed intelligence that I've supposedly worked up for the last 19 years.

Suppose that I didn't know Russo was on the outs. Suppose I thought he booked both of these shows in the exact same way they were booked this week. Would I have enjoyed it as much then?

Unfortunately, my personal feeling is no.

Weeks upon weeks of the "same old shit" do a damn good job of lowering one's expectations. They also do a damn good job of slanting your viewpoint so much that the negative aspects will be harped upon more than usual.

This same thing, I believe, is what happened to me, to a certain extent, during the April 10th Nitro, which was the beginning of the Bischoff/ Russo Era.

We, the fans, were sick of the bland Sullivan booked Nitros. When your top face is Sid and he is going up in a seemingly endless feud with an overpushed Jeff Jarrett, fans just aren't gonna tune in.

So when "Crash TV" came back to grace us once more, many of us fans tuned in. Out of curiosity. Hopefully, this would be better than the Nitros previous.

There was a mixed reaction to the show. Needless to say, it was different enough from the Sullivan Nitros that this HAD to be well received by somebody.

That's what I think hit a few of us watching Nitro this past weekend.

But hey, how many of you didn't markout when GI Bro was FINALLY put to death?

My reaction to it was "YES! HE'S BACK! BOOKER T IS THE MAN! GO TO HELL, RUSSO"

My reaction to this if Russo booked this angle in the exact same way would be "Heh..guess Russo finally come to his senses, that fucking Long Island piece of shit..."

What I'm really trying to say that we, as wrestling fans, tend to let our emotions get the best of us. Sometimes so much that it clouds our objectivity and judgement way more than usual.

But we already know that, right? Right?

Heaven forbid we actually watch a wrestling show with an open mind. I know I don't.
