MURMURINGS

Geez, it's been almost a month since I last wrote anything, but I never promised that I would be writing each and every week. I admit I was too lazy to write during the last week of June, and with the passing of my grandmother last week, obviously I wasn't in the mood to discuss wrestling much. But I hope to be able to write every week from now until my college classes start up again next month. After that... Well, we'll wait until then to see...

I admit that I enjoyed the antics of DX on this week's Raw, even if I knew they were part of a trick to get revenge on Chris Jericho. (No, I wasn't fooled by the D-Generates at all; the WWF thinks DX is still cool, remember? And because of that, DX will continue to live on, even if the majority of people are sick of them. More on that in a minute, though.) It was the best stuff I've seen X-Pac do all year; he got lots of TV time, and finally got to talk some, so that's great! He even got through a match without hearing an "X-Pac Sucks" chant, even if it was only because he was wrestling HHH, who is even more "hated" than he currently is.

I've been reading on the news/rumor boards that the WWF creative team is supposedly thinking of new ideas/angles for X-Pac and Road Dogg. Thankfully, one thing they may be considering is splitting up DX. I say, GO FOR IT!! There are still a few die-hard DX fans out there, but I think a lot of people are sick of the gimmic, and the WWF needs to let it die out and come up with something new for the DX boys to do.

There's another gimmic that's irritated me lately, and it's the one that belongs to Too Cool. I could take them or leave them as far as their wrestling ability goes, but the 1990s hip-hop thing is LAME, as is the dancing, their clothes and The Worm. (I swear, that move is right up there with the 'Ho Train as one of the stupidest moves ever.) Why these guys are so over with many of the WWF's fans is beyond me.

I've been impressed with Trish Stratus and Lita as of late. Lita has been just awesome, and while a lot of gals think of Stratus as only another blonde bimbo, she takes good bumps and has improved greatly as far as mike skills and charisma go since her debut last March. I'm glad to see Ivory and Jackie back on TV and in action as well. They're not as good as Chyna when it comes to wrestling men, but they've held their own against Dean Malenko so far.

I like how the WWF is pushing Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho by feuding them against the main-eventers. It's something different and refreshing, plus all three of them deserve it. Something that is not different is The Rock as champ. I understand that The Undertaker is not ready to hold the gold yet, and the WWF wants to revamp Kane before they push him as a main-eventer, but I'm growing more and more sick of The Rock by the week. But I don't wish to see HHH with the belt again for a while, either, though since I read an interview with him in the current RAW Magazine my respect for him has shot up greatly.

I'm okay with Edge and Christian as tag team champs, but the Dudleys and the Hardys are more deserving of those belts at the moment. Not a Val Venis fan, but I'll take him as Intercontinental champ over the overhyped Rikishi.

Major props to Tori and Hardcore Holly; Tori for going through with the table bump at the King of the Ring PPV despite having a separated shoulder, and Holly for finishing his SmackDown match against Kurt Angle even though he had broke his arm during the match. Takes a lot of bravery and guts to do what these two did.

I didn't bother with the KOTR, and from what I read about it I'm glad I didn't. It didn't take a genius to guess that Kurt Angle would win the King title.

What do you guys think of the new WWF.com? I prefered the old design; the new one takes too much time to load at times. I like the new Superstars section, though.

I can't picture Raw on The Nashville Network (TNN), even if the network plans on revamping itself. I may think differently when September comes, but right now I think the move will be a bad one for the WWF. I hope ECW can find a new home after their run on TNN ends in September; I only get the TNN program, so I'll miss watching them if a deal with another network can't be worked out.

I definitely won't be seeing Sunday Night Heat after October, since my cable company doesn't carry MTV. Shame, too, since the show's been very good as of late.

I am estatic that Booker T. is the new WCW champ. He is one of WCW's best wrestlers, and he deserves it. I don't know what to make of the Hogan/Russo/Bischoff happenings at Bash at the Beach, but I will say this: There are a few "older" guys who are still entertaining (Ric Flair, Sting, Scott Hall, etc.) but guys like Hogan and Nash, who are more or less in it for themselves and NOT for the best interest of the company, need to step aside, retire and let WCW build up its younger talent. WCW can not grow and improve if they continue to focus on the "almighty" Hogan and others like him.

Wow, looks like I had a lot to say, didn't I? Hopefully I'll be back next week with another edition of this column. Take care and be good to one another.
