SHARON'S EDGE

Greetings sports entertainment fans! Geez, every time I take a break, something major happens! So the WWF has dumped Kat and her husband, the King quits in protest. I know it's been dissected all over but I just want to throw my two cents in! I got a note from former slash guy, the cool Crippler Hellspawn; he feels that the WWF made a HUGE mistake in letting King walk. This is where being a Libra gets handy because I see both sides-first of all, you know we haven't gotten the WHOLE story. Now the stories are spreading that the Kat wasn't well-liked behind the scenes-you coulda fooled me looking at her Katcam pics! It looked like most of the guys loved her!

Okay, Vince HAD to know firing the Kat would result in Jerry walking out. Any husband would if he wanted a peaceful home! (Then again, Gangrel stayed, didn't he?.......)Anyway, here's a provocative question-what makes Kat 'troublesome' if she questions some of her angles while guys like Stone Cold and HHH can book their own matches and that's fine? Okay, yeah those guys bring in big bucks for the company and I guess T&A is much easier to replace so nevermind.....Then we hear stories of Jerry pushing for more airtime for Kat and trying to use his stroke to get it-then I'm not surprised at Vince's choice. If Vince had given in to Jerry's demand, could you imagine how weak that would make him look to his roster? What would stop the next guy from threatening to leave if he didn't get his way? And to lose such a valuable guy too-right before the biggest PPV of the year? Vince must need a wheelbarrow to cart around those grapefruits-no, make them watermelons!

I was thinking about whether King would show up in WCW and at first thought it was a bad idea, but now that I've given it some thought, WCW COULD use him, not only as an announcer but as a creative consultant. Jerry's a legend in this business, love him or hate him, you can't deny that. Since the advent of sports entertainment, WCW has been like a boat without a rudder. They've hired businessmen to run WCW when they needed someone who knew wrestling and not in a mark-ish way but someone who's been where the boys are and doesn't have his own axe to grind.

Didn't Jerry have a hand in the creative end of Memphis Championship Wrestling? Didn't he help Andy Kaufman in their weird creative deal? (I don't remember that but according to 'Man in the Moon', he did!) He's been in the business for a long time, he'd be a valuable addition to Eric's staff! That is, if this sale ever goes through! Then again, Vince Russo thought he knew how to turn WCW around and we know how THAT turned out! Hellspawn also hopes this won't backlash against the King, a la Bret or Martha Hart. I don't think it will, King is generally liked, I don't think the average WWF fan will get mad at him.

So then this Monday, we see Paul E. Dangerously in Jerry's seat. It seems that most of the RAW reports were disappointed, they'd heard of Paul E. being there and expected, I don't know-Sandman to run into the hardcore match? First of all, I must say I liked Paul E.'s commentating. I was surprised at his explanation of how he came to be there and his shots at King. Well, I guess he'd be obligated to take a few cheap shots, after all the last time he was at RAW, Jerry ripped him a new one! Of course, it DOES make you wonder about timing of Jerry's exit and Paul E.'s entrance. But one thing for sure, with the addition of Heyman, the future of the WWF looks much brighter.

I'm still sad to see the demise of ECW but maybe after some time, Paul E. can get it started again. I certainly hope so. The golden days of ECW were when Paul was strictly in charge of the creative side, while his partner Todd handled the financial side. That's when you saw the infamous Raven/Sandman feud, the Dreamer/Raven feud, the BWO, the Sabu/RVD feud and the Tazz/Sabu feud. So his joining the creative team can only be productive for WWF fans. I look forward to that!

I loved Smackdown last week, especially the intense scene between the Radicals in the locker room. I watched that scene in awe, amazed that these guys were let go from WCW as not worth working with. Eddy was very funny on commentary too. And Benoit's intensity is matched only by Kurt Angle's! I was sorry to see Kurt lose the belt but in doing so, it's released a sinister side that's very exciting to see! For all the hype over a Rock/Austin main event at WM17, I just know Kurt's going to end up in there! He wants that belt back very badly! I say go for it, Kurt!

I'm not sure where all this humiliation of Trish is leading, I just hope she's getting well compensated for it! Rebecca had an interesting idea that she could be in cahoots with Shane and all this would turn around and Vince would end up being humiliated. Sounds good but we agree, the LAST thing we want to see is Vince, stripped down to his tighty whities, crawling around the ring barking! Now Rock...mmmm.....Oh I'm sorry, hormones stepped in...No, I really don't want to see that either. Then again......where was I? Oh-

I was very surprised to see the Hardys win those tag belts back! And speaking of hormones, can we talk about that big kiss on Smackdown? The way Lita grabbed Matt and the two of them playing tonsil hockey in the middle of the ring- I was like GET A ROOM! And now the two of them are making the rounds, doing that 'just good friends' routine..Yeah..sure..whatever! I say either these two are trying to keep things on the down-low or they're in some serious denial! Their chemistry is just a little too good and that affection looks very natural. Of course, I guess it was that 'romantic camouflage' they're both under! Poor Jeff, I think all that Manic Panic has seeped into his brain. Anyway-I was reading that they want to turn the brothers heel because I quote 'they've done all they can do with them as faces'! Excuse me? Were there some big character building RAWs and Smackdowns I missed? They've done nothing really with the Boyz! They've not been given much mic time-okay, they didn't set the world on fire with their promos but still! Go check out The best of the Hardys v.1 on RF Video! Both Jeff & Matt can cut good promos!

I was looking forward to a heel turn by Matt to go against his babyface brother-I mean Jeff's made a few mistakes these past couple of weeks. He's allowed Lita to get the stinkface (on my GOD!!! Was THAT a SERIOUS stinkface!! ) Then he sort of speared her by mistake! Granted-he didn't do them on purpose but I'm sure a few more will lead to Matt questioning exactly what his brother is doing. Whether these 'mistakes' were subliminal of his true feelings or what. But wait-that would make Jeff the heel, wouldn't it? Hurting wrestling's sweetheart, Lita? Yeah, the fans would definitely hate him for that..Nevermind that angle......

Onto the other guys, I've been watching Nitro and Thunder mostly for this Cruiserweight tag team tournament. I don't really care for Ric Flair's Magnificent 7 stable; I don't care much for the WCW uppercard anyway, with the exception of Booker T. I hear the Steiner brothers were a good tag team, but I've never seen them in their early days. I can only judge them by their act today, and it ain't good. I think Scott should leave the promos to Ric.

I'm very happy to see Sean O'Haire given a good push-forget Luger, HE'S the Total Package! He's a big guy with some great lightweight moves, not unlike Mike Awesome. But what's up with team Canada? When did Lance & Mike become Team Jobber? To think Mike needed Lance's help to defeat Hugh Morrus? No! By the way, doesn't Hugh look like Hacksaw Jim Duggan? I'm sorry, was watching that match and I thought I noticed a resemblance....Anyway, I guess since having Lance put the Cat over, that's been pretty much it. Or is it the old 'foreigners MUST lose' bit? Makes us Yanks feel better! No, I can't say that because the Jung Dragons have won their match! Dammit, is nothing black or white anymore?!

Anyway-I don't know, I'm not buying this Chavo-Shane Helms feud; I think it's because Shane looks like a heel to me! When I watched him against Shannon, he definitely exuded heel tendencies! But they're trying to convince me he's a face, even to the point of bringing him out with the Nitro Girls 2.0-wow, way to underwhelm me. God those girls need more practice! No, better yet, can you just keep them off the tv? I'm not sure what Elix & Kid Romeo have to do with Chavo though (new heel stable?)

Speaking of Kid Romeo-WHOAH!!!! If I can just be hormonal for a minute-DAY-UM!!!!!!!*deep breath* He's another good package! Could do without the cheesy Ricky Martin music but his match with Elix vs. Paris & Styles was very good! Those guys were crazy with the high spots! It's funny that Elix & Kid have SOME character development but Styles & Paris just let their wrestling do their talking for them!

Now I hear that EZ Money and maybe Kid Kash will be making their WCW debuts soon. I really like those guys but hey what about C.W. Anderson? He and Arn would make a great team, C.W. is so old school and talented! I've heard many ECW names tossed around, why not his? (I have to give Rebecca props for that idea)

I'm glad the WWF PPV isn't until the first weekend next month, it'll give the creative team a chance to develop some of the feuds that should culminate at Wrestlemania, THE PPV of the year. We have 8 shows, (11 if you count Heat) in which to do major build-ups, like the Benoit-Eddy Guerrero one. I love those guys! But come on, how obvious was all the commentating over Benoit's supposed glaring at Jericho, you KNEW he was glaring at Eddy! It was TOTALLY obvious!!! But that's okay, nobody glares like Benoit!!

Here some random thoughts-

  • How scary was it seeing the Big Show use the hardcore belt as an armband?
  • Why wasn't Mick considered as a fill-in for King? I think he'd be good!
  • Is this Al as Commissioner angle going to go ANYWHERE? Don't get me wrong, I love Al, but I'm just curious.
  • I read Chyna's book in one day-not bragging, mind you. I enjoyed it, she seemed to be very honest about her dysfunctional family and relationships. Even her insecurity over HHH's angle with Steph. And after reading of her dis by Melissa Rivers, it made me want to slap her! (Melissa, that is) The book was funny, interesting and quite an easy read. I went to my local library and got it, I suggest you do too. I'm not sure why Killer Kowalski is angry over it-she only said he was cheap and would hold his students back when feds came calling. (Oh, I guess those are bad things to say, nevermind)
  • I love this angry ruthless Christian!!! His heinous chair shot to Bubba, along with that 'Edge says whassup!' line was classic!! I'm glad he's not being held back due to Edge's injury.
  • Yeah, Kane & D-Von were cute but how good was Taker's reaction to Kane doing the whassup spot?
  • Okay, what hospital was Miss Jones in? Not only did they ignore her cries for a nurse but 2 grown men crashing around a hospital room was totally missed! Oh yeah, that's a fine medical institution! Must be #1 with the donor's lists! Then again, by the time they discovered you, your organs would be past use!
  • I heard an interesting idea that Vince was using the humiliations of Trish to vent his frustrations over the XFL! Hmm....
  • Cameras in the XFL cheerleaders' locker rooms? Smell that? It's the whiff of desperation...sad, Vince, very sad. Even sadder....probably bring in BIG ratings..

On that note, I'm outta here! Until next time......
