BLAH

All Roads Lead, Not to Rome, But to Montreal

Another November is upon us and what does that mean for the world of wrestling? Starrcade in the Omni? Not for quite a while. Reunion Arena in Dallas? Just how am I, anyway? Heck, it doesn't even mean the Survivor Series itself. No, November in the wrestling business now means "Montreal" or "The Screw Job."

Last year, Vince resurrected the incident with the Survivor Series main event finish, where the Rock won the WWF title in a screwy finish over Mick Foley. And you can attribute it to that more to the release of "Wrestling with Shadows" than it being the anniversary of Montreal.

So, the calendar now says it's the eleventh month of the year and just what will happen at Survivor Series? And more, perhaps more interestingly, what is Vince Russo (or as we know refer to him, Copernicus, since the world revolves around him) going to at World War Three? In Canada? With Bret Hart presumably in the main event?

In Titan land, it appears that Vince just might be building to something that might hearken back to two years ago. But how it will happen (if at all) is up in the air. Will Vince screw HHH and give the title to someone else (The Rock? Austin? SHANE??) Will Vince screw the babyfaces (and the fans) and side with Degeneration X? Will Shane turn on Vince and rejoin HHH? Who knows?

A slight digression, if you will, as I take off my columnist hat and put on my booker hat. If I was "writing Titan's Sports Entertainment product," I would have had the British Bulldog stay a face and win the title from HHH when Vince rings the bell after Davey Boy has the champ in the scorpion deathlock. Take that, Bret.

Now, if we assume the WWF will do something echoing Montreal, we turn toward the less-than-August competition and ponder whether Copernicus will do the same a few week later on their November PPV?

Certainly, I think it's safe to say that Copernicus has the nerve (or as he would say, "brass ones") to do it. The real question is whether the other raging egomaniac has the nerve or gall or whatever to do it?

Would Bret be willing to dredge up "all those horrible memories" in order to boost buy rates or Monday Night Ratings the next day? Possibly, but that would probably mean missing another opportunity to exploit the death of his brother? What? You think he hasn't done that? Well then, I have a piece of the Calgary Stampede I'd like to sell you, to go with the piece of Brooklyn Bridge you already have.

Maybe Bret could "exorcise" those "demons" by winning the title from someone (Shawn Michaels stand-in Nash or Hall) with the Montreal finish. And then he could dedicate the win "to Owen's memory," as a way to get back "the man who sacrificed his brother in the name of ratings."

So, a month from now, after both of these PPVs are over, we'll see whether anyone has let history repeat itself. If so, then this might the most interesting November wrestling since the "granddaddy of them all" was the perfect ending for turkey day.
