FANTASY BOOKING 2 - the WWF Light-heavyweights

Geeze.  Not only do I get subtly ragged on ("if DDTDigest ever gets [the Worldwide report] up"), not only does my name get RIPPED from the main page after only nine hours of unadulterated internet wrestling fame, but CRZ starts talking 'bout sites with no ads, and you know who he leaves out?

Yea, the Shooters.  How EVIL.  CRZ has no soul.

If CRZ is the recapping man, than the Man's HOLDING US DOWN!  We gotta fight the power!

Um, yeah.  I think I'm writing this for a reason.  And it's not to unmercifully bash CRZ, not to babble, and definitely not to say the GAME~!  a whole bunch.

Suppose Terry Taylor does stay with the WWF.  And becomes head booker.  If you recall, unlike most bookers (it seems), he likes pushing cruiserweights.  For the WWF, that means only one thing...

THE RETURN OF GILLBERG! (to hand over the title.)  Let's just say he slipped on a piece of soap in the shower and injured himself so much, he can't keep up his demanding amount of title defenses.  (Sorry Duane, but I'm sure you'll still pop the High School gyms with or without that piece of gold around your waist.  And I mean that in the best way possible.)  This is all announced the week before Survivor Series, with a tournament being scheduled for the near future.

And so, my booking starts.  I'm going mostly just book the LHs, but outside events impacting  people involved get scripted too, for your enjoyment.  (Although...I've looked at the Smackdown spoilers already...and my outside plans already have to change.  Sigh.)  I'm going go to WM, where I'll leave the endings kinda open.

One other thing.  When I'm day dreaming this up during classes I don't really like, I usually install myself as heel manager supreme.  But, since we're dealing with quasi-reality, I'll use someone who isn't so far fetched (but maybe only slightly so, given what the WWF has been saying lately.)

Survivor Series

In one Survivor Series match, Hardyz/Cagez beat Hollyz/Kewlz, with Matt and Christian as Survivors.

At the end of the show, Shawn Michaels makes a surprise return, and basically saves Triple H's title reign and/or DX's life in the main event.  On the following RAW, HBK is revealed as just an associate of DX...and of his own little Indy Fed, the Texas Wrestling Association, TWA.  (Or is it the TWF? I forget.)

In a later interview (Smackdown that week, I'd assume), HBK explain why we care: He gets cash if more people come, more people would come if he had a WWF champion wrestling and lookie who just bought out the contract Papi Chulo (a guy who would probably get over good with the fanbase, we'll say).

Yea, I know it's kinda hokey and it kinda makes Shawn turn into Cornette2K, minus a tennis racket, but we need one over person, or we're going have trouble making the marks care about the eight we're going try to get over.

The following week, we dive right into the

Light Heavyweight Tournament

Somewhere along the line, we get over the fact that weight limit is now 225.  Given the WWF, I don't expect them to remember the old limit was 215, but that would be nice.  The bracket is a shown below

Three week tournament, first round has a match on each show (Raw/Smackdown/Heat/MetalJakked),  second round on Raw and Smackdown, final round on the Armageddon, which just happens to be the two year universe of the first time we tried this.

Week 1/Round 1

RAW - Taka vs BC
The announcers point out that the last match of the first tournament is the first match of this one.  To start a trend that would be repeated throughout the tournament, Sho Funaki and Scott Taylor come out with their partners, but get sent to the back before the match starts.  Close match, with Lawler being his impartial self, but Taka hitting the Taka Driver (for the first time in forever) for the win.

SMACKDOWN - Matt vs Christian
Matt and Christian show respect to each other, having being the survivors on there team almost two weeks prior, and then let loose in the match.  Jeff, Edge and Terri watch on monitors.  Probably a better match than the first round one, with Christian reversing a MegaHurtz (HardyCutter) right into his finisher for the three.

HEaT - Papi Chulo vs Scott Taylor
HBK grants himself guest announcing privileges, and replays the same impartial announcing job that Lawler showed in BC's match.  Scotty Too Hottie fools around too much, and Papi Chulo hits the Shooting Star Press (and manages to actually land on his opponent this time!) for the win.

JAKKED/METAL - Jeff Hardy vs Sho Funaki
Probably the worst match of the first round, which isn't supposed to be a complaint, just that these two have worked together once and no one was paying much attention that night.  (Didn't Scotty face Papi on SuperAstros...I know he faced someone.)  Still, Jeff manages to not to cripple himself and hits a top rope head butt for the win.

Week 2/Round 2

RAW - Taka vs Christian
Hey, THIS match happened before too.  And, we show clips of it!  (If they're digging out clips of Taz jumping the rail at Mind Games, they have time to find Christian vs Taka at Judgment Day.)  We give this one as much time as the fans attention will allow, with the announcers that Taka seems re-intensified since this tournament started.  Then, the Hollyz run in and give Christian a close up look at Scale Holly, Taka Driver, see ya later.  Edge tries to make the save, but gets knocked down.  Surprising everyone, Taka turns around and makes the save himself.  Everyone's kinda confused.

SMACKDOWN - Papi Chulo vs Jeff Hardy
Again HBK makes sure he gets to be at ringside, being special ring announcer.  Papi Chulo is announced as "the next breakthrough star".  Jeff Hardy is announced as "the next Marty Jannety".  Surprisingly, Matt's not happy about that.  If there was ever a spotfest in this tournament, THIS would be it.  Match ends with Jeff outside of the ring for some reason as Papi distracts the ref.  HBK gets up, Superkick, throws Jeff back in, and gets to the mic just in time to announce Papi as the winner.  Matt runs in after the bell, but Papi and HBK escape.

Week 3

I'm assuming there's a week three...but I haven't checked a WWF calendar, so we may only have three weeks between PPVs.  Assuming there is, we do a tag match on RAW or Smackdown:

Taka/Sho vs Papi/??? with the obvious implication that a certain manager is going lace up the boots.  In reality, it'd be fun to bring back Pantera or Apollo Dantes for a one shot, but no one would get it.  Maybe Psi or Parka or someone would be released by WCW by then (can't cut those 20 minute promos, ya know), but can't count on that.  Most likely, HBK would hire some heel (Too Kewl?) to team for the night, then just leave them the to Kai En Tai wolves.

Which leads us right to...

Armageddon

Elsewhere on the card, Edge and Christian managed NOT to win the tag team titles.

In his second attempt, Chris Jericho beats Chyna and becomes the WWF IC Champ, thanks to interference against Chyna (and not really for Jericho) by X-Pac.

Final - Taka vs Papi Chulo
Shawn's the official belt presenter for this match, which must have a winner.  If we really want to point things out, clips of WMXIV are shown, at the Aguila->Papi Chulo demasking is finally publicly noted.  Given that these two have worked together before, they're able to go a good 12 minute match, with TAKA controlling the flow.  TAKA eventually hits a big Missile Dropkick, and stars calling for the Taka Driver, causing HBK to take the gold belt, and smack into Taka, while the ref is distracted.  Papi covers...2 count.  HBK isn't happy.  Papi isn't happy.  Taka's too groggy to really care.  Sho's not happy and running to ringside.  Funaki roots for Taka outside the ring, as they go through another 5 minute segment full of near falls.  Another ref bump as Taka hits the Taka Driver this time, and superkicks HBK as he runs in.  (Shawn taking a bump?)  Funaki comes in...and Taka Drivers Taka!  Papi rolls over, and he's your new champ...and Kai En Tai is DEAD!

(Gee, assuming the rumors are true and Triple H beats Rock here, this would be a depressing PPV.  Like last years, I guess.)

Building to Royale Rumble

HBK asks the world "Why get one underutilized light heavyweight talent, when you can get two at the same price?"   Smart fans remember that Funaki has appeared at (is appearing in?) TWA shows and wonder why they didn't figure out the screwjob to start with.

With X-Pac and Chyna feuding, Edge finds his way to being the #1 contender to the IC title, and feuds with Jericho, leaving Christian in need of a partner.

Taka gets a match with Funaki, only to get left beaten by Funkai, Papi and HBK.  Christian makes the save, and a new partnership is formed.  The team wrestles some squash match on Jakked to get over that they are a team.

A triple threat match is held, between Taka, Christian and Jeff Hardy (all were final or semi-finalist), to determine who gets the shot at the Rumble.  Thanks to a little luck, and some Funaki/Papi interference, Jeff gets the shot.

This sets up a triple threat tag match, between Taka/Christian, Hardyz and Papi/Funaki.  At first, both face teams just take turns beating up the heels, but Papi and Funaki end up working them against each other, with Papi sneaking in an easy pin on Jeff for the win.

Taka/Christian challenge the Hardyz to a rematch, and Papi/Funaki end up at ringside, egging both teams on.  The faces soon realize that it's more fun to beat up on Papi and Funaki then each other and decide to do that RIGHT NOW.

Finally, just before the Rumble, the Hardyz beat Papi/Funaki, with Jeff getting the pin on Papi.

Royale Rumble

In the IC Title match, Chris Jericho cheats to win against Edge.

Papi Chulo vs Jeff Hardy - LH title match,
Both men have full entourage, and they both cancel each other out (Matt stops Funaki from interfering, Terri distracts HBK), but HBK still manages to slip a small metal disc, which Papi ties to his boot for a loaded SuperKick, and the pin.

In the tag match, the face Acoyltes destroy the Hollyz and become champs.

Building to No Way Out

The Hardyz turn their sights towards the tag team division.

Although Edge is still somewhat busy with Chris Jericho, he starts to show up a little more for Christian's matches (as he hadn't the month before.)

Papi, having LH matches against others not named Taka or Christian, adopts the superkick as his new finisher.  And starts dressing more and more like HBK, including, with his approval, doing the muscle pose before matches.

Eventually, after some more Taka/Christian tag team matches, including a match versus Funaki/Papi where they get the win, we end up having a #1 contenders match...Taka vs Christian.

With no interference (HBK and co stopped backstage, and Edge watching at ringside, just in case), and a long time, Christian comes out on top on a small package reversal.  Taka doesn't seem happy, but he does shake hands.

No Way Out

Christian vs Papi Chulo

Christian takes control early, but Papi manages to cheat a little, and then starts hitting an ode to Shawn.  Teardrop Suplex, then a flying elbow drop, but only a 2.  Papi slams Christian, then goes up again for a top rope moonsault, but still a two count.  Papi picks up Christian, whips, tries for the Superkick, but Christian ducks under and tries for the Inverted DDT, but Papi escapes that and hits Superkick #2.

It gets 2.5, which is when Papi and HBK freak out.  Out runs Funaki...who gets jumped and Taka Drivered by his old partner.  HBK decides to take things in his own hands, and gets on the ring apron with the belt...only to be pulled down by Edge.  HBK starts backing off, and draws Edge right into a Chris Jericho sneak attack.  Meanwhile, the match is still going on back in the ring, and Christian looks to be making a turn around.  HBK hurries back to the ring, belt still in hand and swings it at Christian.  But, HBK's ran all out of luck tonight, and he hits Papi square in the head, as Christian ducked out of the way.  3 count, new champion.

Later, Edge manages to get a pin on Jericho...just as the time limit expired.  Edge isn't happy, the fans aren't happy, Y2J is thrilled.

Building to WMXVI
Through a series of events I don't feel like thinking up at 3AM, a 30 minute Iron Man match is signed between Edge and Jericho for WM.  Jericho makes his own video interview, like Bret and Shawn did four years before.

As Christian gets through title defenses, against the Hardyz and Too Cool and others, Taka finally gets revenge on his enemies, beating Funaki (when Papi messes up) and Papi (when Funaki messes up) for the WM Title shot.  Dissension between the two HBK charges starts developing.

Christian and Taka again team to take on Funaki and Papi Chulo, but this time, they're just not working well together, with the pressure of their upcoming match, and by the end, they're fighting each other.  The heel duo doesn't do much better, but does win before arguing.

Just before Wrestlemania, an Edge/Christian vs Taka/Jericho match signed, with Taka showing moments of his old heel self.  He and Jericho win, when he pins Christian.  Meanwhile, HBK is forced to sign a Papi/Funaki match.

WrestleMania 16
Edge manages a 4-3 win over Jericho, and becomes IC champ.  That I'm sure of, because if Jericho does what he's capable of doing by then, it may be time to move him up and way from the IC champ.  And by now, the fans are screaming for Edge as champ...having him lose here wouldn't be a good idea.

As for the LH matches, it really depends on who's gotten over in the last four months.  All things equal, I'd do Christian over Taka, where both wrestle as faces, and Funaki over Papi, to push Funaki as the next challenger, but maybe keeping the group together.  But that depends on if the fans would seem to accept Funaki as a top LH wrestler, or if there would be plans for Edge and Christian to be teaming for a while (in which case, I'd probably back off the Taka/Papi + Taka/Sho matches for a while.)

And, if this all was getting over, there'd probably be a few new guys that I could through in here, instead of the four or five guys that have been around it for the last few months.

Gets you thinking, right?   We could have this.   Or something better.  And yet, we don't.  And why?  Because we don't have time when we have Viscrea/MarkHenry/Godfather and Bossman/Albert/BigShow and Moolah/Ivory feuds.

Or maybe it's just me.  Would you want to see this?  Let me know.
