THE PEOPLE'S COLUMN

Hello. My name is Andy and this is my column.

First off, I'm going to go ahead and beg for forgiveness now. This week's column isn't its usually greatness (depending on your definition of 'greatness'). Along with writing for [slash] when I can, I'm also on the staff of my college's newspaper, the Mariners' Log. I have at least three articles I'm trying to write for the upcoming issue, and I just finished spending four hours in the college library working on one of them. So that's why. Hey, at least I wrote this week's This Week in Wrestling before the night I plan on e-mailing it to CRZ!

Last week in History I gave you a little bit of a movie review. This time, I have a CD you need to go out and purchase immediately if not sooner. Check out Widespread Panic's "Til the Medicine Takes." I was actually introduced to Widespread Panic by one of my teachers last year back at Brunswick High (she's in her mid to late twenties, it's not like she's introducing me to something TOO old!). I have to admit, I like it. Explaining it is a different story. I guess it's mainly rock. Anyway, the cover is not hard to miss... it's a tie-dye bird flying on a very shiny holographic background. It sticks out. Check 'em out!

WWF vs WCW:

WWF: Jericho vs Rikishi on Raw was like a dream match for me. My two favorite singles wrestlers going at it. Coolness. ... The Miss Royal Rumble competition is obviously a smart thing for the WWF to due. What better way to get the target teen audience to order a PPV than have five women with good bodies showing them off? And the best way to get the target audience NOT to order it is to put Mae Young in this. Oh well. ... Even though I'm not really a fan of his, it's good to hear that Stone Cold's surgery was a success. He does add a certain excitement element to every Raw ... For those of you wanting my Rumble predictions: Jericho over Holly and Chyna, HHH over Cactus Jack (he'll win at WrestleMania), Acolytes over Outlaws, Terri in the Miss Rumble thing (like it matters who wins), and The Rock in the Rumble ... I think I've figured out the whole Tazz thing (I hate that second 'z'... it's like Russo spelled it or something). You know how that number 13 is in his little preview things? Maybe a #13 spot in the Rumble? Huh? Huh? Well, huh?

WCW: First, the obvious. WCW continues to sink straight down into Underground Atlanta. Benoit wins the title, and is gone the next night. The whole Revolution (minus The Wall I guess)... gone. And who else reportedly wants to be gone? Kidman, Ron Misterio Jr., Konnan (OK, he can go)... the list goes on and it just gets worse. Could be interesting ... And so Russo is gone as head writer now? I did notice the absence of Crash TV on Nitro ... Not to mention the absense of our cruiserweight champ Oklahoma. I'll take Madusa over Oklahoma as cruiserweight champ anyday. If nothing else, we get a look at Spice ... Scoops is reporting that a Nitro Girl was fired along with all of the releasing. Hope it wasn't Chae. But if it was... WWF, SIGN CHAE IMMEDIATELY! ... I'm diggin' Screamin' Norman and THEMONSTERMENG together. Then again, isn't it sad when two of my favorites in WCW are Screamin' Norman and THEMONSTERMENG? I like Ernest Miller too. He's fun to listen to and the man can dance. ... I admit it, I did get a little bit of a kick out of Mike Tenay badmouthing Three Count on Nitro. The comment about him taking New Wave over the boy bands pretty much echoed me. I've really gotten into New Wave music lately, which is sad really considering everything else out there. Then again...

By the way, in the case that Benoit, Saturn, Douglas, Malenko, and whomever else end up staying after all... hey, I wrote this on Tuesday night before anything major was announced.

INSERT MAIN TOPIC HERE

Well, this is usually where I go into detail on some major occurance. Hmmmm... I have nothing to say at this time.

I know, I'll talk about ScoopThis! version eighty. I like it so far as long as they stay wrestling-themed and don't report on Britney Spears having a period anymore. The addition of Hyatte will definitely help.

THE PEOPLE'S HALL OF FAME

Nobody gets a HOF plaque this week.

BLATANT PLUGS

If you missed the plug in my Slammys '96 review, check out Lilian Garcia's website at LilianGarcia.com. Turns out that her day job is as a pop star.

As usual, this second plug goes to my very own website, Andy Online 2000 - The People's Website. The link is probably down there at the bottom somewhere. My [slash] column archives are there, plus you can read past recaps I've written (I've slacked off big time lately), do this, do that, and so on. You can even find a link to that Mariners' Log newspaper I write for.

E-mail begging of the week... please?

Well, that's your People's Column for this week. This week, I leave you with a simple question... do AM radios work after noon?
