SHARON'S EDGE

Greetings again, sports entertainment fans! Welcome to my little corner of the wrestling world. I want to thank Mr. T, Rebecca and Marvellous Martin, my fellow slashers here, for their feedback to my column. I was having a pity party for myself but I'm better now. Well, so much has happened this week-let's discuss, shall we? I was totally blown away by the news of Russo's demotion in WCW! And I was loving every minute of it, that is, until T reminded me that this could all be a work. I thought about it and he's right, let me explain- Russo played to the Internet 'smarks' out there and upon all the growing disappointment with where he's taking the company-poof he's gone?
The news that R&F jumped ship to a rival company was trumpeted all over the Net, it evolved into an angle on the show and the WCW Live guys championed R&F (well, Russo) as the savior of the company. Now they've totally reversed their stance? They predicted stomping down the WWF's ratings in record time, now they don't care about ratings??? Personally, I think it was a case of them finally noticing that the emperor has no clothes! Or maybe with the breakup of his marriage, Ted Turner finally turned on his 'rasslin' show and almost choked on his cigar.
Now I'm supposed to feel sorry for Russo because he uprooted his family and now he's a man without a company. Oh boo hoo! Please...if Russo hadn't believed his hype, he wouldn't be in this predicament. He was given all the credit for the WWF's success, believed it,  sold himself as a genius and hyped that he would apply his 'golden touch' to the WCW. Then he bragged about his new salary in excuse for he was doing. If he hadn't let his ego rule his mouth, this fall from grace wouldn't be so satisfying.  If the coup hadn't been so public, the failure wouldn't be so public. But before I sip that champagne, I'll wait and see what happens. OK, enough ranting....
Anyway-the Royal Rumble is coming up this weekend  and I, for one, am looking forward to the end of the 'Helmsley-McMahon error'. Although it's made some interesting matches, I'm kind of tired of the DX run-ins. I love HHH and the chemistry between him and Steph improves with every show but the other guys are just wasted. Xpuke seems to be the only one in full heel-mode while the NAO are still playing to the crowd. Just split them up and let them go on about their business. Let's look at the upcoming matches-

  • Chyna/Bob Holly/ Chris Jericho in a 3-way dance for the IC belt- This is the third PPV in a row that Chyna has faced Jericho so they decided to include Bob this time, which ought to spice things up a little. I really can't get over how far Bob Holly has come! I couldn't stand this guy but now he and his little 'Elroy Jetson' cousin  have grown on me. I'm a big fan of Chyna but I think this match will finally see her lose the belt. This may elevate Jericho and end his feud with Chyna so I'm thinking Bob Holly will be your new IC champ. Winner: Bob Holly
  • New Age Outlaws vs. the Acolytes, Tag Team Champion Match- So after months of proving the Acolytes are tough as nails, they have DX beat on them therefore negating their toughness. Come on! Now this is a match Faarooq and Bradshaw could do with their hands tied behind their back! But then, I guess they're trying to prove J.R.'s that NAO is the 'best tag team in WWF history'. *cough bull---- cough*  I'm looking forward to this being a grand beat down with the Acolytes getting sweet revenge. Winners: Acolytes
  • First Ever Tag Team Table Match, The Dudleys vs. The Hardyz- After that awesome double slam through the table Bubba Ray gave Matt & Jeff Hardy this week-prompting chants of 'ECW!' in the crowd, I'm putting my money on the Dudleys. They outweigh the Hardys and this is one of their specialities-I love the Hardys but I think the Dudleys will come out on top. Winner: the Dudleys
  • Kurt Angle vs. ?- Boy, Vince must have great faith in Kurt Angle to feature him in a PPV again. I've read rumors that Kurt's opponent will be Steve Blackman. Steve got a good pop when he went up against Kurt before but I think if HHH really wants to break that undefeated streak, he'd put him against Rikishi or Big Show! Winner: Kurt Angle
  • Terri/Kat/Ivory/BB/Jackie/Luna/Tori/Mae Young, Miss Royal Rumble Swimsuit Competition- Oh please!!!!! First Ever-I hope this is the last ever! How degrading. Why is the women's division such a joke? I read a column (fortunately not on CRZ.net) that stated 'the WWF better promise a peek at BB's puppies if they want male fans to buy this PPV!'- I really hope you men out there aren't buying a PPV on that premise. (Please tell me you're not!) I really wish Vince would let these women just wrestle. I know that Lucas and some of the guys aren't keen on women in the ring, unless they just stand around and look good. I remember Jackie being very proud of being listed in the PWI-now we barely see her and when we do, it's gimmick time. It's like a vicious cycle-the less wrestling the women do, the less you want to see them wrestle! You have enough eye candy-how about some talent?!
  • Cactus Jack vs. HHH, WWF Championship match- This should be a great match, especially with HHH promising to match Jack's craziness. I predict this match will make HHH's match with Vince last PPV look like a lovefest. Hard, long and bloody with I predict, a run in from DX-resulting in a HHH win. But I'm not worried, there's still time enough for Mick to headline Wrestlemania 2000!
  • As for the Royal Rumble, the Rock is very sure he has it sewn up which is why I doubt it. Again, I've read rumors that this year's winner wouldn't necessarily go for the big belt at WM2000 and there are a quite a few RAWs and Smackdowns to happen before then so I predict a swerve. I'd love to see Kane standing alone in the ring!
There's my predictions. Now onto some random thoughts:
  • I read about the Rock's run-in with Opie & Anthony and I'll say this in his defense- if you run a website, you ARE responsible for what's on it. I know a girl who runs an Xpuke site and if she doesn't like what you post-she deletes it. I don't necessarily support censorship but I would think if it's posted, that means I condone it. I'd love CRZ to address this-if a columnist wrote a hateful, bigoted column, would you post it? (Maybe - depends on a lot of other things. - CRZ) If you did, wouldn't you say it would reflect upon your site? (Not necessarily. See Heather's column for another opinion. - CRZ)
  • By the way, I read the Rock's book and it's very good. No, it's not the same as Mick's book and no he didn't write it himself-so what! According to Shane Douglas, Mick seems to have a selective memory (hey after all those chair shots, I'm not surprised!)  I'm tired of all the bashing Rock's getting over this. The only time the book hits a snag is when the character of the Rock is 'speaking' but Dwayne gives big props to Stone Cold & Undertaker, as well as Bret and Owen Hart. Despite his young life, he's been through a lot and I'm glad for his success! As for him not being in the business long enough to have written this book, walk through a bookstore sometime. The last time I was there, the pop cultures section had books on the Backstreet Boys, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lauryn Hill, and the Spice Girls! Even one of the Backstreet Boys' little brother is having a biography published! Actually I'm glad about the success of the Rock and Mick's books, maybe this will help change the sterotype of wrestling!
  • Ok, what the heck is this-the ho's blow off (really, no pun intended) Christian, while going off with Edge? Hey I love Edge-this column is named after him but Christian isn't a troll! Is this leading to a breakup of the 2blonde brothers? Well, if this leads to Chris developing more of a personality and getting a decent push-good! But if this leads to Edge's push while Chris fades to the background-thumbs down!! Boo! Hiss!
  • I seem to recall Michael Cole mentioning a video (hmm..GTV?) of Tori's holiday with Xpuke-can we see it please and end this ridiculous "I'll get my boyfriend to beat you up' story??!!! Kane, Kane, Kane, I think I preferred you as a big red machine. (Where is your big brother? He'll straighten you out!)
Well, that's it for me, sports fans. I'm taking my ball and going home now..
Feedback is encouraged, appreciated and answered.
         Until next time, dear readers..............
