WWF THOUGHTS

Make no mistake about it, the WWF knows storylines. The WWF knows how to set up a pay per view. WCW knows, well, what does WCW know? The WWF did more in an a one hour episode of Sunday Night Heat to pave the way for a pay per view than WCW does in a three-hour Nitro. But who didn't know that?

I'm not here to recap the taped Heat that I just watched, that's CRZ's thing. But let's take a look at the angle developments as Fully Loaded is just around the corner. There wasn't a second wasted by the WWF on this show.

They gave a lot of play at the beginning on the first blood match between Steve Austin and the Undertaker for the WWF title at Fully Loaded. Al Isaacs at scoopswrestling made a brief reference last week to the fact that Stone Cold DID NOT sign the contract last Monday. This looks very significant and everything points to a UT victory.

But Stone Cold fans, do not fret! His days of title shots are not going to end. Consider the following scenario. The stips call for Stone Cold to never get a title shot if he loses and Vince to never appear on TV again if the UT loses. Rest easy. Neither will happen. Austin is the WWF's most over wrestler. Vince is the WWF's most over heel. They don't want to mess with success. Austin will drop the strap, probably thanks to a Kane run in.

The following night on RAW, Vince and company will be celebrating their big victory. The party will be interrupted by the sound of breaking glass. Stone Cold will come out and say, "Hey, jackass, I never signed this piece of crap!" And the WWF's fans will all still be happy. Remember, you heard it hear first. If I'm wrong, let me have it.

Now that Jeff Jarrett-Road Dogg match was pretty entertaining. Both these guys can work the mic, though Double J's heat is partially because of Debra. Of course, when RD accidentally KO'd the ref with Jarrett's IC title belt, that allowed the Mr. Ass/Chyna run in. Then Chyna punks RD with the chain and X-Pac makes the save. This keeps the DX vs. DX angle running along nicely. It also sets up RD's challenge to Chyna for a dog pound match on RAW.

How about some mic time for Midian? He wasn't too bad sitting in for guest commentary as Fully Loaded opponent D-Lo tangled with Gangrel. Before the match, D-Lo made a brief mic reference to the semi-shoot bad health angle whereby Mark Henry is on the sidelines trying to lose weight. Midian got his Euro belt the same way David Flair got his US title belt. After that, the similarity ends big time.

That was a nice jumping DDT by Gangrel for the win after he spit the red stuff in D-Lo's face. That opened the way for the Midian-assisted beatdown and Edge save. This moves along the burgeoning Gangrel-Edge feud. The only thing that didn't work in this segment was Edge's missile drop kick barely connecting on Gangrel, who sold it like he got hit by a telephone pole. Well, even the WWF isn't perfect.

They had to show us the countdown to the millennium. No, not that one. The countdown to Chris Jericho's debut. Are they going to call him Millennium? I don't care. I just can't wait until he gets going. He will instantly become the WWF's best mic man. It ought to be fun.

The X-Pac-Bob Holly match and its 987 run ins left me dizzy. Holly is getting better and better on the stick. That was hilarious when he said he wouldn't wrestle X-Pac. That was a nice assault by X-Pac. Even better was that STIFF chairshot by Holly, giving X-Pac the DQ win. But that wasn't all. In comes Kane! Chokeslam on Holly. The Big Show comes out to fight Kane and eats a chairshot from X-Pac. Then the Undertaker starts walking down the ramp. X-Pac gets upset when Kane leaves to join the UT. Chairshot from X-Pac on TBS. TBS chokeslams X-Pac. TBS helps Holly leave the ring. Whew! Let's see. We had developments on the X-Pac/Kane friendship. Could X-Pac turn heel? We see the budding partnership between TBS and Holly. Maybe TBS can make a heel turn. There are all kinds of possibilities here. It will be interesting to see what the WWF does. That was a great segment.

Ken Shamrock challenges Steve Blackman to an "inner circle" at Fully Loaded. Since Blackman has destroyed Shamrock in several attacks, could it be time for the world's most dangerous man to get his revenge?

A lot has already been written on Gov. Jesse Ventura's role at Summer Slam. I think it's great. Let the mainstream politicians whine all they want. I don't care what they think. I just hope Jesse gets some mic time. I remember when he and Vince did WWF Monday night broadcasts together. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY can match Jesse on the mic. His gubernatorial opponents in Minnesota were basically unarmed when Jesse faced them in a three-way debate. Go Jesse!

The WWF showcased, sort of, its tag team division when Prince Albert and Droz beat the Acolytes. The Hardy Boyz and P.S. walked down the ramp and argued with the Godfather and Val Venis when they showed up. I was surprised when there no run ins or post-match brawl.

I have a brief comment on the rewind segment. Jason Arndt as Joey Abs is a good addition to the posse. Shane, Pete Gas and Rodney look like a bunch of wimps. I will not say that about Arndt. That guy is jacked. At least he adds a dose of realism to the Posse's beatdowns. Who would want to sell to the rest of that gang. I will say that Shane us great on the mic and very over as a heel. And for those people criticizing Randy Savage, how about Shane's elbow shot to sister Stephanie's head?

As for the main event, it was another good flowing segment. That was a nice bump TBS took into the post when Chyna saved HHH. The run-ins by Kane and the UT were predictable. That was a nice powerslam by TBS on Kane. For a guy that weighs 500 pounds, Paul Wight can move. He sells good, too. The chairshot by the UT on TBS was nice, too. That precipitated the beatdown to end the show.

Equate this show to a 400 meter relay. Sunday Night Heat just ran a good split and now the baton is handed to RAW for tomorrow night as the finish line to Fully Loaded gets closer. It's hard not to like the WWF.
