EVEN BETTER THAN THE REAL THING
mdb books Nitro

Standard disclaimer 1: Fantasy booking is easier than actual booking. I completely understand this. In reworking Nitro I try to remain aware of the realities of pro wrestling in general and WCW in particular. That means not putting the World heavyweight title on La Parka, as fun as that would be. I try to use the same wrestlers WCW used on their actual broadcast. The few exceptions are made in cases where it seems obvious to me that the people are available and capable of the role I put them in.

Standard disclaimer 2: Until WCW starts paying me to do this, I can't bother with spit and polish. I put about two hours into this. 15 minutes into setting up the matches and the rest typing out the scenes off the top of my head as I go along. Please ignore spelling errors, words without proper capitalization, etc.

All comments good and bad are welcome.

Match One: Lane & Idol vs. 3 Count - Show opens with a number one contenders match for the tag titles. Three Count start with the dancing and the syncing. Lane and Idol interrupt on the mic: 'Whoa, cut that noise off. That's awful. You'd never hear music that bad in the clubs in L.A.' Match starts, they trade high spots. I suppose Miss Handcock can come out and dance or whatever though I really don't see a point to the whole thing. I'd just go ahead and pair her with Buff or Flair and get it over with (I don't do it here because since I'm booking week to week and not doing a continuos fantasy booking I can't build long term or set such things up and if I started I'd just be at square one next week). With the history and gimmicks of Three Count Miss Handcock would make a good distraction. Let's say Three Count is in the corner near the announcers table. Evan dances with Handcock, Shane leaves the corner to join the dance so Shannon can't get the hot tag and Lane and Idol win the match.

As Lane and Idol celebrate winning the #1 contendership the Harris brothers hit the ring and destroy them. H-bombs for members of Three Count as well. Jarrett's out as well, Evan whipped to Jarrett who hits the guitar shot on him (Hey, if Evan goes out with concussion, big deal.) Harris on the mic 'Lane and Idol #1 contenders? Mamalukes are the tag champs? WCW is pathetic. We're the nWo, we're the elite, and those belts are going to be ours.' Jarrett: 'Sid Vicious, WCW world slapnut champion, at Uncensored I'm taking my belt. I'm sick of being screwed around here. WCW booked me tonight to defend the US title against Booker and gave Ric Flair a match for the world title. I don't know why WCW is trying to delay the inevitable. They should just go ahead and have Sid come out and present me, the Chosen One, with the World title. But it's ok. Tonight, Booker, you're next on my hit list, you'll be the next victim, the next one to feel my stroke. Sid Vicious or Ric Flair, it doesn't matter who wins tonight, I'll be the champ after Uncensored.'

In the back we can get some shots of Kidman and Dustin walking since they are next!

Lex and Flair do the arriving thing. 'Tonight's the night!' says Flair.

Match Two: Hennig vs. Dustin - Dustin out first. He can run down the Ganges and the Flairs and the Hennigs which of course brings out Curt. Curt's the easy babyface which helps Dustin be the heel. Dustin can get the pin since he needs the push and Curt isn't much of a player anymore. Dustin starts to beat up Hennig post match. Depending on where you take Dustin and Hennig: Either let Hennig make a comeback during the post match attack, clearing Dustin out of the ring to get the hometown pop and Dustin can just leave since he's won the match and there's nothing more to be gained. I don't know where Funk was, since he'd be the one to do a run-in. If Hennig is going to be around and healthy and full time I might bring in Flair to do the save as I'll have him do later tonight with someone else.

Vampiro in the back. 'Someone has a twisted sense of humor. Tonight I wrestle the Maestro. It might surprise you to know I like classical music. But I wonder how much the Maestro like punk music.' Slightly evil laugh.

Sid arrives with the world belt. Big match tonight!

Match Three: Maestro vs. Vampiro - Maestro gets to the ring and conducts his entrance music. He's shocked and dismayed when the beautiful music he's conducting switches to Vampiro's (old and much cooler) theme. Basic match. Vamp flirts with Symphony on occasion who may or may not respond depending on whether or not anything's going to be made of that whole deal last week where Maestro clotheslined her. Anyway it's pretty much a time killer match designed to give Vamp a win. I appreciate the 'push' of WCW having him wrestle Jarrett for the title and it was a good enough match, but if he's not going to get the belt and just win by DQ I don't see much point. I'd as soon just give him a win here and the TV title this Saturday.

Smiley and Miller do the walking/warmup thing.

Lex and Ric see Kidcam catching Buff hitting on Liz. I guess. Personally I wouldn't even bother with these types of gimmicks (like Kidcam) but I'm trying to play along with WCW instead of trying to just do my own whole complete show since I saw where that got Russo. I mean, I probably wouldn't even have half these people on the show let alone holding belts and stuff if I were doing my own show.

Match four - Smiley vs. Miller: Don't ask me what the point of Miller being a heel again is after the big face send up. Unless WCW can get James Brown to show up at every event, the whole thing just doesn't work. Hey, what's MasterP doing these days? Just kidding. I'm sure these two have fought and danced and whatever before but they can do it again. Miller can get the win since Smiley has the injury to excuse the job. (Smiley dominates the match though.) After the pin Smiley can break up Miller's dance and do his own wiggle. (I remember when practically no one danced to get over.)

In the back, Sid has been laid out! What happened? Keep watching (reading)!

We come back from break and see Sid receiving medical attention. Are those the remains of a guitar laying all around?

Ric comes out to do his 'don't switch to Raw' speech. He's with Lex and Liz and flair can basically be Flair. He's going to be world champ tonight for the 15th time and he'll take the world belt out of the frozen wasteland of Minnesota to the much better land of North Carolina for Nitro next week. Flair knows how to do a heel interview and hype a show so we all know what to expect. Luger can talk about Sting and Buff and whatever else, just keep it short.

In the back the Harris boys bring Jeff a guitar. Somewhere else, Booker warms up because walking is so overdone. Maybe a short one minute speech to talk about getting the US belt and moving on from Harlem Heat.

915
Match five - Jarrett vs. Booker: Jarrett to the ring. On the mic 'I know they had Sid scheduled for an interview right now. Don't worry I've taking care of that and spared you all. No get that loser Booker out here and let's get this over with.' Booker comes out. Big face advantage to start, heel cheats to take over. New Harlem Heat come out to imply trouble. Referee gets distracted in separating Booker and Harlem Heat Inc. Sid comes in and powerbombs Jeff to retaliate for the guitar shot. Sid goes and starts to fight off Harlem Heat, directing Booker to get the pin. 1,2,3, new US champ!

Gene interviews Knobs and Fit. What is fit doing back with Knobs? 'Gene, a marshmallow like yourself wouldn't understand. You think Knobs tried to stab me in the back? Well you're right that's just what he did. But that was to prove to me that he'd learned what I was teaching him. I taught him how to be hardcore. I taught him how to attack without conscious. When he stabbed me in the back, he was proving to me that he knew what it takes to be successful in this business. He was also making sure I didn't go soft. He was helping me stay tough. And look at him now, the Hardcore champ.' Knobs: 'That's right. Tonight I'm going to defend the belt against Tank Abbott. Toughest man from UFC. That's nothing. We're going to get nasty tonight.'

Match six - Lex v Buff: I remember like 2 years ago these guys worked a month long program that would have been a great chance to elevate Buff but instead he got DQ wins for three works and squashed at Starcade. Oh well. Buff can win though he hasn't done a thing to impress me in over a year since Lex hasn't done anything to impress me in over, well, ever. Lex goes to break Buff's arm after the job but Ric stops him. What's going on? Keep watching!

Tank shadowboxes. He goes after the hardcore belt next!

945
Jeff and the Harris Bros leave the arena. It's ok. On Thunder they'll start the revenge leading to the ultimate victory at Uncensored.

Mamaluke interview. They ain't worried about the Harris boys. Come Uncensored, a Sicilian Death Match! Or something.

Match seven - Knobs vs. Tank: Knobs gets Koed. Fit tries to interfere but can't get the better of Tank. If Tank is ready to take chair shots, have some here, he'll need to start learning if he doesn't. We all know that Tank isn't much of a wrestler. Let him do as much as he's able before getting the pin. New Hardcore champ!

Sid interview in the back. Medical advice is to not wrestle, but he'll take on Flair.

955
Main event - Ric vs. Sid: We know this drill. Cut to the end. Lex is out to cause trouble. Booker comes out to repay the favor from earlier. Match breaks down. Pier four brawl. Buff comes out to join Lex and Ric to gain the advantage. Sting comes out to make the show closing save.

Where to go from here: First, I don't get the Tank job WCW had on their show at all. There was no build for the world title match. Nothing really gained for Sid, nothing really gained by Tank. I've got no complaints about world champs getting clean wins in main events, but this just did so little. Now there's plenty of ways to go over the coming weeks of this loss and I really hope WCW had a reason for just throwing this match out there but you'll understand why I'm not optimistic. We'll see. I'd give Tank the Hardcore belt and let him beat up a bunch of people for another month or two before setting anything like a world title Nitro main event match for him.

WCW had 3 Count win the Hardcore title. Just like them to copy WWF's stupid ideas. While I applaud Knobs losing the belt Bam Bam shouldn't have lost it in the first place and I'd rather see Helms or Moore win the cruiser belt from Prince.

Buff gets to be the third of the new Four Horsemen. Hennig could be part of the group depending on all factors (I could easily explain away the old feud and Horsemen stuff and why he'd be a Horseman these days) I wouldn't really want Hennig in it but Buff definitely has the look and charisma and ability to be at least a decent Horseman. He's better than Paul Roma even in his current state, he's better as a heel, you could believe he and Ric go out and party all night.

Booker gets the US title so maybe he can get back on track after the booking he's had lately. I'd like to have given him the belt clean, but with Jeff in the PPV main event the screwjob is unavoidable. Jarrett gets to ignore the loss since he's after the world belt. It adds a level of insult to the feud with Sid. Sid cost him the belt now Jeff needs to avenge it by taking Sid's belt. You also get easy to set up matches that put Booker in a main event spot like he deserves. I'd like to see Luger do some jobs to Booker along the way.

We also got some three man team wars to pursue. For example next Nitro you can have Flair, Luger, and Buff vs. Sting, Booker, Sid. You can have Jeff and the Harrisses crash and a three man three way war erupts.
