BLAH

A DAY LATER

Sometimes things do come to those that wait. In this case, a day later.

I waited in vain Sunday night for Arn Anderson to run in and double cross that great superhero Hulk Hogan and rejoin Ric Flair. Alas it didn't happen as Hogan booked himself over two men, Lex Luger and Flair. And millions and millions of fans didn't watch.

So the next night on Nitro, it happened, though not totally in the way I expected. Sid Vicious was basking in glory in staying the WCW world heavyweight champion since Jeff Jarrett didn't want the belt and be associated with bottom feeding ratings. Hogan kept upstaging Sid, interrupting the "press conference" and having the second entrance in the tag team main event. And then showing up Sid during the match. And all along Mark Madden was selling it. And Tony Schiavone was arguing, saying that Hogan was "putting him over" to explain Hogan's barging in to the pseudo press conference.

And then, yes! Sid finally had enough and chokeslammed Hogan, leaving the over-the-hill Hulkster at the mercy of Jarrett and Scott Steiner. That was good enough for me.

Some people have already written that it screws up storylines because Jarrett was pursuing Sid for another title shot. I don't think so. Again, Jarrett doesn't want to be a WCW world champion associated with dismal ratings. The Sid turn works nicely in that mode. Furthermore, you won't see a heel versus heel title match. Besides, the stipulation was met when Sid scored the pinfall over Hogan. Yeah, I know it was his own partner but this is sports entertainment! Suspend your disbelief!

It's nice to see Steiner back but it remains to be seen how long he stays since he loves doing real shoot promos. And who knows? He may start shooting in matches. I'm sure everyone (including young children) saw Steiner flip off Hogan and clearly say "F--- you, Hogan!" He was definitely shooting there. Don't look for Steiner to ever be in any program with Flair. Just read that interview on Wrestleline and you'll see. Steiner can get over big-time without cursing. It's just not necessary.

Chris Candido sure does remind me of Bob Holly. It's nice to see someone with his level of talent join WCW. I just hope they use him properly. But then again, they've got Kanyon on the roster and you know that story. I enjoyed Candido's match with Lash LeRoux. You had good action and a clean win. You don't need run-ins in every match.

And good gosh, Fit Finlay and LaParka had a clean match, too. The karate kid spoof by both was funny. It looks there is an emerging storyline involving LaParka and his mic work as Finlay tossed him a stick after the match.

I really like Vampiro but I don't why they feel he must rip off Raven's gimmick. Vamp is good enough to have his own gimmick.

When I saw David Flair come out and set up a table for himself to be slammed through it occurred to me that poor David has taken too many blows to the head from Wall's arsenal. David must have thought he was Spike Dudley getting ready to face Mike Awesome. Yet that's unfair to compare Awesome to Wall. Sorry, Mike.

David called out Wall to come chokeslam him through another table. I don't know why Daffney even bothered with the fire extinguisher. She had to know full well that Wall was going to no-sell. And that was a NASTY looking bump David took when he went through the table. You could clearly see his head snap back against the table. Ouch. I'll say it again. The Wall hasn't proven anything, not against jobbers and mid-carders. He isn't over. The spots are.

Is it I or did the Harris brothers look really bad against Booker and Kidman. They were so slow that Booker and Kidman couldn't carry them to a decent match. Ron and Don seemed like they were constantly out of position. Booker twice did lousy looking rock bottoms because he had no help from his opponents. Get the belts off the Harris brothers now, WCW.

Poor Vampiro had to attempt to carry Luger. A funny thing happened last night. I was playing a Play Station game last night with my girlfriend's eight-year-old son. I was Scott Hall and he was Luger. He whipped my butt. Yet I said to myself, "Luger doesn't HAVE that many moves!" He did have Flair to run in and the trusty baseball bat. Vampiro still got in some good offense and Sting to make the save after the postmatch beatdown.

Hugh Morrus went over Norman Smiley in yet another clean match. Wow, that is three in one night! Who's doing the booking, anyway? Not Hogan, because he only cares about himself.

I'm still trying to figure out why Dustin Rhodes got DQ'd merely for tearing off Curt Hennig's cast. In other matches, you see run-ins that don't cause a DQ. And to make it worse, Hogan had to get all the heat because he made the save. Remember that he doesn't care about the ratings.

We are being teased of an impending feud between Tank Abbott and Meng. I can only hope Meng will be allowed to no-sell against Abbott. Knowing WCW that is probably wishful thinking.

I was totally stunned when Madden blurted out, "he isn't selling" when Sting was no-selling Ric Flair's chops outside the ring. That's just great, Mark. Tell everyone that wrestling is fake! We don't need a bunch of marks in the arenas. Gosh, that was stupid. But on the other hand, what percentage of fans know what selling means? Still, he shouldn't have done it.

Of course, Luger ran in and of course he didn't get DQ'd because there was no cast to tear off or something like that. Sting's 378th return to WCW came off just great and the fans went home happy. Yeah, right.

I do know that I can count on WCW to keep giving me plenty of material so I can keep on being sarcastic. Yeah!
