POSITIVELY PETES

Greetings and salutations, fellow smarks! Amazingly enough, this is the thrid edition of Postively', been on hiatus for about... Lord only knows! But in time for the big PPV, I'm back to give my spin on most of the latest.

"C'mon Vince. Just One fi- Oh, he already bought it..."

My best memory of Vince vs WCW isn't the nWo or the Russo/Ferra Era(s), although I did love seeing Vinnie Ru's promos... "I'm from New York City!" Heh!

But no, my fave moment of the Monday Night Wars was when Uncle Eric did all those open challenges to Vince for a PPV match. He actually said with a straight face that he'd like to have a no holds barred, non-scripted matchup with Vince-Vince. Course it never ammounted to much other than some goofy B&W "commercials", but it just seemed so funny that Eric got so sure of himself that he wanted to bring the wars to a cresendo of a bare knuckles brawl.

Funnier thing is, it did. ...In a business sense.

Now Titan Sports, WWFE, the clan McMahon, owns the only company that ever held a candle to the WWF (ECW was GOOD, no doubt about it, but it was far off from having the success of WWF or WCW), Dubya See Dubya. God's on his kingdom, all's well with the world.

Personally I think this could be the greatest thing that coul ever happen to the world of wrestling. Mainly because of the opportunities that are now open to the indie boys. Before, WWF was one of the biggest buyers of the young turks of wrestling, while WCW held back a bit and centered more on celebrity power. For every Jindrak or Crowbar, there were two former WWF stars. That could change now that the ever watchful eye of Vince is in command and is watching the sticks for the next best thing.

As well, we'll finally have Shane in a position other than Vince's organ monkey (Brain. Gutter. Out.). He's gonna play the promoter this time round. But is he a good promoter? Or a bad promoter? And will he be doing vignettes akin to Vince's XFL stuff until WCW's relaunch?

"I'm sorry I'm not at the arena tonight. But I'm hard at work on... W. C. W." (insert pop here)

All said and done, it's gonna be a new era for wrestling. And for those who're already up in arms over the deal. I say sit back, relax, and save your bitching until they even do anything with the damn thing.

WrestleMania X7 Lowdown

Okay, with X7 near in the horizon, lets take a look at the matches...

- Six-man Tag: Tazz & APA vs. RTC

This is pretty much your basic curtain jerker here. Not much for me to sayother than it is ironic that Tazz, the guy who was Lawler's foe, is now fighting The King's fight...

Petes Calls It: Taz and APA clean house, but don't win the war yet

- Gimmick Battle Royal

This match has had me grinning from ear to ear ever since I heard about it. Me being a WrestleCrap fan, I gotta mark out huge for this idea. It has got to be the biggest proof that Vince even has a sense of humour about his bad gimmicks.

But you gotta wonder... Will Doink be Matt Borne? Will Gooker be Hector Gurrero? Will One Man Gang get taken out, only to quickly return as... Akeem!? Will Hillbilly Jim bring his WWF Video Library as foriegn objects? And will the match usher in an unannounced new wrestler as the final entry? THIS is now... WWF excitement!

Petes Calls It: Hrmmm... I'll just say that a rousing good time will be had by all.

- European Championship: Test vs. Eddie Guerrero

It's sad... I REALLY want to care about Test. I do. But his career seems so meaningless whenever he's cut loose... Liked him as part of the Corperation. Liked him as Steph's fiancee. Liked him as part of T&A. But when he goes solo... Eehh..

Petes Calls It: Eddie wins via interferance by Regal, retaliated by Jericho, adding feul to their upcoming match.

- Women's Championship: Chyna vs. Ivory

You know... Browsing through the opening chapter of Chyna's book, I now know two things... One; she really doesn't like Trish. And two; she IS the reason why so many dumbasses credit RATM to HHH's theme. Other than my continued amazement that Ivory was on American Gladiators, I don't have much else to say about these two.

Petes Calls It: Bathroom break! ...Okay, fine. (sigh) Chyna wins and finally puts it to rest.

- Hardcore Championship: Big Show vs. Kane vs. Raven

1 - 2 = Negative fun!

Okay, so that has nothing much to do with the match other than the fact that unless if Pete Rose teams with Raven, it's basically two on one for about the first or second half (depends on how focused they are at the start). And speaking of Pete Rose, some say this may be his year. Personally I love seeing him getting beaten every year, but I'd love it even more if he actually pins Kane for payback, only to have to have a legit hardcore match against the Big Red Machine on RAW. Now that'd be fun!

Petes Calls It: This one is a toss-up 'ere... So lemme get a coin... Toonie don't fail me now... Tails! Which means... Utter jack since I never designated what means what. Raven wins.

- Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle

I can't believe that they haven't made it a submission match! There still is Smackdown left to make tha change, but at this point I doubt it... But still, even with a pinfall win, this'll be one brutal match.

Petes Calls It: Benoit wins it and solidifies his status as a new age Austin-face.

- Intercontinental Championship: Chris Jericho vs. William Regal

I find it amusing that one moment Regal is besmirched with the insult of "Ass Clown" and the next he's being attacked by one.

Petes Calls It: Jericho wins. Hands down.

- TLC II: Dudley Boyz vs. Hardy Boyz vs. Edge & Christian

I was hoping that this was gonna be a nine-man triple-tag match with Lita, Rhino, and Spike added into the mix, but with it being a TLC match with no DQ's, I wouldn't be surprised if they did come in as heavily active players.

Petes Calls It: I forsee lots of sick bumps. E to the C win.

- Street Fight, Special Referee Mick Foley: Vince McMahon vs. Shane McMahon

The Foley bit must be new because I don't recall him being hyped as the ref... But there he is on the website.

Of the two, Shane seems the most adept at wrestling... But otherwise I think you guys should only expect the two to beat the life out of each other, and have a few run-ins from guys like HHH, and possibly some WCW guys trying to make nice-nice with Shane'o Mac. Maybe we'll even see a return of the Posse.

Petes Calls It: Massive screwjob on Vince. It's obvious that Trish is working for Linda, and that Vince's wife won't be doped up like planned. So I figure that everyone but Steph (Cause she's evil.) will be in on one massive conspiracy. Shane wins.

- HHH vs. Undertaker

HHH: Said to carry the most political clout in the WWF, and his character is a well known madman.

'Taker: Ten years of destruction. And around eight years of undefeated WM matches.

This here is flavor country.

Petes Calls It: Anything can happen. Kane could help Taker, Vince could help HHH, or even the cops could make a return. Who knows. But I'll say that Mean Mark keeps his streak.

- World Wrestling Federation Championship: Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock

Officially, I don't give a damn. They can have all the back stabbing. All the clashing egos. All the Limp Bizkits. I just don't really feel much about caring about who wins. Probably because I already know who wins...

Petes Calls It: SCSA wins with aid from Debra. It's obvious since The Rock still has a month or so left of shooting his next film, and because of another thing, which will spill out of this segment...

Closing Thoughts

HHH is featured for the Backlash graffic in the latest Previews magazine, and the last guy he beat at a PPV was Austin... Makes you think.

Ja ne!
