BEING THE BOOKER
A Main Event Hypothesis For WCW for One Year

WCW has taken the downward spiral ever since they put on their last pay-per-view that promised better things to come. That PPV was Halloween Havoc 1998. It is no coincidence that the title match of the evening did not feature Hollywood Hogan. As we near the anniversary, let's look at the only way they can fix it the world title situation. The following people must be given their releases. Sid Vicious, Lex Luger, Macho Man Randy Savage, Scott Hall. The four that must go. nash will sit out until the Great American Bash. Let's start with a nice clean, Hogan job. Hogan jobs to DDP cleanly at Halloween Havoc via a top rope Diamond Cutter and DDP takes the strap. This leaves the following people at main event level: Sting, Goldberg, DDP and Bret Hart. Bret should be built back up as a killer with face heat. A “hitman” if you will. The relationship between Sting and Goldberg should be racked with tension. At World War 3 there is a triple threat Last Man Standing Match for the World strap that ends in a Sting victory over Goldberg and DDP. Bret wins the Battle Royal to earn a title shot at Starrcade by beating Hogan controversially and injuring him.

Going into Starrcade we have Sting-Bret for the strap. Also, Chris Benoit will be brought up to main-event level status as the result of a feud with DDP. Someone should perhaps write what Benoit says on TV, also. Goldberg starts going off and gets steadily angrier for a title shot. Hogan is brought back recovered from his injury to challenge Goldberg to a match on Nitro for a title shot on the next Nitro. At that Nitro a heel Hogan gets jobbed as Hart interferes on Goldberg's behalf. Him and Goldberg have words. Starrcade will sell like hotcakes. Sting-Bret is the most marketable main in the world. Goldberg beats Hogan again in the return match there, and Goldberg guest refs the main. In the main Sting gets pinned by Bret when Sting blasts Goldberg for not keeping Bret off the ropes. Sting pulls off a tirade, powerbombing Bret through a table and generally acting crazy. Sting opens up Nitro with a shoot interview blasting WCW and talking about a lot of shoot stuff. He destroys the Nitro set and tells Hart that he wants him tonight. Bret comes out with the belt and tells him, I've got a debt to pay. We then have Goldberg-Bret for the title. Hogan interferes to considerable heel heat to screw Goldberg, but Bret has words with him.

There is your main event for Souled Out: Hart-Hogan for the title in an “I Quit” Match. Then Sting and Goldberg can get their feud on real good, resulting in a forty-five minute Iron-Man Match. Once those two figure out how to work a good match, they can run a few of them. At Souled Out Hart defeats Hogan to defend the strap by making him submit to the sharpshooter. Sting and Goldberg go at it for forty-five minutes in the first major Iron Man Match in which falls occur. Goldberg beats Sting with the jackhammer for the first fall, but Sting tests Goldberg's stamina as he gives him the Vader-beatdown. Finally Sting pins Goldberg after two Scorpion Death Drops, and the falls are at one to one. After a ref bump, Ric Flair wanders down and puts on the black and white. Sting gets a fall off a cradle while Goldberg is distracted, and then time runs out before Goldberg can apply the jackhammer once more. On Nitro after the pay-per-view Hart issues an open challenge and Benoit comes out. Benoit says that since they had such a great Iron-Man match last night, why don't we do it again tonight! Hart agrees and those two go for the last hour of Nitro as the match earns the fabled but never seen six star rating. This match has its only fall scored at the end, as Hart beats Benoit in a dramatic fashion. This brings Benoit right up there, this match will make him at main-event status. The main event for Superbrawl bounces to the Hart-Hogan rubber match, this time going at it on a ladder. The match will be halfway decent for most fans and yet Scott Keith will call it a mockery of the WM10 ladder match. DDP and Goldberg and Benoit will get it on in a steel cage for a title shot and Sting and Flair in his retirement match will go at it after they have words.

Superbrawl. Hart and Hogan both grab the belt at that same time so no one knows who the WCW champion is. Sting beats Flair in the last match of the evening to say good-bye to the legend, and Goldberg earns his title shot at Uncensored. The next night Bischoff or a similar figure announces that all the World title contenders have been assessed and there will be a battle royal to determine the WCW World champ on Nitro. Goldberg comes out and tells Bischoff he better get his title shot. Then he puts Bischoff through a table, to my considerable delight. The contenders for the battle royal are announced as being Benoit, DDP, Hogan, Hart, Booker T, Sting, Eddy Guerrero with the eighth spot unknown. As the participants for the battle royal are introduced, the eighth competitor turns out to be the Rock. Actually, it's Raven. In the ring Raven attacks like a man possessed, and the order of exit goes like this: Hogan, Booker T, DDP, Eddy. DDP and Eddy get out together and get to talking. Their brief alliance breaks off into a feud. This leaves us with Benoit, Hart, Sting, and Raven. Raven DDTs Sting off the turnbuckle onto the entrance way in an amazing spot. However, they have both left World Title consideration. With old adversaries Hart and Benoit in the ring, Hart defeats Benoit by suckering him out on a tope. Hart regains his World Title. The main event at Uncensored is Hart-Goldberg, and maybe one of these days Hart won't main-event a pay- per-view. At Uncensored Raven-Sting occurs, as well as Booker T-Eddy in a ladder match. Benoit challenges Hogan in a match nobody thinks he can win.

Uncensored. By the way, Uncensored will be renamed WrestleWar. At this pay- per-view Goldberg goes over clean for the World title. Raven and Sting kill each other and nobody can answer the ten count. Eddy defeats Booker T for the US strap in the ladder match while DDP sits at ringside managing him. After the match DDP, in an apparent show of congratulations, diamond cuts him down from the ladder. Benoit- Hogan: Hogan beats Benoit in the biggest sham of a match. On Nitro Bischoff is so disgusted by Hogan's antics that he fires him. Hogan comes out and says his time in this industry is up, but he would like one match with Goldberg to see if he still has the stuff, to see if he's retiring on top of his game. he begs for face heat. Goldberg -Hogan goes down on Nitro, with Hogan wearing jeans and no costume. In his last match Goldberg pins him. After the match the entire WCW roster comes out and gives him a round of applause as he retires for good. Goldberg delivers an interview on the next Nitro that becomes semi-famous as his King of the Hill interview. Benoit bursts out and tells Goldberg it's his time. A real feud develops and Goldberg-Benoit occurs at the next pay- per-view, Spring Stampede which is renamed WCW Ambush.

Spring Stampede. Raven-Sting in a cage is the rubber match to that feud, and Hart guest refs the main-event. Hart allows Malenko to bring a ladder into the ring in this no- DQ match. Benoit drops the Flying headbutt on Goldberg off the ladder and wins the WCW World Title. In other news DDP's feud with Eddy means a tag team match: DDP and Bam Bam Bigelow (who is feuding with Kanyon as a result of a Triad split) vs. Kanyon and Eddy for the tag titles. Eddy also has to defend the US belt against Booker T and so DDP so wrecks Eddy's knee in the tag team match that he gets his ass kicked by Booker T. Nitro after the pay-per-view, Hart says he gave Benoit the strap, now he wants a title shot. Benoit tells him he has worked too hard, and he owes a shot to somebody that was pushed down with him. Benoit says he'll put the title on the line against Booker T. The Ultimate Warrior-Hogan match results in Benoit beating Booker T. The U.S. strap is then given to Eddy Guerrero, who promptly gets punked by DDP.

It is announced that their will be a Royal Rumble type match at the Great American Bash. Benoit will defend against Hart, Goldberg, and Booker T at the pay-per-view. Four corners elimination match with Texas Tornado rules. The Royal Rumble will feature thirty competitors. The notables are DDP, Eddy Guerrero (those two have their own match also), Raven, Sting, and in a surprise moment, Kevin Nash. Benoit jobs the title to Hart at the Bash, Eddy Guerrero beats DDP, and in the Rumble the match comes down to those five men. DDP and Eddy knock each other out, and Raven starts beating on Sting. Nash powerbombs Raven out of the ring and looks at Sting. Kevin Nash steps over the top rope and Sting has his title shot. Bret-Sting II will go down at Bash at the Beach. Raven-Nash is set for BATB, as well as Eddy-DDP in a cage. The Nitro will feature Sting jobbing to Benoit. Instead of losing his title shot, a coin is flipped. The WCW title will be defended twice: Benoit will get the first title shot, and Sting will wrestle Goldberg.

Bash at the Beach. Sting defeats Goldberg when Nash interferes on his behalf. Benoit defeats Hart when Goldberg hits Hart with a reverse jackhammer, a suplex into powerbomb. We call it reverse for the glamour aspect. Raven defeats Nash cleanly, and then in the main event of the evening, after Eddy-DDP's bloody brawl steals the show, will be Benoit-Sting for the strap. Sting beats Benoit to win the World Title. on Nitro Goldberg says he's going to run down the list and run the gauntlet tonight. He wants Nash, he wants Benoit, he wants Hart and he wants Sting. Goldberg beats Nash, beats Benoit, gets beat by Hart, and finally defeats Sting for the World Title. Goldberg holds the strap until Road Wild, where he will face Sting again. Also: Hart-Benoit, Raven- Booker T-Eddy for a title shot and Nash refs the main.

The enigma that is Road Wild. Hart wants Benoit and that goes down in wild fashion as Bret's leg gets “crippled” and so he can't apply the Sharpshooter, failing twice. Finally he puts on the Texas cloverleaf and Benoit spends a minute or so in a bloody rage before he taps. DDP interferes to give Raven the win in the title shot match, and Sting regains the belt from Goldberg when Nash powerbombs Goldberg. On Nitro Sting challenges Nash and Goldberg and Raven to a match at Fall Brawl. He says they will do it inside the War Games. The War Games will be each man and a man he picks. Only those four men can make the pin to pick up a strap. Sting picks Hart, Goldberg refuses to pick a man, Nash picks DDP and Raven picks Benoit. This should all play out in the weeks leading up to Fall Brawl.

Fall Brawl. Booker T and Eddy battle each other in the semi-main as Sting pins Raven to defend the strap in the greatest War Games of all time. Raven blames Benoit for the loss and takes it out on him afterwards, DDTing him on top of the cage. Benoit returns the favor by suplexing Raven down through the cage. On Nitro Sting-Raven goes down and Raven beat shim to win his first WCW World Title with Hart and Benoit's help. Benoit, Raven, and Hart reform the Triple Threat. Sting challenges both Raven and Hart for the title at Halloween Havoc, while a Spin the Wheel Make A Deal match between Goldberg and Nash results into a Last Man Standing Match.

Finally, at Havoc Goldberg performs the dangerous reverse jackhammer and then powerbombs Nash to win the match. Sting beats Raven and Hart for the title while Booker-T earns a world title shot by beating Eddy and DDP. And Sting enters the next calendar year with the WCW World Title, a year that will see Booker T become champion and Raven almost kill him.
