BEING THE BOOKER
A Main Event Hypothesis For WCW Through Starrcade

Anyone who watches wrestling secretly wants to book it. Many internet wrestling writers are booking the WWF as they speak. Unfortunately, the WWF is predicatable. Certain main events are already set up. It doesn't take much to book the company.

WCW is more fun to book. They still have a lot of talent, and a fair number of stars. They are more directionless and have no had a year-long angle in awhile. I respect the current writers; they have to deal with egos and events that I do not in the fantasy booking.

I personally find it boring reading the description of every television show. This is the kind of booking I like to read; it is therefore how I'd written it. I've briefly described the major angles and happenings in the top card for the top tier group of players, as I see it.

The reason everyone seems to want to book the WWF is because, for the most part, they've got all the guys that over over. HHH, Rock, Austin, Undertaker, and Jericho are all more over than Goldberg, who is arguably the most over WCW guy. The undercard that would have been the top card for WCW is for the most part, gone. First it was Austin himself, and now it's Benoit and Raven as the guys who could have carried WCW. They should be feuding for the WCW Title right now, if you ask me. In any case, I stick with the talent they have now, and I don't bother looking at anything under the US Title picture, and I ignore that most of the time as well. Some things just can't be accounted for over this length of time. Injuries, new talent acquisitions. I don't mention Thunder either, because if I was booking there would only be Nitro. I feel that fours hours of main TV has diluted the television and the product is more effective in bursts. WCW has lost a lot of talent, but they could still put on a damn good show with they have. It's also difficult to anticipate a wrestler getting very very popular very very quickly and deserving a large push. If anybody would care to see it, I'd do this for the WWF as well. I factor in a Bret Hart return at Starrcade, but otherwise all of this is pretty doable. Bret Hart could always be replaced by someone on the roster or another surprise star. World Titles Match are in bold.

We start at Superbrawl Revenge. Thanks for reading.

WCW Superbrawl Revenge:

Capitalizing on real life heat and the Elite v. WCW angle, Steiner v. DDP ends with Steiner jobs to DDP after Sting returns and hits him with a pipe at Superbrawl. DDP capitalizes with a top rope Diamond Cutter and DDP takes the strap. The undercard features the return of Goldberg, who is reinstated, as he destroys Luger and Bagwell. Feel the theme? Get it?

Television:

Nitros before World War 3 build up a Sting v. Goldberg v. DDP main event, with Flair as commissioner saying either Sting or Goldberg sold out to him. World War 3 is the battle royal for the title shot at Spring Stampede few television matches against Lance Storm.

WCW World War 3:

Goldberg v. Sting v. DDP in an "escape the cage with the title" triple cage match ends with both Sting and Goldberg blowing the shot, allowing DDP to escape with the strap. Scott Steiner wins the Battle Royal to earn a title shot at Starrcade by beating Flair and everyone else. He begins cutting shoot promos on Page almost immediately.

Television:

The Who Sold Out? angle is advanced further as Sting and Goldberg both think the other is working for Flair. It's Sting v. Goldberg with a no face turn and a special referee at Spring Stampede, while the main event is Steiner v. DDP, "I Quit" Match.

WCW Spring Stampede:

On the undercard, Lance Storm beats Mike Awesome to win the US Title. After Lance's match he cuts a promo, saying he's got a surprise for later. The Perfect Storm is coming, or something like that. The special ref for Sting v. Goldberg is Flair himself, and with Flair's help Sting beats Goldberg. Sting goes off on a post-match tirade, powerbombing Goldberg through the announce table and generally changing the character. His facepaint comes off, and he cuts a promo implying it will never return. He and Flair destroy Goldberg and reform the Four Horsemen, as Jarrett comes out. Who's the fourth guy? To be revealed on Nitro. In the main event of Steiner v. DDP, Steiner regains his belt from DDP by making him say "I Quit."

Television:

The Nitro after Spring Stampede has Flair v. Goldberg with a title shot on the line, and Booker T returns as a special opponent for Scott Steiner, getting a title match. Steiner retains early on in the evening, and Goldberg gets his shot next. Goldberg tries the Jackhammer, but the Horsemen break out. They are stopped dramatically by Steiner. Goldberg loses the match but loses because of Lance Storm's appearance as the fourth horseman. Flair says it'll be Sting v. Steiner at the PPV. Sting opens up Nitro with a shoot interview on WCW. He destroys the Nitro set and tells Steiner that he wants him at Great American Bash. Goldberg will wrestle Ric Flair in a return match.

WCW Great American Bash:

Our matches on this card are, notably, Sting v. Steiner for the WCW Title, Flair v. Goldberg and a tag team title match: Jeff Jarrett & Lance Storm (c) v. Booker T & Mike Awesome. Steiner retains the belt cleanly as Goldberg cuts off the Horseman attack to return the favor, and Goldberg goes over Flair to get the title shot.

Television:

Flair screws Goldberg out of the title shot, and Nitro sets up Steiner v. Flair for the title causing friction between Flair and Sting. Sting-Goldberg II gets going in a marathon match. The undercard is a match between Mike Awesome and Lance Storm for the US Title, while Jeff Jarrett battles Booker T.

WCW Bash at the Beach:

Steiner v. Flair results in Scotty defending the strap by making Flair submit to Steiner Recliner. Sting and Goldberg go at it for thirty minutes in a very well booked marathon match. Goldberg beats Sting with the jackhammer for the first fall, but Sting tests Goldberg's stamina as he gives him the Vader-beatdown. Finally Sting pins Goldberg after two Scorpion Death Drops, and the falls are at one to one. As time runs out, Goldberg hits the jackhammer but Sting gets his foot on the ropes. Goldberg pulls him away, but it gets two. With seconds left, Goldberg lifts Sting up for a reverse jackhammer. which is a suplex into a powerbomb. It gets three, and he wins the match.

Television:

After the pay-per-view Steiner issues an open challenge and Lance Storm comes out. Lance Storm says that since they had such a great marathon match last night, why don't we do it again tonight? InÑdeed. Steiner agrees and those two go for the last hour of Nitro. This match has its only fall scored at the end, as Steiner beats Lance Storm in a dramatic fashion, Hart-Austin Survivor Series '96 style. This brings Lance Storm right up there, as this match will make him at main-event status.

Fall Brawl gets moved up to August so WarGames can occur now, and then the next PPV becomes WrestleWar.

WCW Fall Brawl:

Steiner v. Goldberg, face v. face for the World Title. The undercard features War Games in the triple cage. One team is Flair & Sting & Jarrrett & Storm v. Booker T & Mike Awesome & DDP & Kevin Nash. Sting turns on Flair after forty minutes of this brutal match and the faces come out with the win, as Mike Awesome pins Flair. In the dramatic main event, Goldberg finally wins his second WCW Title.

Television:

Sting's turn on Flair makes him the face and they set up a career v. career match at WrestleWar. Steiner turns a vicious heel and punks out Goldberg, while Lance Storm v. Mike Awesome is a ladder match for a title shot on Nitro. Lance Storm gets the title shot on Nitro, but he's not sure who he gets it from. After the match, DDP congratulates Storm and asks him to put the title shot on the line. When Storm refuses, DDP Diamond Cuts him off the ladder to set up DDP v. Storm and WrestleWar. Steiner begins destroying everything in his path. Booker T meanwhile has turned heel and wants a title shot very, very, badly. He wins a match with Steiner on Nitro with Lance Storm's help to get it.

WCW WrestleWar:

Sting v. Flair is the end of the legend's career in the main event, as Flair taps out while in the Sharpshooter after a long, long match to end his career. Entire roster comes out and acknowledges his last match. Goldberg v. Booker T allows Goldberg to retain the belt. Storm d. DDP.

Television:

The Nitro after WrestleWar is explosive, as a battle royal puts the WCW Title on the line with Storm as the ref. Notable events in the battle royal include Mike Awesome Awesomebombing Sting and then delivering the apron to floor Awesomebomb. DDP and Storm feud, giving Storm clean wins over Page over several occasions to build him up for his big title shot. Goldberg ends up retaining the belt, and he defends against Storm at Havoc, while Steiner faces Nash.

WCW Halloween Havoc:

Goldberg v. Lance Storm: Goldberg defends successfully against Lance Storm although Storm gets many, many close near falls. Steiner v. Booker T. v. Sting v. Mike Awesome in a Final Four match goes eighteen minutes on the undercard.

Television:

On the Nitro after Havoc, Lance Storm wins his first WCW World Title in a ladder match. Storm drops a headbutt Benoit-style off the ladder and grabs the belt to win. Steiner starts tearing Nitro up again, demanding a title shot. His brother comes to support him, resulting in a temporary reunion of the tag team for a few nights. Lance Storm will defend against Steiner at Mayhem. Mayhem now has a Royal Rumble match, except it's called the Mayhem match. S'really clever. The Mayhem will feature thirty competitors and the winner will receive a World Title shot at Starrcade.

WCW Mayhem:

The World Title match Lance Storm v. Scott Steiner goes to a draw, and Lance Storm retains his WCW World Title. Steiner goes apeshit. Goldberg tosses Mike Awesome to win the Mayhem match and will receive the title shot at Starrcade. Booker T faces Sting on the undercard.

Television:

Steiner calls for his World Title shot on Nitro, but instead Commissioner Flair comes up with a different scenario. At Starrcade, the WCW Title will be defended twice. Either Steiner or Goldberg gets the first shot at the title, with the other man wrestling a suitable opponent. Lance Storm says he prefers Goldberg last, to prove it was no fluke. Steiner wants the last World Title shot on the pay-per-view, and says that he'll wrestle Goldberg tonight for that spot. So we have Goldberg-Steiner on Nitro. The match turns into a schmozz, as Bret Hart returns to give Goldberg a tainted victory. Thus, at Starrcade it will be Steiner v. Storm and one night only special Bret Hart v. Goldberg. Hart and Goldberg get a little something going as well. Awesome and Sting hook up again, this time in a Death Match.

WCW Starrcade:

Awesome v. Sting is a brutal match, both men are stretchered out. Storm v. Steiner at the 9 p.m. hour results in Steiner winning the World Title. Hart v. Goldberg ends in a jackhammer for a Goldberg win. They shake hands afterwards. Both Goldberg and Steiner, physically spent, proceed to the main event.

Goldberg v. Scott Steiner. Goldberg gets the spear, jackhammer, gets a two count. Goldberg lifts him up for a second jackhammer. Small package, Steiner gets two. To the top, as they fight over a superplex. Steiner pulls out a gourdbuster, but Goldberg gets up. Steiner sunset flips him, and powerbombs Goldberg out of that. It gets two. Steiner fights for the Steiner recliner, and Goldberg powers out into the jackhammer. Steiner flips over and rolls Goldberg up for two. Steiner sets up for a piledriver, and Goldberg turns it over and sits down for two. Reverse jackhammer gets a dramatic three for Goldberg. **** He wins his third WCW Title at Starrcade, avenging his previous two losses and starting the year anew.

Main event distribution:

Steiner- seven main events, win in World War 3 match. Three title reigns
Goldberg- five main events, win in Mayhem match. Two title reigns.
DDP- three main events. One title reign.
Lance Storm- two main events. One title reign.
Sting- two main events. No title reigns.
