Mark's Notes on ECW Home Video: Extreme Warfare Vol. 2

  • Commentary by Joey Styles

  • Terry Gordy vs. Bam Bam Bigelow. This is billed as the "Battle of the Bam Bams". I'm not looking to be very impressed here. Bigelow misses a baseball slide and they're on the outside. Back in the ring, Bigelow controls the match. They go back outside. Gordy gets nailed by a chairshot and has to shake it off. Bigelow suplexes him back in. It's way too obvious when they're talking to each other. Samoan drop from Bigelow. Both guys look worn out already. On the outside, Terry hits a few chairshots. Back inside. He tries a fireman's carry but can't lift Bigelow. Hits a bulldog. This would be a better match if either guy would actually TRY. Double clothesline. The Eliminators run in and hit Total Elimination on Gordy. Bam Bam hits a flying headbutt for the win. *3/4

  • Gangstas vs. Public Enemy. Public Enemy was way over in ECW. Alfonso, one of the assigned refs, comes out, leading some huge guy. Teach him not to "make friends" when in jail overnight. Apparently the dude is from Attica state prison, home of the Riots. Alfonso dares 911, the other ref, to take the big guy. The Gangstas make their entrance. Fan hands Grunge a rope and he strangles New Jack. Grunge gets busted open at some point. Grunge and New jack come back to the ring. Grunge hits a version of Air Sabu. This is certainly no fun to watch. Alfonso refuses to count for PE. Rocco sets up a table. Alfonso tries to keep Rocco from smashing New Jack through it, but 911 tosses him out of the way. He then chokeslams the big dude. Rocco comes off the top with a moonsault on New Jack through the table. A new ref comes in but Alfonso stomps him while he's trying to count. The commissioner, Tod "Mole" Gordon yells at Alfonso but gets hit with a chair. A quick rollup by Mustafa and a quick count by Bill equal a win for the Gangstas. Also a "bullshit" chant. Bleh. DUD

  • Chris Jericho vs. Sabu. I hoe this makes up for the last match. This is a very small place to have a wrestling match, to my eyes. Sabu gets a nice pop. Styles keeps playing up Sabu's mat wrestling talents. Heh. Jericho hits a nice slingshot splash. Two kicks send Jericho to the outside. Sabu follows. He flies off a chair, off the ropes, and into the crowd. Now he grabs a table and props it up between guardrail and apron. Chris rolls off the table though. Senton splash from Chris. Air Sabu hits. Arabian Press for two. Sabu really likes the ropes. Jericho with a few near falls. Sabu huracanrana for two. Superplex by Jericho, but he hits his head. On the outside, Sabu places Jericho on the table. He jumps off the ropes, DDT through the table. Jericho ends up underneath the ring but eventually crawls out. Sabu misses flying headscissors. Jericho dropkick. Fisherman's suplex. Triple jump moonsault from Sabu for the win. Maybe a little long, but it got better as it went on. ***

  • Tommy Dreamer vs. Brian Lee (High Incident Scaffold Match). This is a little bit absurd. The idea is to throw your opponent off the scaffold, which is a little plank suspended above the ring. There are twelve tables stacked up in the ring to greet whoever falls. Dreamer attacks Lee on his way to the ring. They fight around the arena, not yet on the scaffold. Dreamer's already busted open. They both head for the swinging scaffold. Dreamer hits a low blow and a DDT. Tommy yells and starts pounding on Brian until he falls off and crashes through the tables. He receives medical attention and is eventually led off on a stretcher while Dreamer walks through the crowd, celebrating. It was short and the last bump was good. *1/2

  • Kimona Stripping. I don't see what I can say. A lot of people got this tape just to see her, and she doesn't disappoint. She doesn't actually show anything though, just dances. But what a way to end the tape.

  • End of tape.

    The Verdict:
Well, good and bad, as is usually the case on compilation tapes like this. I like the Sabu match, and Kimona of course, but the other three matches weren't so good. In any event, I liked it.

    Mildly recommended.
