BLAH

Another abbreviated week in the wide world of wrestling. Let me start off by saying it's pretty obvious what my favorite part of Raw was... it involved a certain owner's daughter and a shirt... and that's all I have to say about that.

By the way: thanks for the responses for my top picks for metal CD's comment last week... got some new bands I may have to check out.

While on that topic: my boys Slipknot are up for a Grammy... and while I believe in neither the Grammies nor the Oscars it's nice to see them getting some recognition.

I did get into New York but couldn't get anywhere near Time's Square... so next time (which will hopefully be soon) I'll swing by there... maybe I can take some pictures and see if CRZ can include them with something.

I finally finished up Summerslam 95 last night... God, that main event with Diesel facing off against Mabel sucked. The ending came out of nowhere. But the ladder match was exceptional. (Note: I have seen the show before -- just been going through some old tapes; for those of you just tuning in.) Michael's took a great bump when Razor reversed a suplex attempt.... basically, Shawn was attempting to suplex Razor into the ring, and Razor reversed it. Here's why the spot was so cool: nowadays when that happens the guy sort of spins in the air and lands almost on his feet and it doesn't look that spectacular. But Michael's went right over, landing on his back, and almost hooking his feet on the guardrail in the process. AWESOME.

Which leads to me proclaiming Shawn Michael's as one of the greatest wrestlers ever... and maybe, just maybe I'll be inspired to do a list someday of my top 10 wrestlers or the past 10-15 years.

While it was slow on the TV side of things, I actually bought the "King of the Deathmatch" DVD last weekend. It a group of guys from Japan doing this FMW (I think it was) (--Frontier Martial Wrestling?) (I need to pay more attention) thing.

Anyway, it wasn't quite as intense as I had hoped, but had some nice little matches... including: Cactus Jack in a barbwire deathmatch (which was probably the match best on the DVD), Mike ("Gladiator") Awesome, and Terry Funk... and one of my all time favorite wrestlers Super Leather, who I used to watch way back when I was living in Japan at the time. The DVD also includes a bonus match with TAKA Michinoku that's got some nice little spots.

If you are interested in me reviewing the whole thing let me know, and I'll start work on it (want to see how many people are interested before I bust my ass for nothing.)

My other purchase that day was finally getting Royal Rumble for Dreamcast. It's not bad, but it's far from good. I think it's cool to have that many people get in the ring, but the game was just too "arcade" for my tastes. Like I told my friend, it's like playing NBA 01 without any rules switched on. I like realism. And my biggest complaint was the rooster. I wish they at least got enough guys on there so that there weren't so many repeats when playing the Rumble mode. Granted, I haven't really explored the game that much, but my first impression wasn't that strong. If anyone knows how to unlock more wrestlers let me know (or if there's a good website to go to.) I got to the end ofhte Rumble with Tazz, but had to use Big Show to finally win.

Speaking of: I really hope 2001 is a breakout year for guys like Big Show and Benoit. We shall wait and see.

Till next week... later
