WCW - IS THAT A CARWAX OR SOMETHING ?

So here it is,one guy's opinion on the current state of WCW. Now remember this is my viewpoint so it doesn't really matter. Please form your own. First off we have to look at what it was. This used to be the stomping grounds for every great wrestler. For example, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Harley Race, Ricky Steamboat, and the list goes on and on. It may not have been the WCW as we know it know it now but maybe one of its former lives. Still, the point is, when the WWF was heading into the sports entertainment field, the WCW was bringing us some of the best wrestling ever. They brought us the Clash of Champions. Some of these were great. Who would believe that they would show a barb wire match on prime time T.V. The WWF at this point in time was still kinda quirky and the ratings machine it is now. So not a lot of people watched it. Hands down the winner at this point in time WCW bottom line.

Now we move ahead a little bit. The WWF is starting to catch on. Nothing completely bizarre has happened yet (kidnappings and Val Venis). With people starting to pay more attention to the WWF, WCW stalls. Here's where they killed themselves, instead of promoting within their ranks, they went to the old folks home. No offense guys, but I grew up watching you. I'm twenty-eight now. So they throw out large amounts of money for wrestlings passing legends. Hulk Hogan, Ric =46lair, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, Curt Hennig, Barry Windham. There's more but you shall be spared. These guys cannot take a bump anymore and it shows. Hogan and Flair still bleed pretty good (when they don't censor it), but they are painful to watch. Been there , seen that. They also at this time started tossing some of the best talent in the business. This list is pretty much half of the top ten in any magazine. Steve Austin (we don't like your all black look), Mick Foley (this guy gives more than anyone, Mick you are the man), The Undertaker (how much money has this guy brought in), Paul Wight ( The Big Show bringing in Big Bucks), and Jeff Jarrett (actually I should say Debra and those magic puppies). I don't know why some of these people left but I'm sure they had good reasons. Sorry X-Pac, I didn't want to leave you out, mad props. So anyway, the fact is they dropped the ball.

Now we move onto today. We'll make a watered down version of the WWF. And throw in a splash of ECW. Bad idea. What happens is that you get an o.k. storyline with no hook. Not very exciting. I can honestly say I don't tune in every week anxiously waiting for it to start. Nothing on there grabs me. And then they throw in a D.J. and some other wacky things and it becomes a variety show. Now don't get all uppity at me I listen to hip hop. So it's not that I don't like it. I'm just saying they don't need it. What they can do to fix it is loosen up the tie a little and don't put the kids to bed. A few bad words aren't going to hurt anybody. It adds to the emotion. Besides you'll hear quite a bit of foul language on a Braves ballgame. So let a few slide by. Next on the block, the talent roster. So let me get this right, we'll get some of the best guys in ECW and let them go to crap. You want to win the ratings war, heres a quick solution, let The Sandman (hak is a crappy name) and Raven go at in a cage and let them bleed. Leave the cage out and still let them bleed. I don't know if it's just me, but blood belongs in wrestling. I've been hit twelve times with a chair and I'm still not bleeding. Ya right ! So let them bleed. Ted Turner shows some fine movies with lots of blood so what's the difference. WCW has some of the best young talent there is. But don't tell them that they might put it to use. Mikey Whipwreck is great to watch, the Disco Inferno is not great to watch, Billy Kidman is great to watch, Ernest Miller is not great to watch. And these guys win matches. Put down the magic eightball and start thinking. Maybe you should push the younger guys and quit holding up the old guys. I really think that WCW has potential to almost keep it a forty/sixty split. They really have to do something for that last ten percent. My solution, lay off the "oh no it's a bad word button", let's see some blood, get rid of the fluff (you can keep the Nitro Girls) if ECW or the WWF doesn't need it neither do you, push the guys that are fun to watch, and let's see some matches that will keep us from flipping back over to The War Zone. These are just my opinions so please form your own.
