Mark's Notes on WWF Home Video: Three Faces of Foley

- All matches are clipped

- Mick Foley introduces himself. Matt and Jeff Hardy are sitting nearby. All three are in an arena that is being set up for RAW is WAR. Says Jim Ross brought him to WCW, and then to the WWF. Talks about a series of interviews he did with Ross to help make the Mankind character better understood. Mr. McMahon became a Mankind fan after these interviews.

- Said interviews are shown. Mankind says he got kicked in the mouth at school and liked it. It made him want to be a wrestler, because he could bleed every night, and people would like it. Ross voiceover states that Foley has emotional scars because of his unusual childhood. Mankind says people threw worms at him one day, so he ate one of them. The worms, that is. Didn't get many dates after that. In 1983, he hitchhiked to Madison Square Garden to watch Snuka and Muraco duke it out in a cage. Man, I would love to sit down and run through the WWF's video archive. Snuka comes off the top of the cage with a flying body press. Foley says that changed his life. He made a movie about himself, as a wrestler called Dude Love. This is the famous movie where he jumps off the house and lands on all the mattresses. Talks about the creation of Cactus Jack. Jack was supposed to be temporary, but stayed around for a good long time. Ross suggests Mankind brought all these problems on himself by being weird. Mankind snaps and locks on the Mandible Claw. Back to the arena, Foley talks about how those interviews made him a face, even though they really weren't supposed to. He says Vince eventually saw the video with Dude Love in it, and wanted Foley to wrestle as him.

- Dude Love/Steve Austin vs. Bulldog/Owen from RAW is WAR. I don't remember WHICH RAW, unfortunately, and it doesn't say. This match was great at the time, especially the Dude's entrance. Austin and Foley win the Tag Team titles. He talks about making the TitanTron video for Dude, and how all he did was get out there and be stupid in front of the camera. He figures the video has the market pretty much cornered on stupid. As the video is shown, I'd have to agree. It is really fucking hilarious though.

- He talks about himself and Terry Funk. He and Funk were invited to one of Ric Flair's birthday parties (he gets a subtle shot in on Flair's age). He liked the match between him and Funk on RAW. So...

- Mick Foley vs. Terry Funk from May 4, 1998 RAW is WAR. Stone Cold assists JR on commentary. Pat Patterson (!) is the referee. They fight all around the arena. Through a hot dog stand, moonsault off the guard rail by Funk, piledriver through a table. Any good brawl really defies a synopsis, and this is no exception. So I'll wait for the end: two piledrivers by Foley give him the win. Back to the interviewing, Foley says Vince want to bring back Cactus Jack to wrestle at the MSG RAW is WAR.

- Cactus Jack vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley from September 22, 1997 RAW is WAR. Cactus comes out to a nice pop. A wonderful slobberknocker; I liked this one at the time. Jack bumps all over the arena for Hunter. Chairs, trash cans, stairs, the works. Anything that isn't nailed down and all that. Cactus gets the win, piledriving Hunter through a table. Interviewing, Foley thinks he'll always be remembered for his Hell in a Cell match with the Undertaker. Funk suggested to him that he start the match on top of the cage.

- Mankind vs. Undertaker (Hell in a Cell II) from King of the Ring 1998. I don't guess I need to describe these bumps. Both Hardys listen intently as Mick talks. The first bump dislocated his shoulder and bruised his kidney. The kidney bothered him for ten weeks. Foley sounds like he didn't expect the cage to break on the second bump. A chair dislocated his jaw, and knocked out a tooth, which ended up in his nose. Mankind spreads the thumbtacks, but gets dropped on them, of course. Undertaker gets the win. Foley says it was probably the greatest night of his life. Thanks the viewers for watching.

- End of tape.

The Verdict: Any long time wrestling fan loves Mick Foley, and will enjoy this tape. Anyone who can't see why we all love him, get this tape and see why. No one, NO ONE can just sit back and talk like Foley can, and still be entertaining. I'd listen to him tell stories all freaking day long. Definitely a must-see.
