BRASS KNUCKLES WRESTLING

I don't buy PPV's anymore. You know why? They're no better than what's on Raw or Nitro Monday nights. Supposedly major angles, storylines, and conclusions to feuds should occur at PPVs. But let's look at the next WWF PPV and see what would draw us to watch.

JJ vs. Chyna in a good housekeeping match: This angle has dragged on way too long. Jeff Jarret has accumulated lots of cheap heel heat but the fans really don't care about him beyond that. Chyna is a gimmick wrestler. She's 200 pounds soaking wet and saying her skill level is equal to a super heavyweight like Yokozuna or Viscera is being kind. So this isn't going to be interesting in the ring. Now that Jeff Jarret is leaving for WCW this is 100% guaranteed to be a victory for Chyna so there's not even any suspense. Nice to see that the #2 belt in the company will be held by someone who's totally non- credible.

The Big Show vs. The Big Boss Man: This hasn't had much build up. Furthermore, neither of these guys is a particularly good guy to have holding "The Hardcore Championship". I hope they didn't get that whole "The Big Show's father" has cancer angle going just for this match. I'd also be shocked if they put the Bossman over the Big Show. This is probably an appropriate for a Raw or Smackdown but not for a PPV.

Ivory vs. Fabulous Moolah: I would be shocked if Ivory didn't win this one because I haven't heard a single positve comment about Mae Young and Moolah since this started. Absolutely no one is interested in seeing this match. There's also a disturbing rumor that Mae Young will be stripped totally naked in this match which would make everyone gag.

The New Age Outlaws Vs. the Hollys: These teams don't have much in ring chemistry and haven't really looked good together. Also, their "feud" has consisted of a bunch of run ins from the Hollys. That doesn't make for much of a feud if you ask me. When you consider that the NAO lost the tag team titles at Smackdown this is totally anti-climatic.

X-Pac, Kane & The Acolytes in a 4 corner match: This is the first match that probably belongs on a PPV. The Acoylytes and X-Pac/Kane have had more of a legit feud. There's a lot of bad blood between these two teams that's gone back for a couple of months. Plus there's the chance that X-pac or Kane will turn heel and sell out the other. That would be a major development. So while I'm not excited about this match, it's an appropriate PPV Match.

Edge & Christian vs. New Brood: As far as being an "appropriate PPV match" goes this is probably the #1 match on the card. These guy are great in the ring and we know we'll get to see a longer match at the PPV. Plus they're tied in t.i.t. invitational. The winner gets Terri Runnels as a valet and a 100k. Plus, the whole thing is ripe for an angle. If the Hardy Boyz win and get Terri Runnels, where does that leave Gangrel? Maybe Gangrel would sell them out and go back to the "Old Brood" with Christian and Edge. I've also heard that Michael Hayes is reforming the Fabulous Freebirds with Reckless Youth and Joe E. Legend. They've got a history with the Brood and this would be a good time to introduce them. Lots of possiblities, true suspense about who'll win, and a good climax to an angle. I'm predicting Edge and Christian win for the record.

Mankind vs. Val Venis: Now this match annoys me. I'm a big Mick Foley fan and I've been saying for a while they need to give Val a big push. However, they are feuding over a sock with the Rock's face on it. That's ridiculously stupid. They haven't had much of a "feud" either. They really needed to have this on the back burner and let it simmer until the next PPV. You also have to consider that the WWF really didn't do much with Val before they thrust him into a match with Mick Foley either. How do you go from matches with the closest thing the WWF has to jobbers (Prince Albert and Droz (heal up Droz, we're all rooting for you)) to a match with Mick Foley? The talent is right, but not the timing. You also have to expect Mick Foley to come out on top.

The Rock vs. the Bulldog: The Bulldog is now officially "Being shoved down our throats". I understand that he was a main eventer before he left the WWF but he got jobbed and misused by WCW for a long time and then he was out because he was injured. You also have to consider that his mike work has been poor and he hasn't drawn much reaction. They need to do with him what they're doing with Chris Jericho and work him up to main event status vs. mid-carders. Furthermore, the feud between the Rock and the Bulldog has been pretty lackluster and unimpressive. You should also consider that they missed the perfect feud for the Bulldog/Test. A mid-card guy they're trying to get over who should be extremely angry that the Bulldog hurt his fiance. That match would make a lot more sense than the Rock vs. The Bulldog. Plus, I just can't imagine them putting the Bulldog over the man who I think will be the next WWF champ

The Rock. HHH vs. Stone Cold. Winner: HHH is doing a decent job of getting over and he's been building his character and heel heat well. SCSA is the least over he's been in the last two years. I tend to think that they'll have HHH keep the belt and put over the Rock at the next PPV but who knows? This angle has had enough moments to consider it a legit feud. Stone Cold using the rattlesnake, lots of fights between the two, HHH's "The rattlesnake bit me and now I'm deformed angle"., etc. But this doesn't really climax the feud. Win or lose these two guys may hook it up tomorrow night on Raw no matter who wins. This match probably belongs on a PPV but I don't know that it has the huge drawing power you'd like from a PPV main event match.

So what do you have? HHH vs. Stone Cold, X-Pac, Kane & The Acolytes in a 4 corner match, Edge & Christian vs. New Brood and a bunch of other crap that belongs on RAW and not at a PPV. They need twice as many PPV quality matches to make a PPV worthwhile. It's ok to have a throwaway match or tow on a card but the majority of matches shouldn't be that way.
