SIGNING ON: R.I.P WCW

So Vince won, great WCW will be run properly, no more glass ceiling, no more announcers hyping the main event over Crusierweight matches, no more egos, no more ageing stars hogging the spotlight, no more shitty gimmicks, no more feuds dropped midway, no more nepotism because Benoit knows none of these things happen in the WWF:

"In case you couldn't tell I was being sarcastic" Simpson, Homer.

The reason the whole collapse of WCW is so heartbreaking is because there was/is a gaping hole, WWF fans ARE becoming bored with the product they're putting out. This Wrestlemania despite having Austin/ Rock going at it is perhaps the least anticipated in ages. A decent product could have struck it big.

My name is Bill Cooling and I've never been a die hard WCW fan. I just started watching after Sin (Bravo changed their time to just before RAW so I checked them out). I was impressed, this was far and away superior to the RAW is MCMAHON show. I checked it out the next week and it sucked. However RAW sucked even more so I stuck with it.

Boy was I rewarded, the next week was brilliant show and it kept my attention throughout I was willing to change my allegiance, start watching WCW over the WWF. However they insisted on FLUSHING IT DOWN THE PAN BABYEE! Whatever got me interested was long gone. I meekly made my way back to the WWF (thorough the Reapplies Flap). Then saw them with the product they put on basically nail a "Your here forever" sign as they continued to do everything that pissed me off in the first place.

The WWF' s improved since, mostly thanks to Paul E. But I can't help thinking how good WCW could should have become. You see WCW had a lot going for it.

They had the best heel champion I've ever seen in Scott Steiner. Who despite feuding with substandard opposition was thrilling to watch, his promos were among the best in the business. He was (and still is) far more entertaining than Triple-H who hasn't tried shit since Fully Loaded (with the notable exception of his match v STONE COLD! STONE COLD! at No BY GOD Way Out) and who has been dragged down by being involved in the whole McMahon Soap Opera. Steiner also is a terrific worker for his size and can provide good exciting matches.

They had the best EVIL boss ever in Ric Flair. His promo about it being his WCW was genius. The whole Magnificent Seven storyline would have been killer if Storm, Chavo Guerruro and Kanyon had been put in as opposed to Rick Steiner and Animal. You could have kept them involved just not in the actual Magnificent Seven, just as supporters.

They had some awesome young talent like Lance Storm, Kanyon, Shawn O' Haire and Chuck Plumbo, Mike Awesome, Jeff Jarrett and of course the CRUSIERWEIGHTS!

Ah, the Crusierweights these were one of the things that really defined WCW, set them apart from WCW and for a while it seemed they were being used properly. What with the feud between Team Canada and The Filthy Animals, the push of Sugar Shane Helms, the Crusierweight Tag Team Titles, the beginnings of a feud between Crowbar and the M7 represented by Mike Sanders and the segments between Flair and Chavo suggested they were really going full hilt.

Then there was the touching reunion between Dusty and Dustin, sure we only saw it via a replay but the angle that preceded it was great, one of those true "Moments in History" . . Of course they messed it all up. They pushed Rick Steiner to the US Title, dropped the Filthy Animals/ Team Canada feud, lumbered both Storm and Kanyon with the Cat, dropped the Flair/ Chavo segments and a hell lot of other stuff and ruined the good will they had created.

So they screwed up, this is WCW after all, well that was WCW, their gone now, Vince rules now I'm SURE It'll be great. Before I go this is how WCW should have been booked these past two PPVs, this is how they should have done Superbrawl and Greed.

Sorry it's rushed but it's a little thing I thought up, and it's not really the main point of the column. The point is that's its a shame that WCW folded as throughout the year they showed glimpses of brilliance, unfortunately Good Wrestling Won't Save You're Company (It'll just bring **** ratings and Workrate Freaks). God I miss them all ready, Goodbye WCW although I never really knew you.

I'd appreciate any feedback, you can e-mail me at benoit_is_the_2nd_coming@yahoo.co.uk
