REBECCA'S RANTS

Hello to all my loyal followers, all 4 of you.... and welcome to my rants, as usual this is Rebecca sitting ringside... ready, able and willing to give you my thoughts on the goings on in the wrestling world.

Once again, I don't' really know what to write about this week, so I will fly by the seat of my pants, and see what my magic fingers end up typing....

Well, I guess I will start off with the premiere of ECW on TNN. I have not really watched ECW before because it was not available in my area, but I have watched a Raven in the ECW tape, and read what I could to prepare myself for Friday night. Luckily the ECW presented a cohesive introduction to what they are all about as a promotion showcasing exactly how they are different than the other promotions. I for one cannot wait for the real action to begin, esp. with Raven taking center stage immediately upon returning to his roots. Needless to say I will be tuning in each week to see what craziness is in store, and of course to catch Raven. I just want to take this time to thank my friend Joe for lending me a ton of ECW tapes so I can catch up and see what I've been missing.

I have two small complaints about the TNN show...First, I wonder if an hour is really enough!! I found myself somehow unsatisfied, I wonder if its because I am used to the two hour format, but then I say well what about Heat. So I don't know. Or maybe because it was more of a highlight reel than a cohesive show.

Second: the huge amount of commercials got very annoying. Plus each commercial spot was like 7 minutes long. You do the math, and the ECW programming was really only about 30 minutes, or so it seemed.

Other Random thoughts:

Taz seems like one scary mother....his promo at the end was enough to have me shaking in my boots, but also very curious as to what destruction he will unleash next week.

Joey Styles is the most passionate announcer I have ever heard. When his voice cracks during an "Oh MY GOD" !! you know that something CRAZY just went down. If this guy can't get you excited about what you are watching, then you don't have a pulse.

All in all what I liked about this show is just how different it is from the other wrestling programs on TV. It can't really be competition for the WWF because it is almost like a different product. The emphasis is on the in ring work. The entertainment comes from the sport of wrestling, and these guys sure seem to put it all on the line to entertain, and you gotta respect that.

Now onto the WWF...

I just want to start off by saying Foley Is God... and I'm not talking about the Hell in a Cell match which they replayed on Heat (by the way I hope they do this something like this every week...each week they should showcase a classic match and talk about why it was so special...just an idea). What I'm talking about are his verbal musings, the not so subtle parodies, the sexual innuendo, and the fact that he can find something funny and witty to say about anyone.

His work with the Rock on this week's RAW was just brilliant. Now I know most people will argue with me and say that the Rock is the most talented on the mike, but I would argue with that. Could the Rock talk about "vague sexual tension" or "testicular fortitude" or "all of this talk about stroking and screwing is getting me excited". I don't think so... now don't get me wrong although I am not a Rock fan I think the guy is very talented, and I really like the pairing of him with Mankind, but the Rock takes the easy way out, he goes for the catchphrases or for "the sticking different objects up people's asses references". Foley looks at each situation and makes up something original for that situation, this is why he is the best. Both his parody of the Rock's schtick on Smackdown, and even more so on RAW, were priceless. He used it so effectively that when it went to the next level and instead of just using the Rock's lines, he was going for the Rock's finisher, I was actually marking out for the People's Elbow!!! And I'm telling you I'm as shocked as anyone out there to be writing this. This is all in the way of saying, I know that Mankind found his popularity by doing crazy shit like taking those bumps off the steel cage in Hell in a Cell, or by wrestling Barbed Wire matches in the ECW as Cactus Jack, but I am happy with just Mankind the guy who we have now, one half of the tag team champions. I wouldn't mind if maybe he easies up on the kind of bumps he takes... and sticking to entertaining us in other ways. I know a lot of people probably disagree with me, but I know he is not as young as he once was, and he has two small children at home, and his body isn't as healthy as it could be, and I want him around for a long time to make me laugh, because he does it the best.

Other points of interest:

Note to the Undertaker: Please take some time off...it was physically painful for me to watch you walk around. I mean I don't even have a penis and I was feeling your pain. We know you are a machine, and you have a high tolerance for pain, but when you start wearing your pain on your face its time to go home and heal.

I have to give kudos to the Undertaker for giving the Big Show the shot of adrenaline he needed. Although he singlehandedly lost the tag team belts last night, Paul Wight looked more impressive than he has since he came to the WWF. He was able to keep up a fairly fast paced match, actually two of them, he hit almost all of his moves, and sold his opponents moves really well. "When he realizes he's a killer there will be no stopping him". I agree... Side Note... What the hell was so important that UT had to high tail it out of the arena with Paul Bearer. Where they about to close down the all you can eat buffet at Red Lobster....

Who won't Terri Runnels screw? Side Note: I can't believe Meat had the "testicular fortitude" to cheat on Terri!!!

Speaking of women... I just wanted to say that I saw a women's match on WWF Jakked on Saturday Night. It was a match between Ivory and Jackie. These two put on the best Women's match I have ever seen. I was glad to see Jackie make an appearance on RAW. Jackie and Luna definitely deserve pushes over Tori who has not proved to me that she is anything but a slut who is willing to take her clothes off and show her very strange body and her nasty "ass" tattoo, and I mean that literally. Down with Tori... make the women's division legitimate again.

I have heard a lot of men on the internet calling for an end to the Test/Stephanie storyline. Well guess what, some people actually like this story line, and I know that it may be that the majority of people who like this storyline are women, but HELLO, WOMEN DO WATCH WRESTLING TOO...AND IF YOU GET TO SEE YOUR T& A CAT FIGHTS BETWEEN TERRI AND MARIANNA, THEN GIVE US OUR STUPID ROMANCE AND SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!!!! Take that time to go take a piss or something...or switch to Nitro and fall asleep from the sheer boredom of it all or maybe look at the reasons that you are so against this story line...could it be because you don't have a woman of your own, and you are jealous!!!!! Ok, I've gone on long enough.

Please end this current Al Snow angle.... I have never liked Al Snow, but this new somber and sober Al Snow just sucks. At least when he was insane it was slightly more exciting, ...and can't they see that when the music comes on and asks what does everyone want, no one is screaming PEPPER, everyone still wants head!!!!

The quasi tag team battle Royal on RAW left me hungry for more... and I ain't just talking about Christian's delicious new ring attire... although this definitely made me happy... but in this kind of setting no one was able to shine. One thing it did show was how strong the tag team division is right now. Give Mankind and the Rock there little run, and then unleash the belts back into the mix, and give some of the new teams a shot. They deserve it.

Where the hell was HBK? After shocking the world (well he didn't shock me!!) he takes the next TV night off? What's up with that? Also, HHH already seems to be the least hardworking champ on TV today. With his two friends in high places will he ever have to defend the title?

OK, a short column from me this week. Looking forward to the continuing ECW saga, especially the emergence of Raven as a major player, and of course I can't for Jericho's impending rivalry with Shamrock. See ya.
