BLAH

AND MARKING OUT

Hey all. Some quick thoughts on the latest PPV before I go to sleep...

Royal Rumble Thoughts:

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the Rumble. I especially appreciated all the intra-match storylines and the rampant use of psychology. Have the boys all been watching old Flair and Arn Anderson footage, or just having long conversations with Benoit and Regal?

Dudley Boyz v. Edge and Christian: Hot, hot, hot, HOT opener. The hot crowd helped a lot. Another solid effort from these four guys. Nice to see the Duds go over. I especially marked-out for the interrupted 3-D on Christian becomes a DDT on Devon. Let the next chapter in their terrific feud begin.

Jericho v. Benoit: My hands down match of the night!! WhaddaMATCH. I'll admit, going into the Rumble, I thought this match had potential disaster written all over it. Boy, was I wrong. These two guys put on an outstanding match complete with the inter-match storyline of Jericho's shoulder injury from last week's TV. Brutal, stiff match. Well-chosen spots. LOTS of psychology. Of all the Jericho matches I have seen, this now goes down as my favorite (I had his Last Man Standing match versus HHH on the top of list before this offering). Wow. Way to step it up, Jericho. Excellent effort as always, Benoit.

Chyna v. Ivory: Whatever. The very predictable finish occurred as Chyna was re-injured in the match, although I did like that her injury occurred as a result of her own ridiculous springboard handstand elbow instead of a RTC beatdown. I don't know about you, but this still will not make me buy her book. Kudos to the King and Jim Ross for a great sell job with her injury, though. Ross' tone was perfect in generating concern and sympathy. Maybe her book will sell after all.

HHH (w/ Stephanie McMahon-Hemsley) v. Kurt Angle (w/ Tits Stratus): It's official. Even though HHH is a better wrestler than the Rock, HHH has not been able to get as much out of Angle in these high-profile PPV matches as the Rock has. This match had NO heat until Tits, Steph and Vince got involved. Their last PPV match at Unforgiven had very little heat as well and that match was supposed to be the love triangle blow off.. I know this match was heel/heel and the two wrestlers were being very focused and paced, but the crowd still would not pop until after all the outside chaos got them excited. Angle has the most heat early with the mandatory "Angle sucks" chant. Another finish that was predicted in various places around the Net. I'm happy to see Angle get the win, though. It's gives him a tad bit more credibility (HHH actually let him look dangerous in this match) and sets up his loss next month.

Rumble: I liked this match. It was well paced and very well-booked IMODO. I especially liked all the intra-match storylines (am I repeating myself?): the Hardcore Title and those who want it (Raven/Blackman/Hardcore/Al Snow), Test/Albert, Test/Regal, Kane/Undertaker union (or not), Rock/Big Show (From last year's rumble, no less), and the Rock/Austin tease (or should I say appetizer?). Two columns ago, I thought Rock would win the Rumble, but back then I also thought that Kurt Angle would defend and drop his title to Austin at this event. Now it looks like Rock may win the title next month leading to Rock/Austin at WrestleMania. Or maybe not since the WWF still has to figure Y Pac's boy, HHH, into this mix somehow. Maybe another three-way? I hope not. We'll see. I'm just praying that we are not about to see another Rock/Big Show feud. Speaking of the Big Show, he didn't appear that much smaller when last I saw him. Didn't he get demoted because he was so out of shape that he had a series of horrible matches culminating in a piss-poor job against the Undertaker at a house show that was followed by nonchalant disrespect when confronted by the Deadman? He looked intense, but still rather plump to me.

If I had to give it a beer drank/beer spilled ranking, I'd give it a six pack drank with a half beer spilled. And hey, drinking beers and marking out is what I'm all about baby!

I'll be back later this week after the Monday night shows with 10 Think I Think.

Oh yeah, I'll also answer a question I've gotten twice about my pen name (as in, what does it mean?). I'll give you a hint: It has a lot to do with a Green Bay Packer wide receiver and an old arcade game called The Main Event.

Anyone who can successfully guess either part gets mentioned next time!

I'm Out.
