BLAH

WEEKLY RAMBLINGS

My big mistake last week was to forget to mention how the very cool band At the Drive In is finally getting some national exposure. I've been listening to these guys for a while, and I highly recommend their latest: "Relationship of Command."

I did watch wcw this week... and while I didn't catch all of it, that footage of Sid was sick... nasty nasty break... but apart from that REALLY long intro, the show didn't appear to come off too bad. Of course, it's only week one into Eric's reign so I'll plan the waiting game for now.

I am sickened at how outraged some people got over the MLK day inappropriacies on Raw (that isn't even a word... but still). I really don't think we should change our lives just because it happens to be a day honoring a great man. Raw mentioned the day festivities in a positive light at the beginning of the show, but they shouldn't have to change their content over it. If that match appeared on any other day, people like E.C. Ostermeyer over on Wrestleline wouldn't have blinked. So, in retort, I suggest everyone go over to Wrestleline and take a look at Steve Anderson's "Here come the PC police." Great GREAT column.

Raw was average. They aren't putting on spectacular shows, but they aren't boring me yet either. I do prefer one on one strong main events, a la Stone Cold/Angle, as opposed to these crazy tag matches. And I'm already going to check out the XFL, but Vince shilling for it every week is getting old. I think subtle things like Steph wearing the XFL jacket or something work just as well, and avoid pissing people off to the point of them not watching the show just to spite Vince. I also challenge CRZ that Steph can act, just not that well. (heheh!)

On a side note, can I just say if you're going to go to a live event to display your sign, at least write it grammatically correct. I'm so sick of seeing "I'm here your not" signs. Come on people, they teach this stuff in junior high.

As for the WWF building up the Rumble. Usually I'm pretty excited, but over the years the WWF has done a pretty good job of making the winner one of a couple of people. It would be nice to see a shock or a surprise... and I'm not talking about a surprise like Chyna winning the thing because I really think her whole trip should have run it's course by now. I think she's accomplished a lot in her life, but I really don't want her rammed down my throat on TV every week.

It would be nice to have another Diesel situation where someone goes in there and completely cleans house for a while. That'd be a good way to build up a new main event star.

Speaking of building up new stars... . I usually steer clear of WWF official magazines, but I took a look at one a few days ago, and they have neat little feature running in there now about up and coming stars. It must have been in RAW magazine but don't quote me on that. One of the guys had vampire teeth that reminded me of Gangrel. And where the hell did he go?

Back to the Rumble. It seems Big Show just has a stigma on him right now. I think if he had been built up a little better as a face and then headed down to Ohio as planned -- maybe he could have benefited greatly from a tear through the competition at the rumble. They were doing good with him for a while. When he was destroying people right and left, throwing cars on Holly and chokeslamming Undertaker through the ring, he was only headed up. I can't fathom how the writers can't get a good thing going with the Big Show. But given his physique, he really doesn't belong in the mid card. Oh well....

Then... the title match should be almost Main Event (apart from the Rumble).. .yet there's hardly any build up to it.. well, none like in prior years. I remember the Ultimate Warrior and Macho King getting into it way before the culmination of King costing Warrior at the Rumble against Sgt. Slaughter... and no one really even thought Slaughter would win at that point (prior to complete monster heel-dom). But still, HHH just gets thrown in there last week by Vince? I hope there's more to this then we're seeing right now. It could be a great culmination of last summer's events, it just should have been put together better.

Here's hoping the WWF put on as good a show as they should be able to put on.

In the world of music, Godsmack and Staind are headed out on tour in the "Wake the Fuck up Tour." (I just love the name of that tour.)

In other music news: Jason left Metallica for greener pastures. I saw this coming prior to the Load album when he chastised the band for changing their image too quick. Still, he's a great bassist that I've been following since Flotsam and Jetsam... so good luck to him. And good luck to Metallica, one of my favorite bands even after all these years.

It's not really metal, but check out Lifehouse... before they get REALLY popular. They're a great band that have put out what will probably end up being one of the best albums of the year (I my opinion).

That's it.
