The Long and Short of the WWF

Hi everyone! This is my first column, and I'd appreciate any and all feedback from you. Drop me a line at jlongtmp@hotmail.com and let me know what you want to talk about. Now, on with the tripe.

Two quick Nitro notes. One, how goddam stupid does Bischoff think the fans are? I'm talking about Sting calling out Goldberg to be his tag team partner. To paraphrase, "So Goldberg, I'm gonna be back out here at the top of the hour, at 9 sharp, to get your answer." What the hell, why didn't he just say, "Make sure you don't turn on Raw so you can hear Goldberg say OK."? Pretty pathetic attempt at generating interest. Second, I'm willing to bet serious money that Walker: Texas Ranger's ending credits gets higher ratings than Nitro's 3 hour composite. Anyway...

I want to take a quick look at the talent in the division title races of the WWF. So...

WOMEN'S DIVISION:

I'm still trying to figure out if the WWF is serious about this.

HARDCORE DIVISION:

Some matches would be nice...Seriously, they have enough talent in Al Snow, Hardcore Holly, and a few others to have some decent matches. The jury's still out on Bossman. Problem is, the hardcore matches are always a crapshoot as far as quality goes.

EUROPEAN DIVISION:

This can be a perfect way to give their new, as well as stagnating, talent a springboard to the upper ranks. I'm glad to see D'Lo get it, since he adds some credibility and spotlight to the belt. BUT, they need to take the belt off him quick. I'm not a big fan of anyone holding more than one belt at a given time, since it usually ties up the "lesser" title unnecessarily. They should pass this belt off onto any one of a number of guys, including Meat or Chaz.

IC DIVISION:

Things are stretched a little thin here. It's seems as though the bulk of non-tag team talent is either tied up in the World Heavyweight division, or not quite upper-mid-card enough to really be a credible champion. They finally took the belt off Jarrett...he's got skillz, but just no heat without Debra. D'Lo will be a quality champion, they just need to make sure he sees some work against guys like Test and King Ass. This is DEFINATELY where they should start Jericho. Give him a run at the Euro title, and the whole situation would be pathetically anti-climactic. Have him chase the Heavyweight belt too fast, and he'll burn out.

TAG TEAM DIVISION:

Things are looking sweet in the tag division right now. I like the Acolytes as champions, as long as they don't start any of that goofy Ministry shit again. Val Venis and The Godfather make a great team, entertaining gimmicks and some really good chemistry. Droz and Prince Albert and starting to grow on me, too...they have potential. Of course the Hardyz are phenomenal, their match on Heat was proof positive. It's a good thing they took the belts off of them, though, it's too soon for them to have the titles, too much of a risk of burnout. I really hope that TBS and UT aren't going to be a long-term team...They're too good in singles work to be tagging. Kane and X-Pac should shape up to be a good team, as well. Kane has been impressing the hell out of me as of late. It'll be interesting to see if Edge and Christian start working in this division together.

HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION:

More talent than Hogan's crippled, burned-out, egotistical ass can shake a crutch at. No sense rehashing the same old shit on the same guys, other than the fact that the Rock puts on the absolute best segments. Anyway, plenty of talent to go around, and I would like to see the belt on HHH. HHH and any of the top talent could have some great matches.

RANDOM MUSINGS AND GENERAL BULLSHIT:

Nice cheap shot by Shane-o-Mac on "dubbya-cee-dubbya" on Raw. Undertaker needs to drop a few pounds. Test is getting some decent face heat. Who had the brainfart to bring Mabel back? Don't forget to feed your parakeets before Raw starts, or they'll squawk for two hours. I'm still wondering how Vince is going to get out of the stip from Fully Loaded so he can show up at SummerSlam and get pasted by Ventura. Anyone else feel bad for Michael Cole, getting abused EVERY time he tries to conduct an interview? Entertaining commercial for WWF.com. I really hate when they show that Castrol commercial with the engine block cracking, it happened to my car and it SUCKS. And yes I changed the oil every 3000, damn thing had a leak. What did that Coke machine every do to HHH? He almost hit himself with that oil drum. Test actually does look at a lot like a blond Nash...except he isn't brushing off his nose on the way out to the ring. I'd laugh my ballz off if the "Countdown to the Millenium" ends up being something or someone besides Jericho. Serious heat for Shamrock. Anyone else notice how absolutely dead the crowd was for Fully Loaded?

OK, that's it. E-mail me at jlongtmp@hotmail.com and tell me what you think.

Stay healthy and don't smoke crack.
