GUITARS
I just recently bought a bass guitar. A bass guitar named Bessy. She's a red Yamaha RBX-Series E-Bass. She's beautiful. looking at it, it makes me wonder why musicians oftentimes decide to slam their guitars down in a million pieces after a rock concert. For God's sake, those are musical instruments! They cost damn good money! And that makes me think about professional wrestling. I watch a lot of professional wrestling, even though a lot of it really sucks nowadays. One thing that I see often is the use of guitars. Wrestlers like Jeff Jarrett and New Jack use them to finish off their opponents. Okay, so these are made so that they break easily. Now that's all good and all, but what kind of precedent does this send to the young people? Do these wrestlers know what horrible trend they are starting with their guitar-induced violence??? When I didn't have Bessy, I had a huge want for a bass guitar. It's all I wanted. I saved up enough money and got enough money from selling my books from last semester to buy her. Now, it's a fair bet that I'll never become a rock star. It's also a fair bet that I'll never be a revolutionary player. But the desire has still been fulfilled. I can say right now that she was worth every penny that I spent on her. But what can the people who run these wrestling promotions say? Are the guitars they used worth every penny they spent to get them? Nope, the guitars weren't worth a damn thing to them. It's only a prop for said wrestler to draw a pop when it's being bashed into another dude's head. A wrestler can use a lot of other things. Chairs. Irons. Shit like that. Guitars are different, however. Guitars have always struck me as mystical instruments. Things that can make the most beautiful of sounds if played correctly by someone. Why is someone like Eddie Van Halen loved by millions of people? Now imagine this mystical instrument that can make the most beautiful of sounds instead being used to bash into some guy's head. I'd bet that some kid will use the old guitar lying around his house to bash into one of his friends at one of their backyard wrestling federation get-togethers. That sounds SO wrong. Guitars are wonderful instruments that have helped change society about a million times more than a Goldberg spear or a People's Elbow ever will. A kid could put a guitar to better use than to use it as a foreign object in a backyard wrestling fed. I'd imagine the hurt that some kid would feel when that acoustic pounds right through his or her head. There is no way in hell I'd use pound somebody over the head with an acoustic guitar. If it was old and the strings were worn out, then I'd go buy me some new strings and learn how to put them back in. It would be put to better use playing "American Pie" than using it in some insane fashion. Guitars weren't made to be used as violent objects. They were used to make music and entertain people. Now maybe the "El Kabong" spot is entertaining to people, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. When a guitar gets destroyed, whether it be in a professional wrestling event, a backyard wrestling fed, or at a rock concert, it's another guitar that could have been put to better use. Think about it.
