MY COLUMN

Hello, and welcome to my first (and hopefully not last) column. As you can probably tell from the title of the column, I'm not too creative, so when I took some time to figure out what the subject of my first one would be, I kinda drew a blank. So, I figured, I'm just going to start typing and hope I come up with something fairly coherent..

Okay, here we go.

I was pondering what the WWF was going to do with the whole Rock/Steve Austin/Triple H/Mankind affair the other day, when I came up with what I thought would be the perfect way to bring this thing to a logical and satisfying conclusion. I guess this would be classified as a little bit of fantasy booking on my part, but I think it could potentially work well if the WWF came up with something similar.

First, drop the three-way match at Survivor Series; bad idea and ill-conceived at this point in the angle. The main thing the WWF needs to do (in my opinion of course) is let this whole thing stew for a while before bringing us the payoff, which would be a showdown between Austin and Rocky. I mean, let's face it, that's what the fansóincluding myselfóreally want to see eventually. Unfortunately, this may involve some things occurring that the fans may not necessarily like. For instance, I think The Rock should be taken out of the main event the day of Survivor Series by an unknown assailant. We cut to the back during the show and see Rocky laid out in his dressing room. He's so badly injured, that he can't compete, so Vince McMahon decides to replace Rocky with Mankind. So, despite this minor setback, a three-way main event is still scheduled to happen. Finally, at the conclusion of the match, The Rock returns and attacks Foley, distracting Austin, allowing Triple H to Pedigree the Rattlesnake for the win.

The next night on Raw, The Rock comes out and cuts a promo basically detailing how he's now convinced that Mankind is the one who attacked him from behind and took him out of the main event so he, Foley, could get his shot at the title.. Without getting into too many specifics about what happens, Foley comes out and denies it, thus adding fuel to that fire, not to mention the speculation about who attacked The Rock.

Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H continue to have their own problems with Austin not too happy that Helmsley won the way that he did, and maybe even inferring that he and the Rock are in cahoots. Both men deny it, breeding even more mistrust among the four main eventers.

Re-enter Mr. McMahon. Ever the opportunist, he orders a FOUR-way main event for whatever the hell pay-per-view that happens in December. The outcome of this match will have the greatest impact on what's to happen at the Royal Rumble and, more importantly, at Wrestlemania. Steve Austin comes out on top at the four-way, again becoming the WWF champion. Triple H, feeling screwed as usual wants an immediate rematch. The Rock, feeling he's the number one contender, wants the first shot at Austin. Mankind, blinded by his anger at the Rock, doesn't care as long as he gets to go one-on-one with The Great One. Austin expresses the next night on Raw that he can pick and choose who he wants to give a shot to. Vince comes out again and says he's decided to have three-way (here we go again) no-holds-barred match with Rock, H and Foley on Smackdown. The winner will face Austin on Raw the next week. After a brutal match on Smackdown, The Rock comes out on top and gets his shot at the WWF title.

We're almost there kids, stay with me here. Monday night, The Rock is found yet again laid out in the back. He regains consciousness, threatening to lay the smack down on Mankind, even though this time, just like the last incident, he didn't see who attacked him. Unfortunately, The Rock's inujured too badly to compete, so Mr. McMahon decides to give Triple H the shot on Raw. At the conclusion of that match, Mankind runs out and attacks Austin, disqualifying him, claiming that he saw the Rattlesnake attack Rocky. All three men brawl with each other to end the show.

On Smackdown, Mankind cuts a promo basically saying that he's not too happy with Austin because he feels he's become the scapegoat in this whole thing. The only thing he wants is to be friends with The Rock again. Later, it's announced that the main event for the Royal Rumble will be Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock. The match is touted as the biggest main event in WWF history and is more anticipated than any match in recent history. As the match goes on, the crowd is clearly torn as to who they're rooting for. Now, Steve Austin is about to make that a little bit easier. At a certain point, outside the ring, Austin pastes The Rock with a chair (now keep in mind that this is a traditional, non-hardcore-type match.). He's promptly disqualified. But Austin's motives obviously weren't to win this match. He throws Rocky in the ring and proceeds to bash his brains in with the chair, then follow that up with several Stone Cold Stunners. The Rattlesnake then leaves, forsaking his usual beer-soaked celebration.

Now, provided Austin's actions at the Royal Rumble were enough to get him over as a legit heel, his appearance the next night on Raw will be very interesting. He reveals that he was indeed the one who took out The Rock on those two occasions because he likely sees him as the biggest potential threat to his title reign. And rather than risk losing the belt at the Royal Rumble, he takes the easy way out and demolishes the Rock in the process.

At this point, you may be asking, "well, genius, who won the Royal Ruble itself?" Ease off, man, I was getting to that. Mankind goes through the other twenty-nine men to win the Royal. Rumble, thusly securing his shot at the title at Wrestlemania. Finally, the main event for the PPV following the Royal Rumble is announced as a rematch between Triple H and Austin. Stone Cold pulls the same crap at that match, only hurting Hunter even more severely, taking him out of the title picture indefinitely.

On a Raw sometime before Wrestlemania, Austin and Mankind face off in a war of words, culminating in Austin destroying Foley with a chair (figuring out Stone Cold's MO yet?). Mankind is injured so badly that he announces that he cannot compete at Wrestlemania and will gladly give up his spot to The Rock, sewing the seeds for an eventual reconciliation between the two.

Austin doesn't like this, but his efforts to take out the Rock leading up to Wrestlemania are not enough to prevent the main event from going off. At the match itself, Austin tries every dirty tactic in the book, but The Rock overcomes and beats Austin for the WWF Title.

Whew! That's all I got. Yeah, I know it was rambling, and I probably left a few details out, but you can't say I didn't warn you ahead of time. However, if it did strike a chord with anybody, good or bad, let me know. I'd especially like to hear some of your own booking ideas, for this angle, or whatever strikes your fancy. All feedback will be well appreciated and, believe it or not, help me to write a better column in the long run. So, what do you think? Let me know already!

By the way, regarding the name of my column: I figured since I'm having problems thinking of a name, maybe you guys could give me some suggestions. Of course, that's assuming that I'll continue doing a column here. I guess it all depends on CRZ. Hell, if you like what I'm doing, let him know as well! It couldn't hurt.

Anyway, I'll use the best column name suggested by a reader if I don't figure it out on my own, and mention whoever came up with it in the column. Gee, what a prize. That's some incentive! So start emailing me, people.
