REBECCA'S RANTS

Hello, and welcome to an extra special edition of Rebecca's Rants. I am stuck at my second job so I decided to bring the lap top and write it here. My esteemed colleague Joe is also stuck here, and since he is a bigger wrestling fan than even I am, I thought it would be cool to write a He said/She said column. So we will probably discuss the dreaded WCW because that's Joe's favorite federation (he can now say with at least some pride now that it is officially WWF II) and probably a little more talk about ECW, because Joe is the one who introduced me to the ECW, and I am very thankful that he did, even if he has crappy taste in other wrestling...and now we'll see if Joe wants to write a few words of introduction.

Joe here and I feel I need to explain a little something. I grew up in North Carolina, the Heart of WCW (formerly NWA) country, and as a result my biggest hero growing up was Ric Flair and I still feel some allegiance to the Nature Boy. While I will be the first to admit watching Ric in the ring these days can be somewhat painful, his skills on the mic are still near if not at the top of the game. It somewhat pains me to see the WCW has completely sold its soul for ratings but if it means more people to watching Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio and some of the other talent they have to offer I suppose it is not all bad. On a personal note I feel I owe Rebecca somewhat of an apology, I said something negative about Chyna and spent the rest of our shift together bracing myself for the low blow from behind. So, a word to all guys, don't mess with a Chyna fan.

Wow, I am shocked, I did not for one second expect an apology for his very chauvinistic Chyna comment, in fact I expected a far greater dig, now that I have given him an open forum to express his opinions. I am pleasantly surprised, and once again Joe has restored my faith in the male race... onto wrestling thoughts...

I guess I will start with the ECW on Friday night. I was very happy to see that the ratings for the TNN show are at least staying steady, and not dropping. Friday marked yet another strong showing by the best damn wrestling show on TV. Now notice how I said wrestling. In terms of wrestling moves, no one beats the ECW! Every single person on their roster gives 110% everytime they go out there. Best example of this for sure, since the whole f'ckn show RVD wasn't on, is SABU. Is there a highflying move this guy won't attempt? Seriously folks if you haven't checked out the ECW show, and you actually like to see cool high flying moves, please tune in. Its only an hour of your time, you can tape while you go out and get shitfaced with your friends, and then watch it when you get home, I guarantee your jaw will be on the floor. Did you enjoy the ladder match at No Mercy...this guy does that kind of shit every night!! Please check it out! End of gratuitous plug.

Ok, before I hand the computer back to Joe for more gushing about the ECW for sure, I want to quickly talk about HEAT. Stevie Richards is a really great find! The man is not afraid to do anything for entertainment. His Meat impression had me in stitches, but even better was the _ size Meanie as Prince Albert. I was very glad to see Meanie is still in the WWF too, esp. since he very obviously dropped the weight the WWF asked him to. Other highlights:

Chyna's comments to Jericho about why she couldn't wrestle were priceless, It was a great screw you to all the men out there who feel that Chyna doesn't belong with the title. Hello People this is Sports Entertainment, and Chyna holding the belt is good drama, it makes new and innovative rivalries...you know something we've actually never seen before!

Ok, I can get seriously used to a Jericho/D'Lo main event. These two already have a great chemistry together, and its just going to get better! Especially when it becomes a race for the IC title... good stuff...

Ok, on to Joe....

Well first things first, when speaking about the ECW you have to talk about the return of the Sandman. The move to WCW was just not good for either Sandman (never to be referred to as Hak) or the company; they didn't know how to use him properly and he wasn't able to do the extreme stuff he did in ECW. Now that he is back home I expect great things, he can't come close to competing with RVD or Sabu in terms of wrestling skills but he can take a beating like nobody else in the business and is extremely entertaining as just an idiot. I am really looking forward to the PPV, the three-way-dance with Jerry Lynn-Tajiri-Super Crazy match should be awesome. And anything with RVD in it is worth watching. But most of all I am looking forward to seeing RAVEN actually getting in the ring and wrestling since he is the best thing going today.

With the coming of Russo/Ferrara to the WCW, if anything maybe now they will focus on stories and stay with them for more than a week even if they aren't popular. The biggest problem with the WCW during its decline into mediocrity was that they would start stories and abandon them for no apparent reason. So, let's hope that we don't see an end to the Filthy Animals just because Rey and Kidman are faces. Another positive about the coming of the new powers is that Benoit (the second best wrestler in the world) is about to get the huge main event push he has deserved for a long time.

While I am primarily a WCW fan, I still keep track of what's going on "up North" and all I can say is all props to Shane. He obviously has no regard for his own body, I can't wait for him to double-cross Test and ruin the wedding. "No chance, that's what Test has in a battle against Shane.

Oh Rebecca...

As you can probably tell, Joe is a huge Raven mark, and he is the one who introduced me to the wonders of Raven. However, since I have become a Raven fan, he's been injured so I've only been able to see him on tapes that Joe has lent me. So seeing him in non-taped action should be a wild ride, considering the fact that he can't stop ddting his own partner and co-holder of the ECW tag team belts, add the fact that they are taking on the very challenging team of the Justin Credible and Lance Storm, and we've got one hell of a match. RVD vs. Taz should also be crazy, especially with the human suplex machine heading up North and already doing a lot of publicity for the WWF. Can we say RVD destroys Taz, I for one am looking seriously forward to this. Ok, on to the WWF...

I thought Raw started off appallingly bad, with abuse to women taking center stage. Believe me I am not a big ho fan or anything, but I certainly didn't enjoy seeing Viscera kick a woman, or splash on a woman, or bodyslam a woman. Believe me when I tell you Vince, we already hate Viscera...he's grotesque in everyway, no one is cheering for him, so its not like he needs more heel heat, and this is just a cheep way to get heat anyway. You can do better than this.

Why is Big Show stuck in this dead end angle with the Bossman. Let him get a hold of Bossman, beat him to within inches of his life, and let it be over. Yet again, another cheap attempt to get heat for a man who is already universally loathed by everyone. Why Vince, why. I have heard the argument that Soap Opera writers use terminal illness angles all the time, so what is the difference if it is used on wrestling...well there is a difference. As fantastic as a soap opera can be it is still somewhat based in reality. When a character becomes ill on a soap, it is taken very seriously, no one is sitting there mocking someone with AIDS or cancer. Please end this angle now. But I must say, I do like the addition of Prince Albert to the mix though. You gotta love a guy that takes such pleasure in his own completely frightening appearance. Plus I think he is a major talent who has a load of brute strength. You want to know something, I think he can probably bodyslam the Big Show, and that would definitely be a sight to see.

Ok, these two matches were definitely the low point of the night, with Moolah retiring a close runner-up. They should have at least let her retire as the champion because that would have made this whole month long fiasco a little more bearable, but no, Ivory comes out and gets the quick win...ok, now can we please get on with a somewhat legitimate women's division... please.

I continue to love the "mutual respect" angle between Edge/Christian and the Hardy's. I am very curious to see where this angle is going. I am hoping for something crazy like Christian and Matt Hardy win the tag team belts, and then any combo of the 4 can defend them ala the Fabulous Freebirds.

Ok, to pick up where Joe left off, oh so long ago, I gotta give props to Shane McMahon, the man will do just anything. The elbow by Test was impressive enough, but it was completely overshadowed by the cross body by Shane. The man knows no fear!! I have the answer to any ratings problems the WWF think they are going to have. Put Shane McMahon on TV every week, and let him just go. I would gladly tune in every week (I do anyway).

Why oh Why are they putting Kane with Tori? I have wanted them to put Kane with a woman for a long time, but I was hoping it would be someone else ...cough ...Chyna...cough. Not the bimbo airheaded Tori. But I have to say I am seriously enjoying Kane's fued with the Dudley's a lot. Just keep Tori away from him.

Ok, I of course have to address the reunion of DX. I have to admit I marked out pretty hard when I realized what was happening. A lot of people are saying that this was a panic move by the WWF, I couldn't disagree more. I think this totally came at the right time. Yeah, the NAO are extremely over, but they had lost their edge. They were getting a little stale, and how many times can they recycle the Kane/X-Pac story. I think that by reuniting DX, they are rejuvenating these guys. DX was the best when they were heels, they raised hell all over the WWF. This is a very good move for the WWF. I mean look, they've just reformed and already they beat up the two biggest faces in the company. My question is who's next? Kane? Also where does Chyna fit in? She was conspicuously absent from last night's festivities. Besides she is too over as a face to join a heel faction, but still she is already sorely missed. But wouldn't it be interesting if X-Pac decides to go after the IC title, where will HHH's loyalties lie? Also, now the Outlaws can start taking on the steadily growing number of face tag teams in the WWF, and we can actually root against the Outlaws. With the Outlaws being as over as they were, it was hard for any other tag team to get any fan support at all, especially when facing the Outlaws. It's time for great teams like the Hardy's and Christian and Edge to get their chance at the belts.

Ok, that's all from me, let me check to see if Joe has any parting words...

Well, let me start by thanking Rebecca for letting me come on and let everyone know that the WCW is not inherently evil and some relatively intelligent people find it entertaining. I certainly think the WCW is moving in the right direction, as long as they continue to push the right people (e. g. Benoit) and keep having Torrie come out in less and less clothes. So, I know there are other WCW fans out there, we just don't have the catch-phrases yet, but it's okay to come out and let people know there is another federation out there. Now call me crazy but, I have a dream today, and that dream is that wrestling fans across this country of ours can come together and talk with equal interest and command of story-lines about either federation. Because people let's be honest if we as wrestling fans cannot get along in a spirit of peace and harmony then we as a country are doomed.

And as for the ECW pay-per-view coming up, I really think this can put ECW over as a major player in the wrestling world. With RAVEN and Sandman coming back and RVD taking out Taz, it has a chance to be a great ppv. If it goes well and they follow up on TNN, big thing could be in the future.

You heard Joe, kids, go and spend your hard earned cash on November to Remember!! I can basically garandamntee that it will be worth the money! I would also like to think that opening up my column to Joe, I have helped to take the first step in bridging the gap between the federations, and eventually pave the way for world peace. Well until next time! See ya.
