WHEN THE BOTTLE'S YOUR BEST FRIEND

Fade to black...

The following is a statement from the WWF:
The WWF is deeply saddened by the death this weekend of Brian Pillman. According to information furnished by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Brian was found dead Sunday afternoon at approximately 1:09 p.m. in his room at the Budgetel Inn in Bloomington, Minn. The Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy and at this time the manner and cause of death is undetermined.

Fade to black...

Spicolli was found dead at his home in LA on Sunday morning by one of his buddies who had spent the night. The story was all over the net the next day, as expected. The Bagpipe Report says he died after allegedly overdosing on a muscle relaxant called soma while watching wrestling tapes and drinking wine the night before.

Please, lord...not again

Wrestling superstar, Scott Hall was arrested last night for public drunkenness; this is the 2nd incident in a matter of months for the World Championship Wrestling superstar.

In a hotel room, is where this story begins. No different then any of the other hotels he's stayed in. Maybe a little cleaner. The bed a little smaller. The cable is out again, can't watch Raw or Nitro. Doesn't even know what's going on anymore within the "big two". It's been a while since his services have been needed by anyone. Paul Heyman won't even touch a contract with his name on it. Cocaine..beat it. Heroin...beat it. Jack Daniel's...

100 hundred bottles of beer on the wall, 100 hundred bottles of beer...pass them around and its a sure bet, Jake will drink them all.

'I'm not going to say it's this guy's fault or this is why I did that. It
doesn't matter. Bottom line is that I did the wrong stinkin' thing. And I
hate myself for it man...'

----Jake Roberts

For Aurelian Smith Jr., life has never been easy. He's publicly come out and said that he was molested as a child. Raped by a woman. He's got 7 children, lives with none of them. He's got an appetite for destruction. He's also got a big heart.

Smith is currently working on a project with a woman from London. Their company, from what I understand helps run-away and orphaned kids. You've heard of Habitat for humanity. This is habitat for the youth.

But as hard as Aurelian works, Jake "the snake" Roberts always pulls him back. Roberts is Aurelian Smith's alter ego. The character of Jake Roberts made Aurelian world famous. Always among the top card drawers, it was the character of Roberts that Smith could finally let loose all his frustrations within his life, inside the ring. But soon, the frustrations followed him outside as well.

The nights got longer, as did the lines of coke.
The days got shorter, as did his consciousness.

It was time for a change............

On the road, there are plenty of hotel rooms. And just as in Aurelian Smiths room, there's hope. But hope was the last thing Scott Hall thought he had left. Hall was entangled in a vicious online war with his ex wife. She claimed he was a bad father. Never home, drunk and coked up when he was. Affairs. Oh god, the affairs. Strippers, dancers, hookers.

Then it started to happen. Life started to unravel. Car accidents, bad judgements, more car accidents. Rock Bottom. He had no where to go. No one to help. His friends were all battling the same demons........

We all have our demons. We all deal with them as well as we can. I don't end this column with a sign of hope, but a prayer for all those who have died in the past due to the demons we all have.

Brian Pillman
Louie Spicolli
Everyman is mortal. Everyman has an end. These men we idolize inside of the ring are just that, men. They too, are human. We must stop treating them like circus acts, and appreciate them for what they are. Jake Roberts is killing Aurelian Smith. Scott Hall is killing himself. Brian Pillman, Louie Spicolli, they are proof.

Scott Hall seemingly has beaten the game. But we thought that of Jake Roberts, didn't we? This is the most important time; this is the time Scott needs us most. And damn it, why can't we be there. Everything these guys did for us, for the sake of entertainment. We DO OWE IT TO THEM.

We owe it to all of them.
