SHARON'S EDGE

Greetings, sports entertainment fans! Well, with Rebecca unable to do her rants this week, she has entrusted me to represent for the both of us- which is no problem. Well, she watched Nitro this week and was slightly impressed. I did not watch so I'm not passing  judgment, only to say I've read mostly glowing reports all over the 'net. It seems that a lot of you were psyched with the changes and seem really optimistic that WCW will not only catch up to the WWF but surpass it. I do like our esteemed CRZ taking a wait and see attitude about it all-it's called cautious optimism. I truly hope they do keep it up because something has got to light a fire under Vince McMahon's ass.

This week's RAW, while I enjoyed some of it, was truly tiresome. Now I'm one of the biggest Rock marks out there but we did not need a 10 minute tirade from him then 10 more minutes of Vince jabbering about 'feshees'-geez, did anyone go over the script with him beforehand? I did like his reason for turning on the Rock but it could've been done much better. Vince's ego is spiraling out of control, like I said last week, this is truly a case of be careful what you wish for. Vince's absence was felt-we even had signs that said 'Come Back Vince'. Did you notice now there are 'Go Away Vince' signs? (On the subject of signs, I read that the WWF was taking away people's signs that mentioned WCW or Nitro but I distinctly remember seeing a 'I'd Rather Be At Nitro' and a 'WCW sucks' sign-they were right in the camera view so that report was wrong).

You know, Vince, if it weren't for your talented roster, I would've turned off my tv. Stop pushing yourself and the family-let's put the focus back on the wrestlers! Please! We didn't need to see you in the beginning, middle and end of the program! Get that belt off of your daughter! And just where is Linda? How about Mick? We saw more tributes after his first retirement-now that he's really gone, it's like he just fell off the face of the earth! After that nasty bump he took at WM16, we'd like to know if he's doing OK. Just an interview to let us know what he's up to-is that too much to ask?

Anyway, while I'm in a bitchy ranting mood, let's talk about what sucked at RAW- sitting through
Road Dogg's increasingly pointless mic work-('two tears in a bucket?') I actually heard one of the guys at WWF.com say what a great team RD and X-puke are, even better than the NAO! But then this guy also thinks Billy Gunn will be a breakout star one day so I don't know what to say. Yes I do- I think they all suck! Well, not Billy, he just sucks on the mic. But these fake Outlaws do nothing for me and to see them almost walk away with the tag team belts just reinforce the notion that both of these guys are doing some serious ass-kissing in the back! Thank goodness for Earl Hebner!

That said, I don't really like the idea of Earl Hebner coming out to show the official ref that the match had interference-only because they don't make that a regular thing! Why didn't he come out for the Y2J/Eddy match after Chyna interfered? Well, I guess I better stop looking for logic and just concentrate on the entertainment, huh?  Anyway, I'm glad that 2Blonde kept those belts and even happier that neither of them had to suffer a bronco buster. But I don't get why the Dudleys and the Hardys haven't been stalking them to get those belts back-don't they want to be tag team champs again? They don't have to have matches-how about all three teams cutting some vicious promos on each other? Oh wait, I guess that will interfere with Vince talking about 'feshees' again.

I also didn't get the point of Tazz being with Scotty & Rikishi-I guess it was to have him mix it up with Perry Saturn a little more but the point is he never got tagged in! I would've had Stevie Richards come out dressed like Grandmaster Sexay, it would've been amusing to see him dancing up there with Too Cool. I mean for all the use Tazz got in that match, why not? And let's not even get into the main event-I was ready to fling my tv out of the window! What the hell was that? I am so sick of these team beatdowns of the Rock-I understand it really establishes him as the underdog, but all it does is piss me off. And what was he wearing a blood squib? Or did he open an artery? That was gross and totally ridiculous!

OK, enough negativity, let's go with the good stuff- I really like the pairing up of Chyna & Eddy.
It's damn nice to see a man worshipping a woman on tv and these two look like they're having a great time. I really like the way Chyna has evolved from a stoic bodyguard to this sexy fun loving woman. And if the day comes that the Radicals decide they want to return to WCW, I really hope Eddy stays in the WWF-he's got the skills and charisma to go far! It was good seeing the Hardys back in action but I've heard that Jeff hurt his back at WM16 and he did seem like he was bumping on his side more. And as stiff as T & A were, damn, I knew that didn't help-both Jeff and Matt were tossed around like rag dolls! These poor guys hurt themselves and then can't take time to heal-like I keep saying, they can cut promos, they don't have to work! I'd rather see these guys go away and come back fully healed then keep working until they end up like Tommy Dreamer.

The highlight of the night was the Taka/HHH match- I really enjoy Taka's work-the man is awesome! And while I knew he wouldn't walk away with the title, he put on a great match! Glad to see Taka getting more tv time, he deserves it. I also loved seeing APA out there-Farooq & Bradshaw can do no wrong in my book. I enjoy their little vignettes but I love when they're kicking ass! The one reason I enjoyed seeing them punked out by the B.B.s (Boss & Bull) was knowing that the APA is going to annihilate them! Also, Paul Wight was amusing and let me add my name to the growing list of people who'd like to see Stevie Richards paired up with him. And toss in the Blue Meanie- they would be a great comical trio.

All in all, this has been a lackluster time for the WWF. I think Vince has been so used to dominating, he's getting lazy. Well, hopefully they've noticed what WCW did this week and  step it up-after all, there's another PPV on the horizon.......

Random Thoughts

  • Rikishi's ass or Mark Madden's body? What a choice-which made you lunge for the remote faster, CRZ? (I've learned to gut it out - no pun intended ;-) - CRZ)
  • What self respecting hairdresser would leave himself open for a lawsuit like this guy who ruined Kat did? Please don't tell me there's going to be a catfight at Backlash too. Please!
  • Hey, was that the Corporation I saw at the end of RAW?
  • Rock, 'lick a llama's anus' is NOT a good catchphrase-I don't even want to picture the t-shirt. Drop it please!
  • Kurt Angle has really grown on me. I loved the promo this week-'you can sing, you can dance, but when it comes to relations, keep it in your pants'. Classic....
  • Damn, not only is D'Lo doing dark matches, but he's fighting the Mean St. Posse. Oh boy, he really pissed somebody off! You know this makes me wonder if those rumors of him defecting to WCW were true. Sounds like he's getting spanked for something.
  • Mae & Mark have decided to date other people-thank you God! Maybe it's time to put him & D'Lo back together.
  • Hey didn't Russo say he wouldn't be on tv? Oh, wait, that's right, it's a 'new era' so things said in the past don't count. And being on camera works so well for Vince McMahon.........
  • I'm truly sad to hear about Chyna & HHH breaking up and I've noticed since Chyna announced she was single, he and Steph don't seem quite so chummy anymore....
Well, that's it for me, I'm taking my ball and going home now....................

Until next time,
Sharon
