THIS WEEK IN WRESTLING HISTORY - 1.12.0 to 1.18.0

That's right, your weekly dose of history is actually up for the second week in a row! It's the record for the millennium!

I don't have much to blabber about today. That might be good or that might be bad. But hey... history, buddy!

1.12:
Birthdays - Look, there's vampire toothmarks in that cake! It's Luna's birthday.

1998 - The Outsiders regained the WCW tag belts from the Einsteiners. I'm guessing this was on Nitro.

1.13:
1998 - The man we all love to hate Eric Bischoff was promoted to president of WCW and Nick Lambros was promoted to executive VP. And a few years later, Lambros has resigned his post to accept an executive position with Turner Sports and Bischoff... well, whatever happened to that guy?

1993 - WCW held it's big Clash of the Champions (this would be XXII) in Milwaukee. The main event was a no-DQ Thundercage match, with Sting, Dustin Rhodes & Cactus Jack defeating Paul Orndorff, Barry Windham, and Vader. Also on the card... Unified tag champions Rick Steamboat & Shane Douglas against the Hollywood Blonds, The Wrecking Crew against Johnny Gunn & Tom Zenk, and an arm-wrestling contest between Vinnie Vegas and Tony Atlas.

1.14:
Birthdays - HOOOOOOO! It's Hacksaw Jim Duggan's birthday! HOOOOOOOO!

1.15:
1989 - The WWF's Royal Rumble was live (or on Coliseum Home Video) from Houston's Summit. The big Rumble was won by Big John Stuff. Forget that though... THEMONSTERHAKU successfully defending his King's Crown against Harley Race and Rockin' Robin successfully defending her Women's title against Judy Martin.

1.16:
Birthdays - The hardcore legend (well, one of many apparently) Abdullah the Butcher gets himself a birthday cake for his 59th (if my math is right) birthday.

1992 - Bobby Eaton and Arn Anderson won the WCW World tag team titles (not the U.S. tag team titles or the six man titles... whatever happened to THOSE?) from Dustin Rhodes & Ricky Steamboat.

1.17:
1994 - The Quebecers (with the coolest theme song of all time - tied with the Mountie... which is basically the same song) regained the tag titles from the 1-2-3 Kid and Marty Jannetty. For some reason, I remember somebody giving live reports from MSG to the live Raw, which was nearby (I think).

1992 - Do all titles change before the Royal Rumble on the 17th? Two days before the Royal Rumble, The Mountie (the holder of the all-time coolest theme song) won the I-C title by defeating a sick Bret Hart.

1991 - The WWF's not the only one with January 17th title changes! Over in Japan, Vader won the IWGP Heavyweight title from Tatsumi Fujinami.

1.18:
1998 - The WWF's annual Royal Rumble was live (or on WWF Home Video) from San Jose, CA. Stone Cold won the Rumble and the #1 contendership, but the big (and cool) match was Shawn Michaels successfully defending the WWF Title in a casket match against the Undertaker. That would be the match that would hurt HBK enough that he hasn't been the same since. On the undercard... Vader vs the Artist Formerly Known as Pr... Goldust and a six man tag with Max Mini (or Mini Max), Nova, and Mosaic against Tatantula, Battalion, and El Torito.

1971 - Way back in the day, Ivan Koloff won the WWF World title by defeating Bruno Sammartino.

Hey, if you actually are reading this, you get a bonus this week... I'm recommending a video! First off, the movie would be "Wild Things." For those of you who haven't already noticed either by a past People's Column or by my wondermous website, I have a big thing for Neve Campbell. Well, now I have a thing for Denise Richards too. If nothing else, there's a nice segment with Denise Richards' Nipples (hey, isn't that a column here on [slash]?). And hey, there's a nice little kiss between Neve and Denise. OK, besides all the stuff us guys watch the movie for, the plot is pretty darn good. I won't go into that though... this is a wrestling column. So go out and rent "Wild Things" and see Denise Richards' dirty pillows. The hate mail comes flowing in...

Until next week, feel free to send me nice e-mail (or hate e-mail for being a perv and enjoying "Wild Things"). Until then... everybody have fun tonight.

And everybody Wang Chung tonight.
