SCREW YOU BISCHOFF & WCW

Welcome to another debuting column here at [slash] wrestling. My name is Nick A. I'm going to be a freshman at George Washington University this fall. I don't have a web page, but I asked CRZ for a chance to vent some anger and he said okay. So here I go:

First some background on myself. I've been a wrestling fan for most of my life, but I don't watch the WWF, WCW, ECW, or any other organization exclusively. I just try to watch what I think will be the best WRESTLING match. I really enjoy guys like the Hardy Boys, Benoit, Malenko, Corino (one of the best heels I've ever seen), and for that matter most of ECW. Sure like everyone else, I enjoy listening to the Rock cut a great promo, and when Austin talks I tend to listen, but for the most part I would love it if the Four Horsemen reformed, wrestling went back to 60 minute time limit draws, and guys would be given titles based on performance and not politics.

This column will focus on Vice-President of WCW (I think that's his title, if not please tell me) Eric Bischoff. It is my belief that Bischoff is slowly destroying a company that should be dominating the wrestling scene in the United States. I believe that Bischoff is (to quote Shane Douglas) "the cancer on WCW". From what I know about the power structure of WCW, Bischoff is at the top, and everyone else is below him. Therefore he is able to dictate the direction of the company, and nowadays that direction is straight into the ground. Besides ruining WCW I think Bischoff also spits on the tradition of wrestling often and has no respect for the guys who made the NWA, WCW, and for that much pro-wrestling.

Onto the column, I didn't order Fully Loaded because I can only watch Austin v. Undertaker so many times before getting physically ill. Does anyone actually think that Vince McMahon will never be on WWF TV again? Anyone think that he won't be on TV before Summerslam?

So instead of watching Austin v. Undertaker chapter 24,601 I decided to watch Arli$$ (HBO's spelling, not mine) to see the WCW "stars" that were on. Featured were Lex Luger, Gorgeous George, Savage (who calls hockey players pussies, nice Savage), Rick Steiner, Tenay, Tony, and Bischoff. One of the episode's subplots had to due with a hockey player who was banned from the NHL for fighting an official. Arli$$ and his associates come up with the idea that the logical step from hockey is pro-wrestling. Arli$$ pitches the hockey player to Bischoff and Squiggy from Laverne & Shirley (I'm not joking). Anyway the hockey player wants his ring name to be "The Enforcer" because when he was playing hockey he was the enforcer for his team. For those of you unfamiliar with hockey, the enforcer is the guy on a team who will fight anyone on the other team if they fuck with his team. Bischoff's response is that "The Enforcer" too weak off a name for a wrestler......... What the fuck!!!! Hey Eric, ever hear of a guy by the name of "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson. Granted that Eric's remark was on a show that has nothing to due with the WCW or the current storylines, but to take a shot like that to a guy that has given everything he has had to WCW and before that the NWA was really uncalled for.

I can't think of a guy who personifies the company man more than Arn Anderson. Lets look back at the things that Arn has done in order to advance the storylines of NWA/WCW, three incidents come to mind:

The first was at Capital Combat 1990. Arn Anderson and the rest of the Four Horsemen were attacking Sting who was locked in a cage when who came out.... Robocop! Fucking Robocop came out to run off the Horsemen and save Sting. Now what did Anderson do, he sold it like a champ. Everyone knew that Arn and the rest of the Horsemen could demolish Robocop in about 5 seconds, but in order to advance the storyline Arn reacted like he had just seen Dusty Rhodes naked, and ran off. Sorry for that mental picture of Dusty.

The second incident was during Anderson's TV Tile reign in 1995, which would be his last title reign before retirement. After holding the TV Title for about 5 months he was forced to drop it to the Renegade. The goddamn Renegade, for those readers who had the pleasure of never seeing the Renegade wrestle, he was a rip off of the Ultimate Warrior but with less wrestling talent. Having to drop the belt must have hurt Arn, but to drop it to the Renegade had to kill Arn. But, did Arn refuse to job, of course not. Arn went out and dropped the title to a guy who couldn't carry Arn's tights. 3 1/2 years later Czar Bischoff shows what an egomaniacal jerk he is by booking himself to get a pin on Ric Flair at WCW's premier PPV event Starrcade. Let's think for a minute, Anderson jobs to Renegade but Bischoff not only wont job, but puts himself over Ric Flair. You go Eric, way to set an example.

And most recently Arn buried probably the largest hatchet in the history of wrestling, when he shook Sid Eudy's hand on Nitro. This is the same Sid who tried to kill Anderson 5 years earlier with a pair of safety scissors (anyone else find that name ironic). But did Arn hold that against Sid, no. When Sid stuck out his hand most other wrestlers would have turned or walked out of the ring. But, Arn shook Sid's hand because he knew that it was best for WCW.

Bischoff has done a lot of fucking horrible things to great wrestlers (Ric Flair jumps to mind), many worse than what happened on Arli$$. But by taking a shot at a man who has given his life to NWA/WCW Bischoff proved how low class he really is.

That's it for my first column, I'm sorry for the poor grammar and lack of any coherence in this column, but hey it is my first time out. Please send me your thoughts and ideas so I can make it better.

From deep in South Florida, I'm
