LEX LUGER'S HOW TO BE A MAIN EVENTER

This past Wednesday, Lex Luger was the guest on WCW.com's Internet audio show "WCW LIVE." Considering it was probably Luger's first shoot interview ever, it made the show worth listening.

Luger talked about quite a few topics (The first Nitro when he showed up unannounced, Vince McMahon, Summerslam '93, and some other items), but one topic that was covered pissed me off.

When Luger was asked, "Who do you think could be the next big star in WCW?" he didn't have an answer. Since he didn't give an answer, Mark Madden threw out a few of names. Vampiro- Luger claimed his gimmick was kind of "out there." Who cares if his gimmick is kind of outrageous? The Undertaker may be one of the most ridiculous gimmicks in business, but he gets to main event. Chris Benoit- Luger kept going on and on about how Benoit is "short in stature" and how that affects him. Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, and Ric Flair are 3 guys who are just average height and they were/are main eventers. Shane Douglas- Luger quickly pointed out that Douglas isn't in great physical condition. Really? Lex, are you looking at Shane's gut? Well, Shane may have a big gut, but he's working it off!!!

I don't have to agree with Luger's opinion and whoever is reading this column doesn't have to agree with mine. To me, his opinion of what it takes to be a main eventer is very 80s WWF. Big, muscle head guys who are larger than life human beings. Can anybody remember how bad the actual wrestling was in the WWF back then? Every match was the same, because none of the muscle head guys could wrestle. That's why you have to have some diversity. You gotta mix it up, but that's just my opinion.

So, is Lex Luger really the "Total Package?" No, not that mind, body, and soul crap. I'm talking related to wrestling. I'm talking about in ring ability, personality, mic skills, and "the look."

I can sum this up in a few sentences. What I'm about to say just my opinion.

In ring ability- Hell no. If Luger is in a match with Barry Horowitz, Horowitz probably would have to carry his sorry ass.

Personality- Nobody and I mean NOBODY has a duller personality than Lex Luger. After 8 years of watching this stiff, I still can't tell the difference between the heel Lex Luger and the babyface Lex Luger. Mic skills- Three words that make me want change the channel, "Lex Luger interview." I want somebody to email me what they feel is the most memorable Lex Luger interview EVER.

The Look- I really don't know. I head Styles say it last night during the Anarchy Rulz ppv. He said Paul Heyman thought Simon Diamond had "the look." I guess Luger has the look, but I always thought the reason why he joined the Horsemen was because he has the face of a horse.

Honestly, I think if Lex Luger was a rookie debuting in 1999 he wouldn't get over. Chase Tatum reminded me a lot of Lex Luger. And look where he's at. Poor Chase is on the unemployment line.

Personalities who spout off catch phrases left and right are over in 1999. And the personalities are making the big money and main eventing. The Rock and Steve Austin are the two that come to mind.

The bottom line is, it's the fans who decides who is a main eventer, not Lex Luger.
