SUPERBRAWL III REVIEW

Hey guys, I'm here with the Superbrawl III Review. I recently picked up a copy of this at the video store and I figured, "What the hell? The dumb bitch at the video store put it on the wrong person's account, I might as well keep it and review it," so I decided to keep it and review it.

Advertisement for "Official WCW stuff." I actually decided to call up the number that went along with it (1-404-885-7168) and see if WCW still owned the number but it's now an answering machine for someone. I yelled into the answering machine "I want my WCW Stuff!" and then hung up. I wonder what he's thinking of that right now.

Promo for the Sting vs. Vader White Castle Of Fear Strap Match for the main event.

Match 1: Chris Benwot (As the announcer called it) vs. 2 Cold Scorpio (w/some funky black woman screaming music)
2 Cold does a standing 450 and lands on his feet. It's sad to see how far the great have fallen as Scorpio isn't even employed by the Big Three anymore. Benoit's playing the heel in this match. They exchanged lock ups until Benoit starts to pound on him. Scorpio goes off the ropes and Benoit nails him with a nasty elbow. Benoit does one of those great snap suplexes. Benoit nails one of those intense chops. He sends him into the corner but Scorpio flips off the top turnbuckle and turns it into a crossbody and gets a two count. He then follows it up with two quick dropkicks. Scorpio goes off the ropes and nails a nice looking spin kick that sends Benoit to the outside of the ring. Benoit stalls on the outside for a minute then gets back into the ring where they exchange wrist locks and do some funky flip outs from them. Benoit it able to flip him over and he applies an armlock and then a wristlock. To get out of the wristlock Scorpio grabs the ropes but then does a flip while holding onto the ropes and then nails a nice looking backdrop driver and works over the arm. While Scorpio's doing an armbar to him he digs his knee into him. He then locks his feet in Benoit's arm and drops back. Ouch. Benoit gets out of it and executes a hammerlock and Scorpio goes an Ace Crusher (AKA Stole Cold Stunner) but instead flips over Benoit head and they go off the ropes where Scorpio does yet another flip. Benoit goes off the ropes and Scorpio leapfrogs over him, then does a spinning thing, and then nails an armdrag takedown and Benoit slides to the outside of the ring. Chris gets back into the ring and they do a great looking test of strength where they do some nice power-bridge moves. Scorpio goes down for it and Benoit climbs onto of him. That doesn't look right. They exchange monkey flips, and Scorpio nails another dropkick and then an armdrag takedown and keeps then works over the arm. Damn, this match is great. I'd much rather watch matches like this then the Edge/Christian vs. Hardy Boyz Ladder Match which had no psychology. Scorpio drops a leg on his arm and they're back up where Benoit pounds on Scorpio. Off the ropes and Benoit goes underneath Scorpio and then brings him down and puts him in a double leg pickup by Scorpio kicks Benoit out of it and then nails a dropkick. He goes for a second one but misses and falls down on the mat. Benoit goes for an elbowdrop but he misses and when he gets back up, he's met by a big superkick from Scorpio. Another armdrag takedown and applies the armbar. Scorpio roles him up and gets a two count. Benoit gets out of the hold and knocks Scorpio with some punches and throws his head into the turnbuckle. Off the ropes goes Scorpio and he cartwheels out of the way but is met by a clothesline from Benoit. Off the ropes goes Scorpio once again and he nails him with a clothesline. He taunts the crowd and has some good heel heat. Benoit nails a backbreaker and holds it on his knee and keeps it on for a little bit. Scorpio grabs Benoit's hair to get out of it but Benoit gets the advantage and then nails a snapmare and puts a reverse chinlock on. He releases it and then Benoit puts on a front suplex and throws him on the ropes and leaves him hanging. Benoit then puts the boots to him and knocks him out of the ring. On the ring apron Benoit tries to bang Scorpio's head into the turnbuckle but he blocks it and Benoit's head gets put in it. Scorpio goes up to the top and goes for a Flying Dropkick but misses and falls flat where Benoit covers him for a two count. Another snapmare by Benoit and he puts in a reverse chinlock once again. Scorpio gets the fans behind him and he's able to get up so damn magically just from the fans support. Scorpio puts some elbows in the gut and Benoit picks him up in a bearhug type thing and basically drops him. Tony calls it "a version of the sidewalk slam." What a moron. Benoit puts in a Boston Crab but puts it much higher then you usually do. Benoit lets go of the hold and picks him up and then flips him over onto the mat and goes back to the reverse chinlock. We're not 3/4 of the way through the twenty minute time limit. Benoit picks him up again and nails another one of those chops and then puts him up on the top rope and nails a top rope belly-to-back suplex but when he goes down he hurts his head on the move. Once again, damn! Benoit covers and only gets a two count. Russian Legsweep by Benoit. Two count once again. Benoit goes for a back suplex and Scorpio flips over and nails a short crossbody and gets a two count. Scorpio sends him off the ropes and puts his back down and Benoit nails him in the back with his fist. Benoit then plants him with a powerbomb pin and gets a two count. Benoit goes for another Dominator but Scorpio is able to get out of it and go for a sunset flip but he hits the ropes. Benoit sends him into the corner and when he runs towards him he gets a boot in the stomach and then gets an enzuigiri to the head. "Two minutes" remaining. Scorpio sends him into the ropes and Benoit ducks two spin kicks but fails to dodge a clothesline. Benoit begs off in the corner and Scorpio pounds on him with punches and sends him in to the corner and nails a 360 splash in the corner. He then goes up to the top rope and nails a sweet looking turning slash or something and only gets a two count! Off the ropes and Scorpio goes for a victory roll and Benoit slams him face first on the mat. Slam by Benoit. Second rope legdrop by Benoit and only gets a two count. Fifteen seconds left. Rollup by Scorpio. Benoit goes for a German Suplex in the remaining seconds of the match but Scorpio rolls him up for the win at the announcer's time 19:59. Real time is 18:18 though. This match was just awesome. Simple as that. I watched this complete a second time just because it kicked so much ass. **** out of a possible ***** for this one.

"The Goon" Bill Irwin (w/o a chance in hell to win) vs. The British Bulldog- As I said earlier I had wrote a good report of the first three matches and then my computer froze up and I lost it. And I didn't enjoy this match enough to recap it again. I can recap it pretty damn quick right here. Bulldog does some shoulderblocks, knocks him down a few time, nails the big powerslam, then the holding over the head suplex, and then nails the Running Powerslam when Bill jumps off the top rope and he caught him. Time of the match: 5:46. And I guess I'll give it a *.

Eric Bischoff starts to interview "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorf in the back about his upcoming Falls Count Anywhere Match with Cactus Jack when Cactus interrupts it and runs out with a shovel and chases Orndorf into the entrance way.

Falls Count Anywhere Match: Paul Orndorf vs. Cactus Jack- Cactus chases him down all the way to the ring with the shovel and they brawl down at ringside for two minutes and then Cactus pulls up the mats on the outside of the ring and slams Orndorf onto them and then hits his running elbow drop. Two count by Cactus. Cactus goes up on the second rope and holy s--t, he went for a sunset flip and nailed the concrete floor and only gets a two count. Paul with the advantage now. Into the ring now and Orndorf boots him a few times and then clotheslines him. Orndorf rips into Cactus' mouth with his fingers then throws him to the outside. They brawl all the way to the back of the entrance way where Paul throws him over two guardrails. Hot damn. Orndorf comes over and they wail on each other for a little bit and Cactus sends him back over. Orndorf fights back and then ouch! He suplex him onto the safety rail and his back nailed the rail. Orndorf tries to knock the guardrail down but can't and goes back over and knocks his head into the guardrail a few times. Damn. He then works over his bad right knee and pulls him back under the guardrail. Paul pulls him by the hair and brings him back down to ringside. Paul is really delivering a nice beating. They get back into the ring and Paul nails a top rope fistdrop onto a standing Cactus Jack. Orndorf takes off his right knee brace and then suplexes onto the ropes that sends him onto the apron. Back in the ring, Paul chokes Cactus with his knee brace. He puts him in a figure four leglock and grabs the ropes to for the pinfall. Cactus punches Paul and breaks the hold. Orndorf clotheslines him to the outside of the ring. Paul slams Cactus' head into the floor and then slams his knee into the floor twice. You know, a lot of guys that wrestled at Wrestlemania I were past their prime at this point in their carreer, but Paul Orndorf really was kicking ass back then. Head first into the concrete floor and into the ring apron. Paul grabs the knee brace and whacks Cactus into the head and he falls down and nails his neck hard on the floor. He whacks him with the knee brace a few times and then whacks his knee with the chair a few times. Paul plays the crowd saying it's time for the piledriver but Cactus picks up the shovel and just takes his head off with it and pins him at 12:26. ** 1/2. This match was a pretty damn good brawl and I didn't mind recapping it once again.

US Heavyweight Title Match: Maxx Payne vs. Dustin Rhodes (c)- Maxx Payne, who later went onto be Man Mountain Rock in the WWF, really, really, looks like s--t. Nick Patrick announces that this match will under WCW Rules. This means 10 count on the outside, DQ in effect, five to break, you can't come off the top on the knee into the throat, etc. Dustin pumbles on Maxx Payne and goes to the outside of the ring and then gets back in. Dustin pounds on him and sends him off the ropes and nails a lariat and Payne goes to the outside of the ring. They stall for like 30 seconds before hooking up with Dustin applying a side headlock and Maxx sent him off the ropes where Dustin kicks Payne in the head and rolls him up for two and then nails an armdrag takedown. And Payne goes to the outside of the ring. Way to many times. He gets back in the ring and we get stalling again. Arm twist into an armbar applied by Dustin and they do this for a minute. This so sucks. Maxx pushes him into the ropes and puts knees into the midsection. Off the ropes Payne drops down and then Dustin ends up taking him down with an armdrag and then works on the arm until he grabs the arm. Dustin flips him over again and works over the arm. God damn, this sucks. Dustin drops his knees down on his arm. They get back up and Maxx drives Dustin into the corner and then sends him into the next corner and misses the big splash and then flips him over again and applies the armbar. This really, really, sucks. He brings him back up and Maxx eye gouges him. Maxx beats on him in the corner. Snapmare takeover by Maxx and then misses an elbowdrop. And what else is going to happen? Dustin works on the arm and then brings him into the corner where he pounds on him and sends him into the next corner where he's met by an elbow from Maxx. Two count. He pounds on him in the corner and sends him into the opposite corner and runs in, and runs right into a boot. Now Dustin beats on him in the corner and tries to send him across the ring but Maxx stops him throws him by his arm. That was the first half impressive thing I saw in this whole match. Payne drops a fist on the arm and then locks on an armbar (What else?). The part of the crowd that isn't sleeping tries to chant for Dustin, but it doesn't work. He puts him on the works and goes for the Pain Killer but Dustin blocks it by locking Maxx's head into his legs. He chokes him. Dustin punches him in the guy but Maxx knocks him down, not allowing him to get an advantage. Payne works over the arm on the outside of the ring and then gets back in the ring and when Dustin gets back in Maxx gives him a headbutt and sends him off the ropes where he's met by a big backbody drop. Dustin punches him again a few times and almost knocks him down but fails. Dustin goes for a flying bodypress but Maxx catches him with a slam. He misses an elbowdrop and Dustin mule kicks him in the chest. Kick in the chest again. Some more open hang punches and then nails the lariat and OH MY GOD he knocked him down. Oh my God! This sucks! Dustin executes a suplex on the big man for a two count. Sends him off the ropes and puts him in an abdominal stretch. Another resthold. Jesus Christ. Maxx grabs the ref and pulled him into Dustin Rhodes to break the hold and the ref disqualifies him (Payne) at 11:32. Maxx and Dustin then proceed to brawl on the outside of ring with each man getting thrown in the ringpost. DUD. This sucked. Really, really sucked.

Ric Flair (w/two beautiful women) is interviewed by Tony- Flair says a picture of worth a thousand words and Flair says he's back with WCW (This was after Flair's time in the WWF). Flair says that Whindam and The Great Muta are going to fight for the belt he never losed.

NWA Heavyweight Title Match- Barry Whindam vs. The Great Muta (in a real scary white ninja suit) (c)- The pre-match crap basically says that it's under WCW rules besides for the fact that you can go off the top rope. Muta rolls around on the mat before the match. Lockup with Muta going behind him and Whindam grabbing the ropes. Another lockup and they go back into the corner and they break it cleanly. Barry shoves him. They tease a test of strength for the first time and then the second one happens. It's pretty much even until Barry brings him down with it. Muta is able to get back up though and Barry nails a nice looking move where he sends him over his head and lands with him. Headlock by Muta and he brings him down to the mat and keeps it locked on. Barry sends him off the ropes and Muta shoulderblocks him down. Off the ropes again and Muta rolls under Barry and then nails him with a sweet looking spin kick. Side headlock and brings him down again. Muta gets a one count down n the mat and they come back up. Barry goes for an atomic drop but Muta flips out of it and keeps the side headlock on. Whindam turns it around for a rollup but only gets a one count and Muta keeps the move on. Whindam tries to do the atomic drop again but the same thing happened. Whindam gets back up and slaps him in the face and shoulderblocks him. Muta nails a dropkick and goes back to the side headlock. Whindam is able to nail the back suplex but Muta keeps the damn side headlock on. They go into the corner and Muta shows his tongue to us. Barry pounds on him in the corner and then goes for a suplex and Muta reverses it and nails a suplex of his own. Snapmare by Muta and nails an elbowdrop. Another side headlock on the mat. I've seen this move way to many times tonight. Once again Barry goes for the atomic drop but the ol' flip over happens again and he goes into a side headlock. Barry gets out and they go off the ropes and Muta misses the dropkick. Sweet DDT from Whindam. Kick to the stomach by Barry and punches him a few times and Muta goes to the outside of the ring. Belly-To-Back Suplex on the outside of the ring and Barry climbs back in the ring. Muta climbs back up on the apron and Barry punches him and for some odd reasons we cut to the crowd and when we come back Barry suplexes Muta back into the ring and gets a two count. Slam by Barry. He drops a knee onto Muta and then nails it again. Two count once again. Off the ropes goes Muta and Barry catches him in a sleeper hold. They do the two arms fall but one raises with the crowd behind him and Barry puts his feet on the ropes to help the leverage. The ref finally catches Barry and the hold is released. We're 15 minutes in now. Barry puts some punches to the head of Muta and the kicks him. Two count. Nice waistlock into a side-salto. 2 count. Barry throws him to the outside of the ring right next to special announcer Ric Flair's feet. Whindam comes out and slaps Muta and comes back into the ring. Muta seems to have a surge of energy but Barry drops an elbow on him. Muta comes back into the ring and they exchange chops and punches and Whindam rips into his eyes. Slam by Barry and he goes off the ropes with an elbow drop and gets a two count. Reverse chinlock from Barry. Muta gets out of it and nails a few funky punches, and then knocks him down with a Shoulderblock and goes for a sunset flip but Barry knocks him in the face so he can't. Barry sends him off the ropes and Muta knocks a move and Muta nails a roaring elbow I believe that was for a two count. Barry gets the advantage back and throws him into his boot (The boot is on the turnbuckle). Whindam goes for a piledriver but Muta backdrops him over but he hurts himself doing it and Barry drops an elbow on his back. Some nasty punches and elbows to Muta and Muta falls face first. Legdrop from Barry and only gets a two count. Whindam sizes him up and kicks him in the face. Muta blocks a punch and nails a spin kick but he's once again still tired. Barry puts him on the top turnbuckle and goes for the Superplex but Muta is able to knock him off and nail a Top Rope Chop. He sends Barry into the corner and does the Handsault Elbow thingy that Kronus used to do in ECW. Muta nails him with a backbreaker and goes up top. He goes for The Moonsault (His finisher) but he misses it when Barry moves. 23 minutes in now. Barry goes for a suplex but Muta nails a belly-to-back suplex. Muta gets back up and does a karate pose and nails another backbreaker on Whindam and goes up top and goes for the Moonsault but Barry gets the knees up. Whindam nails a clothesline and then plants him with a DDT. 1-2-3. We have a new NWA Heavyweight Champion! Time of the match: 24:00. ** 1/4. Flair comes into the ring and straps the belt onto Barry Whindam and then slickly leaves the ring as Barry celebrates.

White Castle Of Fear Leather Strap Match for the WCW Title- Big Van Vader (w/a real old looking Harley Race) (c) vs. Sting- Vader's got a fur coat on and Sting got a huge ovation on his way to the ring. I never remembered how popular this man was when he had the colorful facepaint on. A box comes up before the bell saying "Not Sanctioned By WCW." The stipulation in this match is that they're tied by a leather strap and that they have to touch all four corners in a row to win the match. They play a tug-of-war to start a Vader pulls Sting across the ring and plays the crowd. They play tug-of-war again and he hurls Sting across the ring once again. This time they go for it and end up nose to nose. Sting backups and runs towards him for a clothesline but Vader waffles him with a clothesline and then drops an elbow on Sting. This match is slow to start. Two minutes in and we've had two moves (clothesline, elbowdrop). Vader drops another elbow on Sting and then whips him with the belt a few times. Vader goes to the second rope and nails a big splash. Sting gets up and pulls the belt up and it nails Vader in the balls. Sting goes at him with some thunderous punches and Vader goes down. Sting goes to the second rope and then jumps down and knocks Vader down with a cool looking kick. Sting goes back to the second rope and comes off with a flying clothesline. Sting goes tot he ring apron and goes to the top rope and nails a top rope splash. Sting says he's going to do it again and hits it a second time. He then proceeds to start whipping Vader with a belt. Harley Race gets up on the apron and Sting whips him down. Vader rolls to the outside of the ring and is basically unconscious. Sting rolls to the outside of the ring and he pulls Vader into the ringpost twice and he goes down again. Sting slams Vader onto the floor. Sting hits one ring pose and drags Vader along. He hit a second one and when he was halfway to the third one, Vader pulls him and he goes right into the guardrail. I believe that the two he touched are now void since they weren't in succession. Damn, in the ring Sting nails a Samoan Drop on Vader. Sting goes to run into Vader but Vader put that big body mass up and knocked him down. Sting runs into a boot to the gut also and then Vader goes for the Power Bomb but Sting backbody drops him. Sting goes to the top rope and misses a top rope splash. Vader goes off the ropes and hits him with a 450 Splash. No, not the flipping one, he's 450 pounds. Vader pounds on Sting and then picks him up and puts him in a fireman's carry and then falls back. Vader goes to the second rope and nails the Vaderbomb (The thing that The Godfather does now where you bounce off the second rope). Vader whips Sting. Jesse to Tony: "This reminds me of you with your children." Vader puts Sting on the top rope in a fireman's carry and once again falls back from the top rope. Ouch. We're eleven and a half minutes in now. Vader hits one turnbuckle. There's two. Sting kicked him and the ref waves it off meaning they're invalid now. Vader stomps on Sting and sets him up. He goes for another Vaderbomb from a farther distance and Sting rolls out of the way. Vader gets up first and drags Sting over to him. Vader goes up to the top rope again and Sting pulls the leather strap and Vader gets crotched. Sting then hurls Vader off the top rope by the leather strap. Vader continues to pound on him even though he had just taken three hard falls. Sting fights back with some punches but Vader goes to the eyes. Vader puts Sting onto the top rope and then goes down a vertical suplex. We're fifteen minutes in now. He hits one, two, and three and he tries to drag him over but Sting locks his feet on the ropes and kicks Vader in the mouth, thus voiding the three corner. Vader pounds on Sting in the corner relentlessly. Sting's now bleeding from the head and nails a standing Vadersplash. Vader pulls Sting into him and Sting puts his foot up when he goes in and knocks Vader off. Vader's up and sends him off the ropes and Sting nails Vader with a few elbows and plants him with a German Suplex. God damn. Sting executes a DDT. Sting pounds on him in the corner. We're at the eighteen minute mark now and Vader's about to pass out it seems. Sting picks Vader up and pulls him along to hit the corners but the ref is down and doesn't see this. Vader's also bleeding from the ear. After the third one he trips over the ref and they both fall down. Sting is down right now and Vader does an off the first rope butt drop. Vader ties Sting foot to his hand and drags him t the corners. After the second one Sting grabs onto the ropes and after the third one he holds on so much he can't pull him anymore. Harley Race attempts to break Sting's hands off the ropes but they can't. Sting kicks Vader and Vader goes sailing right into the corner and hits the turnbuckle, this making him the winner in 20:54 to retain the WCW Title. Sting snaps after the match and starts whipping Vader with the strap like a mad man. It should also be noted that Vader is very bloody right now. Vader is able to escape and Sting's pissed and the credits role. I'll give this match ** 1/2. The match wasn't all that great but the fans were into it, it had a nice storyline, some nice bumps, etc.

After the show you get a chance to join the WCW Fan Club. You get a free hat, free T-shirt, an insider newsletter, and more! They tell you to call the same number from the beginning to get your application for the WCW Fan Club. I called him up again and yelled, "I want a Fan Club application!" and hung up.

I'm out of here, I'll be back here later with my Wrestlemania XI review. Make sure you e-mail me thoughts on if you like it at JOBSquad12@aol.com.
