THE ROCK VS. STONE COLD

Wrestling fans on the internet are a hilarious bunch. While many of these smarts have been critical of your average fan because of their behavior, they do not realize that they are susceptible to the same kind of condition. If the Rock says a catchphrase that has thousands of people responding, it only makes sense that most fans will get in on the act and chant right along with the Rock. For this, the common fan is deemed 'mindless' or stupid by a select group of internet geeks who analyze every movement and utterance in each federation. However, if some 'respectable' columnist (lets say, Netcop..haha, Netcop....haha) speaks ill of a wrestler, these same internet smarts will jump on the bandwagon and mindlessly follow whatever is dictated to them. For instance, a random check of the archives any internet wrestling site will show columnists throwing around praise for the creativity and humor and wrestling ability of the Rock. Think I'm lying? Check rantsylvania, or tsn. Suddenly, he becomes popular with the marks and the internet community turns their collective backs on him because of his limited workrate (on this note, I must say that workrate is an awfully stupid concept. Hello, wrestling is fake remember? Since its all fake and none of the moves REALLY hurt, who cares about how 'realistic' and painful the moves look? I know 100 more fake moves than you do! Should the wrestlers go out of their way to do cool moves like the Hardys that will probably leave them in a wheelchair like Dynamite Kid just to satisfy some lazy fucks who sit in front of their computers all day?). Anyway, back to the column. The Rock vs. Stone Cold.

In the past 2 years, the Rock went from the top heel to the 2nd most liked babyface behind Stone Cold. After dropping the belt and Shane Mac, the Rock has feuded with competitors who are clearly not at his level. Some say that he did this because he was promised the belt. But as every PPV passed, it was clear that this was not the case. He did it to help out the company. Lets look at the individuals that he has elevated (although some went right back to where they started) in no particular order. He laid down for Billy Gunn, a capable wrestler with no charisma and a goofy gimmick of showing his ass to people. Hmm...male dominated sport....mostly male fans...and he SHOWS HIS ASS?! Right. Even though the Rock eventually beat Gunn on PPV, the feud helped take Billy to the next level, although he didn't stay there. Al Snow, a better wrestler with another goofy gimmick got a pin on the Rock. Big Bossman, whose claim to fame was that he used to be really fat, got a win over the Rock just to make him a credible contender to Big Show...and he still got squashed. But the Rock sacrificed for him just to give him that spot at being the #1 contender in the fans eyes. The Rock also laid down for, or aided the cause of, Triple H, Mankind (this was deserved), the Big Show (pinned with one LEG!), the Hollys, NAO, Kurt Angle, Undertaker (a lazy mofo, he should have beat him), Chris Benoit (2 weeks after he enters the WWF), Chris Jericho, Tazz, Rikishi ( I was there during this match, Rikishi was getting huge pops and even landed the Banzai drop....he looked like he was gonna win it), Too Cool, and the Radicals. Now contrast this with Stone Cold Steve Austin. As we all know, Austin refused to work with Jeff Jarrett even though Jarrett was over and he would have beaten him anyway. Over the past year, Stone Cold has only worked with Rock, Mankind, Triple H, Undertaker and Vince McMahon. He put over Mankind because he had to and laid down for Triple H only because he was a cripple (not the neck, please, not the neck, nooooooooooooo). Do you see why the Rock deserves his spot now? Think about Stone Cold's silly matches with Vince with run ins and losses in 3 ways where he gets pinned by both men and weird stipulations (giving Rock the IC belt) and first blood matches. Is SCSA that afraid to lose? Next time you want to criticize the Rock for monotony, remember that about half the WWF roster owes him for their current or past popularity. Can Stone Cold do a senton bomb?

Be here next time as I make fun of that worthless piece of 300 pound monkey crap and cellulite, Mankind.
