THE PEOPLE'S COLUMN

Hey, welcome to the big show (no, not WEEEELLLL IT'S THE BIG SHOW) we all know and love as The People's Column numero tres. My name is still Andy and that's that. On deck this week... I Get Letters Too (for real!), the first two official entries into The People's Hall of Fame, Raw vs Nitro, and my baseball thoughts of the week. Let's get going.

"I Get Letters Too"

Look ma, I got my first three letters! First of all, my apoligies to anyone who I didn't reply to within a few days after they e-mailed me last week. I had a family death on Thursday so that has pretty much cut down on me doing anything on the Internet. I won't be as slow answering next time (I hope)! Y'all don't forget to send some e-mail to your other columnists; they spend their time trying to entertain you so let them know how they are doing! On to my letters...

Letter #1:

I read the new People's Column, and for the most part I agree with you, especially on the Fink part. He's been there for as long as I've been watching wrestling, which is around 15 years. He deserves to be in the hall of fame for all the work he's done. The only thing I didn't agree with was the Brood thing. I like the music and all, but Edge and Christian, IMHO, need to change their gimmick a little and get some more mike time to build a larger fan base and get over more. They, along with the Hardyz, can put on some damn good matches if given the time to do it. I would rather watch them than HHH and the Texas Rattlesnake, which is a good nickname because I think given the chance he could induce death, not by poison or anything, just boring you to death, Stone Cold Steve Austin. I don't know how many times I've watched him and thought either A: I wish someone would beat me senseless, so maybe I would be amused by him or B: why doesn't he grow his hair back out and be an asshole again? I've always had a soft spot for Stunning Steve. Hmm, at this rate, maybe I should start writing for CRZ..... Well, I guess this is enough for now.

TJ

TJ, thanks for being the first person to give me some feedback. You rock. I'm split on the whole Brood thing I talked about last week, Edge and Christian don't seem to be getting anywhere besides fighting the Hardys (which isn't bad) alone, but then again they didn't make it much farther with Gangrel either. The Brood entrance was awesome. That's it, maybe I just want to see a Brood come up from the ring of fire with the actual Brood music. Is that too much to ask for? I agree with your opinions on SCSA, he gives some OK interviews but I'm tired of his same ol' matches weekly (or twice weekly now I guess). I can handle HHH, maybe it's just that I like Chyna. Well, thanks for writing and come back again!

Letter #2:

You probably didn't read my column a couple of days ago, because apparantly NOBODY does, since none of us columnists EVER get mail. What was I saying? Oh ya. In case you missed it, here's a passage from my No Mercy report:

Mets rally, leading up to a Robin Ventura Grand Slam to end the 15th, 7-3. PLEASE beat Atlanta. I HATE Atlanta. Did you hear why the last Olympics were in Atlanta in '96? Because the Coca-Cola Co. said that if they didn't do it there, they wouldn't sponser it. So in essence, they bought the fucking Olympics. And that was right after Athens, Greece built a multi-million dollar stadium because they were supposed to get it that year, since it was the 100th Olympiad. So go to Hell, Atlanta.

Oh ya, I've been a Yankees fan since I was born. I had to watch them through the 80's (yuck) so you now have to deal with them in the 90's. Oh ya, not a bad column either.

Chuck Carlin

Thanks for writing Chuck. Actually, I did read your column and it was pretty cool. Those of you reading... go read Chuck's work immediately! Well, read this column and then go do it. Looks like [slash] is in for the big Braves-Yankees feud here. You hate Atlanta and I hate the Yankees... wowsers. I've been a Braves fan since I was born (I guess, I didn't really watch baseball back then but you get the picture). I haven't rooted for any other team like I have the Braves, I guess that's a better way to put it. The Braves weren't all that great in the 80's either, but then again there was a lot that wasn't all that great in the 80's. I don't know the story behind the Olympics being in Atlanta because of Coke, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me a bit. But hey... have a Coke and smile. I'm hoping the Braves can win the Series this time (even though game one and game two weren't exactly what I was looking for). Thanks for writing (even if you are a Yankees fan... ugh), keep up with the columns, and come back next time.

And that reminds me... what the heck was up with Mankind on Conan O'Brien? Putting Mr. Socko on Conan's version of John Rocker? Geez, Rocker can't get any respect from New York people. Then again, most New York people can't get any respect from Rocker either.

Letter #3:

I like HHH. I have for a while. The WWF just needs to get Austin out of the picture for a while. Have him work some Indy shows. Maybe go to the Funkin' Dojo. Repackage him. Record some interviews to get his new gimmick over as a heel. Meanwhile, HHH destroys everyone in his path. Cleanly. Then, in a few months, have Austin start running in and helping HHH win. They form an alliance, and Austin is sooo evil and soooo much of an asshole that when heturns on HHH, the crowd automatically cheers HHH in the eventual confrontation at Wrestlemania which, just to throw everyone for a loop, is a solid technical match with a clean pinfall at around the 45 minute point after the pedigree. The next night on Raw, Austin is livid, and demands are match, which he gets. After a brutal 30 minute match, Austin cheats and gets the belt. He manages to hold on to the belt after facing Mankind and the Rock at the next 2 minor PPVs. Then, at the next major PPV, which I believe is King of the Ring, if I remember the schedule right, HHH beats Austin within an inch of his life, but fails to capture the title as Austin hits a Stun Gun to put him away after a wicked chair shot. Austin fends off opponents for the next couple of months, then HHH reclaims the title at Summerslam. Austin gets it back at Survivor Series, and at the December PPV, HHH loses in his final title match with Austin, as per the stipulation Austin forced HHH to agree to. HHH wins the Royal Rumble after starting out and staying in for an hour and a half, breaking alll records. In the end, he is beaten and bloody in the middle of the ring. Austin comes out and beats HHH down to build even more heat for the Wrestlemania match. At the Feb PPV, HHH wrestles Mankind in a Hell in the Cell which sees HHH thrown from the top through a table followed by a Snuka splash from Makind from the top to the floor, while Austin takes on X-Pac, who by this time is realigned with HHH, and beats him damn near to death. HHH barely wins, while Austin demolishes X-Pac to get some heel heat. In the Wrestlemania blowoff match,HHH beats Austin at the one hour five minute mark in yet another clean, technical match with a figure four. Then, the fans go home happy after seeing the end to the second or third best planned and executed fued of all time, the only ones better being Flair-Steamboat and Flair-Funk from 1990. But, that won't happen. Maybe if I somehow manage to become head booker forWWF, then it will, but I doubt that. Too bad we get Austin pretty much repeating himself week after week. Well, I guess that's enough for now .Sorry to bore you if I have.

TJ

Whoa. That's one big, long paragraph. Sounds like a good storyline to me, and it looks like X-Pac realigning with HHH happened right after you e-mailed me. The only thing that wouldn't work nowadays is the long matches, I don't think most fans have an attention span for those hour long matches anymore. You know today's fans... that "boring" chant will be going within twenty minutes max.

Well, time to close up the mailbag this week. Feel free to e-mail me and I'll e-mail you back and you can be right here and share your opinions with the millions (and millions) of [slash] readers.

Raw and Nitro Thoughts

Honestly, I didn't sit and watch all three hours of the shows (or five together I guess) as I had to go to a funeral earlier in the day and I was worn out. I did see most of both shows though and maybe I just wasn't in the mood. I did enjoy The Outsiders match. I definately enjoyed Torrie's outfit. Norman Smiley is becoming a joy to watch again now that he is FINALLY being pushed. WCW should have filled in Madusa's mystery opponent in the tournament as Jeff Jarrett... DUH. I think the monster Meng is awesome, but that fits in with no storylines at all. And where's Barbarian?

Raw was lacking, or maybe it was just me. I didn't see the DX reunion so I'll hold my opinions on that. Maybe X-Pac will learn a new move that doesn't involve kicking or throwing his crotch in another guy's face. Where was Harold when the Acolytes went bar hoppin', and is this related at all to Kevin Nash (followed by Mike Tenay) going from bar to bar searching for Scott Hall last year? And that's about all I have for you.

The People's Hall of Fame

That's right, the Hall of Fame has arrived. The people in this HOF aren't necessarily the biggest stars like Austin, but those who entertain us. Harold Finkel is our first entry thanks to last week.

This week's entry... Nor-man Smi-LEY. Norman was a hoot (a hoot?) in his hardcore match last week, and this week went OK too. Plus... he does the Big Wiggle and it's so over!

Do you have anyone you think should be added to the People's Hall of Fame? I'll be adding a new member every week!

The Baseball Stuff

Hopefully the Braves can pull it out tonight so we aren't totally in the hole against the (ugh) Yankees. And yes... Jim Grey shouldn't be a journalist. If his interview with Pete Rose was anywhere else, it would be acceptable. Not right after Pete was honored for the All-Century Team though! Sure, ask him once. After Pete says he doesn't want to talk about it, drop the subject! Instead, Jimmy keeps on with the same topic.

That's all for this week. Don't forget to send me and your other [slash] columnists some feedback so we know where we went wrong and where we went right. GO BRAVES! And also GO BULLDOGS! Gator stompin' time is here!
