The Way I See It

First and foremost I'd like to thank CRZ for this opportunity, and hopefully I'll be able to write for this page every week. I think he's doing a great thing by making this page, and hopefully it will grow to be one of the major sites on the web. But enough about that, here's a little bit about myself. My name is Howard Feiock and I'm from Indianapolis, Indiana. I've been "smart" for about 2 years, but have been watching wrestling for as long as I can remember. I'm hoping that I'll be able to come here every Tuesday, and share my thoughts with you about Monday's wrestling, and maybe even bring some humor into things. Having said that, on with the show.

Quote of the Week: Who Can't Wrestle? Maybe that's what WCW stands for? Hum. Go figure. - Galatea

WCW opened the show with one of their lamest commercials to date, and the buy-line pretty much says it all, "Don't miss a minute." Of course I'm being sarcastic, because everyone knows to turn the channel at 9 PM Eastern for the real show. Then they open up the show with Sid and I really want to change the channel already. If I had to sell one finishing move out of everyone's in the company, Sid's powerbomb is second on my list, right behind Hogan's leg-drop. This guy has been one of the biggest pansies in wrestling ever since he broke his rib, and with him being as unreliable as he is, it's a wonder he can even find work. But then again, this is WCW where you only need to be a star from a decade ago or over six and half feet tall to cash a check. As if Sid wasn't enough to make you change the channel to a rerun of the Simpsons, then they start with the Lenny and Lodi shit again. I think this angle could have been absolutely hilarious, but instead the fucked it up from the very beginning, and blew it even worse in the end. I'm trying not to be too anti-WCW, but come on, this stuff sucks.

It was great to see Sting and Flair in the ring at the same time, no matter how many times we've seen it. I know you might be booing me for saying that, but tough shit, this is my opinion : ). These guys have been going at it for as long as I can remember, but it's still a good match, I think that deserves at least a little credit. Eddie Guerrero is looking absolutely fantastic after being out for so long, and the program's always more enjoyable when Eddie's on the card. The B-Team angle is really getting old, and nobody in the arena or watching at home really cares anymore. It was funny for awhile, but it's a tired angle and they need to drop it all together. If people will forget about the Hummer driver, then they'll definitely forget the B-Team. While I'm on the topic of bad angles, who's so pissed off at Kanyon that they put him with DDP and Bam-Bam? I would have been pretty mad about that assignment, but I guess he still gets some airtime at least.

Poor Randy Savage has to drop the World Title less that 24 hours after he gets it, and then they can't even let him score a clean pin on Kidman. Why does Kidman have to face him? They couldn't at least find a heavyweight who was willing to job to him? To make matters worse, now Savage has to feud with Rodman! Talk about the bottom of the totem pole.

I enjoyed seeing ICP in WCW to complete the trifecta, but then again, I've been an ICP fan since I used to live in Detroit when they were still underground. It's good to see that they're getting some kind of push too, because WWF and ECW both used them for ratings, then jobbed them out pretty bad. I don't mind that they stepped on Konnan to get their push at all either. Konnan used to be a decent wrestler, but his ego and his lame "street" gimmick have to go. I saw Konnan one time at a house show getting out of a Nissan Altima, so he's anything but street on general principle. The Benoit / Malenko match was great, but then again those two are my favorite wrestlers. Their stuff in ECW was absolutely amazing, and it's a shame that WCW split them up in the first place. Putting them with Saturn and Shane Douglas is a good fit, and hopefully they'll get a good push behind them so we can see some really good matches. The main even was the sorriest excuse for a wrestling match, and I wish I hadn't even wasted 9 minutes of my life watching it. I've already said Sid is one of the worst workers in the business, and Hogan is absolutely the worst by far. Overall, the show came off well, even with so much shit on it, so maybe they'll do better next week.

WWF opens their show the same way every week, but the format of their show works well for them. It's good that they plot out the story lines for you at the beginning, just in case you miss a week. Sure they don't have a lot of in-ring time, and their matches are relatively short, but the fans keep tuning in, so they must be doing something right. Vince is the model heel, and anyone can learn a lesson or two from his mic work. The Hardy Boyz are absolutely amazing, and I haven't seen a tag team that worked so well together since Wrath and Mortis. Sure the Mortal Kombat gimmick was weak, but they worked great together, and actually used a lot of double-team maneuvers, something you don't see much anymore. The jury's still out on Billy Gunn, but in my book, I honestly don't think that he deserves the push that he's getting. We'll see what he makes of it, but he's definitely not ready for the upper-middle card.

The Rock never gets old for me and he always makes me laugh, no matter how many times he goes through the same routine. I hated the Rock for a long time, but that was just because my girlfriend couldn't keep her eyes off of him. But now that she's not around when I watch wrestling I am constantly amazed at his performance. Christian is going to go far in this sport, as long as he stays right at home in the WWF. He and Edge are two of the best young talents I've seen in the Big Two, and if WWF keeps pushing them like they have been, they're going to go far. Neither one of them has any mic skills most likely though, that's why they never talk. If they learn how to work the crowd, then learn how to talk shit, then they're going to skyrocket to the top of the tag-team ranks. I know they're young and paying their dues, but these two really have potential. Hardcore Holly and The Big Show don't really fit too well as a tag-team, but it gives Hardcore Holly a chance to make an ass of himself so I'm all for it!

I don't care much for most of the main-eventers in WWF at all. Steve Austin has been old to me for a really long time. Sure he's great on the mic, and still gets a huge pop, but his angle is really tired. Titan's still selling t-shirts though, so I'm sure they're going to ride this one into the ground. The Undertaker doesn't even get my attention anymore. I've seen everything he's going to do already, and the constant angles with him and Kane are really boring. I do agree with Rick Scaia on at least one thing though, because the first time Kane does a crotch-chop the crowd is going to go absolutely nuts. I can't take Triple H seriously in his new gimmick, cause he's simply not the hard-ass type. He was a great sidekick in DX, and even a great leader for DX, but the reason was cause he could cut loose and have fun. He needs to get that scowl off of his face, and go back to having fun.

This is all building up to what looks like a great pay-per-view though, so I'll be sure to check it out on Sunday. Until then, keep enjoying the wrestling, and if you're into games then run down to your local arcade and check out Tekken Tag Tournament. Thanks again CRZ for this chance, and hopefully I'll be back next week.
