REBECCA'S RANTS

Hello all, its Rebecca and I'm back from my wacky wrestling weekend!! This weekend, I got to meet best selling author and king of hardcore...Mick Foley. He was really sweet, and I told him how much we appreciate all he does to entertain us...he seemed genuinely touched by my sentiment. Unfortunately, I was unable to get to meet Kane, as when we showed up at the Harley Davidson dealership where he was signing there was a huge line of people!! But I did sneak into the Harley store, to get a look at one of my three favorite WWF superstars, and damn if the man wasn't an impressive sight. At this point I want to give a special shout out to Heather and Mark, my two companions on my wrestling excursion to tell them what an excellent time I had going crazy in Raleigh...can't wait to do it next month in Greensboro and hopefully in New York City for the Royal Rumble...now onto the rants...

First off I want to touch on the amazing house show we went to because I feel it is directly linked to the Monday night show...bear with me and you will see what I mean. After that I want to give my quick thoughts on the ECW PPV, November to Remember which I enjoyed the hell out of.

After having probably the worst pizza of my life, (Andy's pizza absolutely sucks) we headed to the brand spanking new Raleigh Arena, the site of the evening's festivities. I must say that this house show was better than both the PPV's and the RAW I've seen. The wrestlers all gave %110 and with the focus on in ring action we were treated to some excellent match ups...

Highlights for me included the hometown Hardy Boys vs. the Dudley's. Now it seems that the Dudley's have not yet caught on in the WWF, but man are they fun to hate. Bubbah Ray comes out and he goes, "you guys sssssssuck". These guys amuse the hell out of me, and boy can they wrestle. The Hardy's came out to a pretty huge ovation, and the match was on...During this matchup we saw tons of highflying maneuvers and some excellent technical spots as well. Which leads me to ask, where were these teams on the Monday Night programming...I mean what the hell happened to the potential stable of the Hardy's and Edge and Christian...instead the Canadian blondes are stuck with the "we couldn't get heat if we were doused in lighter fluid and near an open flame" Headbangers...Don't get me wrong, I like the Headbangers, and I wish they weren't greeted with dead silence when they enter the ring, but this is exactly what they are greeted with. Now I know that they probably put Christian and Edge with them to try and get them over, but its not working...and having them in this no-heat feud with the freakin posse doesn't help either. Now it looks like the same match we saw Monday will be the one for survivor series....I say boo, hiss to that. It should be the Holly's and Too Cool vs. Edge, Christian and the Hardy's. The chemistry between these four teams is a whole lot better than what we saw on RAW this past Monday. But I guess the WWF wanted to split up their two best tag teams to spread the great action over two matches instead of one...

Which leads me to another excellent match at the house show, a four way elimination tag team match between the Holly's, the Acolytes, Christian and Edge and the Outlaws. Now of course I am a huge Christian mark...but hey what can I say the man can wrestle. Anyone catch his match on Heat against Val Venis...if not you missed quite a wrestling contest with dare I say it, actual moves...but anyway back to the house show...the Holly's and the Acolytes were both disqualified early on, but not before Hardcore Holly did this amazing suplex on Farooq who he held up for a good 3 minutes before dropping him on his back, and if anyone has seen Farooq in person, then you know this is no small feat. This left Christian and Edge against the Outlaws. Oh yes I forgot, of course the Outlaws got one of the biggest pops of the night...hey aren't we are supposed to boo these guys? Hell, I was rooting against them. Christian and Edge were on the offensive hitting a lot of extremely impressive moves, esp. Christian. The Outlaws were looking good as well though, and this match was VERY entertaining. Unfortunately, after a low blow from the Road Dogg, the Outlaws of course pulled out the win. Now I am getting a little sick and tired of the Outlaws, and now they are once again the tag team champs. It seems like every time Mick Foley beats Billy Gunn's record, Billy Gunn has to get it back...but anyway, I digress. I feel the WWF need to give the belts to Edge and Christian or the Hardy's and let them just run with them. And if the house show match is any indication than an Outlaws vs. Edge and Christian rivalry should kick mighty ass.

Ok, while on the subject of Christian I just want to sing his praises a little more because I truly feel that he is the overlooked one. Even in the awesome tag team with Edge it is always Edge who gets the credit and the recognition and not Christian. Meanwhile, most of the time it's Christian who has the better arsenal of moves, and Christian who takes and sells the beatdowns...its time this guy got the credit he deserves and putting tag team gold around that beautiful waste of his would be a very good start.

I cannot convey how impressive Kane is up close in full costume. The security at the arena basically let us do whatever we wanted which was killer, and before and after each match we would run up to the railing where the wrestlers would come out from. So I was right there when Kane walked out for his extremely impressive match against Prince Albert. Now I haven't read much reaction to Prince Albert but I must say this guy impresses the hell out of me. There were times when during the house show match that he was throwing Kane around like he was a feather. That's strength. So it seems like Albert is going to get a push, and I am very happy about this, what I am not happy about is the direction in which the WWF is taking my man Kane.

First of all, now that they have strapped him with this sickening "romance" with Tori, he is suddenly once again getting his ass beaten every week. Kane with to many feelings = Kane getting his ass kicked. There is no reason the WWF should be doing this to Kane at this point in his career. If anything they need to turn it around and make him the crazy insane monster again, the indestructible one, this is when Kane is the most exciting. I mean at the house show during the main event of the Rock vs. HHH, HHH decided he had had just about enough of getting his ass kicked by the Rock, so he took off to the locker room. Who comes running out like a house on freakin fire, but Kane...the crowd erupts, he grabs HHH with force, gives him a few forearms for good measure and throws his ass back in the ring. The Rock takes control, and is about to pin HHH when who should come out but the Outlaws (much to my delight, X-Punk was not in attendance). Kane jumps into the ring, chokeslam Road Dogg, chokeslam Billy Gunn...Rockbottom to HHH, and the Outlaws quickly pull HHH out of the ring and head for the back. Kane meanwhile is leaning on the ring ropes looking like a complete Bad Ass, with a look, like "you want some more of me" . Meanwhile the crowd is going berserk, and not just because of the Rock, but because of Kane, and his kick ass attitude. Why does this not translate to his television role? And another question, why did they just seemingly drop his rivalry with DX, to put him in yet another rivalry with a guy that isn't fit to shine Kane's shoes, the Bossman. Kane is better than this. He should, as my new internet friend Lewis says, be systematically stalking and destroying different members of DX, and please start with X-Pac. I mean, last week it looked like he would be getting into a rivalry with HHH, possibly leading to a run for the belt, now this week he's getting knocked out by Bossman's night stick? WTF? The WWF really need to realize the huge talent they have in Kane, and start using him correctly. A good start would be to end this horrible romance angle with the bimbo Tori. Honestly, where the hell is the WWF going with this...she never accompanies him to the ring, and she seems to zap him of strength...she needs to go the hell away. I will plead my case one more time..."GIVE KANE A CHANCE AT THE TITLE".

Other Monday Night thoughts:

I have to say I feel really bad for "Too Cool" because they are truly talented, but their gimmick just plain sucks. Like my friend Sharon says, this "boys from the hood" thing is just outdated, not only that it is really stupid. These guys need a new gimmick fast, they also need some vignettes or something to reintroduce them to the wrestling fans. Bring back "Too Much".

I'm loving Test in the Main Event. I don't however understand exactly why they chose to write this story line in a week before Survivor Series. It seemingly has little or nothing to do with the Triple Threat match, and now that DX have kidnapped and sexually assaulted? Stephanie McMahon, I wonder where this is all going. Where do the Rock and Stone Cold fit into this? Whatever the reason, I am glad that Test has had a chance to shine, and despite all of the hilariously over the top interference from Shane and Vince in an attempt to make HHH pay, Test was still able to get in some impressive moves. In my opinion he looked a lot more impressive than HHH, but this isn't surprising. I'm hoping that his new position as beloved son-in law gets him lots of preferential treatment, and many more title shots in the future.

Stevie Richards serenading Chyna was so horrible that it was funny. I loved when Jericho charged into the ring with his new aggressive take no prisoners attitude. The brawl between him and Chyna was really cool. These two looked like they really wanted to kick each other's ass. Hmm...do you think Stevie is going to play a part in the match on Sunday?

I have to say as much as I hate the Bossman angle and wish he would go away, my sick side reared its ugly head as I found myself giggling at Bossman's "condolence" sentiments. Now at least this angle appears to be over, and we have a serious Bossman asskicking to look forward too...paybacks a bitch.

Why did X-Punk get a shot at the Rock? Who the hell deemed him worthy to go one on one with the great one. Certainly not I. And I have to say that was the saddest bronco buster I have ever witnessed and it was a travesty of justice that the Rock had to sit there and take it. Its funny because as much as the crowd still can't boo the outlaws, they seem to have no problem at all hating the little punk X-Pac.

I just have to say, I love the Holly's. I especially like Hardcore's strut to the ring, it is so damn cocky. He has to get the award for best makeover of all time. At the beginning of the year he was in the freakin Job Squad, getting no crowd reaction, now he gets a huge pop when his music hits, and hell I actually look forward to seeing him each week. And I have to agree with Jim Ross on this one, his dropkick is a thing of beauty.

I did however feel that RAW was lacking something this week, the opening interview was a little stilted. Stone Cold seemed like he really didn't want to be there. I did enjoy him throwing the microphones into the crowd though. And oh yay, Vince is the special guest referee for the Main Event. Vince turning heel is too obvious, especially with all of the mentions of the Survivor Series screw job, so what is going to happen? Honestly I don't have a clue, but I am very curious to say the least. I was also missing the Hardy's, the Dudleys, D'Lo and the Big Show.

Now onto to ECW thoughts:

I was quite impressed with the ECW PPV, as in my opinion every match was extremely entertaining. That's right, every match...

First up, was Taz coming out to scare the shit out of the ECW announce team, good stuff here, as Joey Styles was able to escape, but Joel "the quintessential studmuffin" Gertner was not so lucky.

Next Simon came out with his big "dick", in a hilarious Leni/Lodi/Too Much type promo, but ECW style...thus began a complete clusterfuck of different midcarders coming out and getting into it, all in all very entertaining.

The first big match of the night was the three way dance between Tajiri, Jerry Lynn, and Super Crazy. Plenty of crazy high flying action here, as well as some of the stiffest kicks I have ever witnessed. Its amazing that anyone agrees to fight Tajiri, as he seems to kick the living shit out of people everytime he gets in the ring. Tajiri gets two amazingly cool looking Tarantulas, and Super Crazy does a crazy triple jump to the outside of the ring. Jerry Lynn comes out victorious in this one, and I hope this is the beginning of his ascent to Television Champion sometime in the near future.

Next up is Sabu against Chris Candido. This match started off a little slow, as Sabu was a little distracted, but as the match went on, he definitely got more into it. Still, even being distracted, Sabu is impressive as hell to see, and Chris Candido was looking really good too.

Hardcore time, as the Baldies come out to face Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten, and later New Jack came out. New Jack is the one guy in the ECW that I really can't stand, but I must say his insane jump from a basketball backboard onto a Baldie on a table was quite impressive to behold.

Next was the match of the night, Masato Tanaka challenging Mike Awesome for the ECW championship. There is a special chemistry between these two that doesn't come along everyday. They know how to work each other and work each other they did. Mike Awesome hit this powerbomb from the top turnbuckle onto a table that blew me away. High spots, high spots, and they just kept kicking out. Eventually, Awesome gets the win, but both men were winners in this one.

RVD vs. Taz - ok, what can I say. RVD is the man, but so is Taz. My favorite move in this match was when Taz caught RVD's leg up over his shoulder and turned it into what else a suplex. Of course we got an awesome Van daminator off the top rope, and a killer split legged moonsault, which is just one of my favorite moves of all time. Of course Taz jobbed, but this was a really great match.

Now the Main Event - six man tag match between the prodigal son, the Sandman (who by the way looks better than I have ever imagined he could ever look, yes I admit I was drooling over him, and no I usually don't go for guys who bang beer cans against their heads), Tommy ( I shouldn't be wrestling, but I can't give up my boyhood dream of being a professional wrestler) Dreamer, and Raven (I don't care about anyone, and for some reason I enjoy inflicting pain and humiliation on Tommy Dreamer) vs. the Impact Player (their not just good, their not just great, their just Incredible) and Rhino (the rookie monster). After Sandman's 10 minute entrance, Raven set the tone for the match by standing in front of Sandman with the Raven cross symbol. He would not be overshadowed. I somehow knew that these two wouldn't be able to co-exist, as Raven doesn't want someone else to steal his thunder, certainly not an old rival. I liked this match because Raven was being Raven, and because of this his team lost, but it was pretty obvious that he couldn't care less. Trouble amongst the champs...what else is new, and I definitely smell a rehashing of the old Sandman/Raven rivalry...

All in all, I rather enjoyed my wrestling weekend, and although I was slightly disappointed in RAW, there was still enough good stuff to keep me looking forward to Smackdown. Thanks for reading my long ass column this week, and as usual I would love to hear from you. See ya.
