SHARON'S EDGE 2K

Welcome to the new millennium, sports entertainment fans! (OK, we could debate over the actual date but this is not the place!) Well, the Y2K bug has come and gone and we're all still here-come out of your bunkers and start cooking up that stored food, the world didn't end. Oh well. The world of wrestling goes on......This past week I watched a few videos-Wrestlemania 12, Summer Slam 1996, and the new Chyna/HHH "It's Our Time"-all were interesting and left me wondering about a few things:

WM12 featured an hour-long 'Iron Man' match between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels-I wondered if today's short attention span wrestling fan would appreciate an hour long match between anybody. At SummerSlam '96 there was a long match between HBK and Vader-again, would today's fan be into it? I came into the wrestling game after the advent of Crash TV but I enjoyed it! The matches were exciting and emphasized the technical skill.

As for "It's Our Time", it was interesting seeing HHH go in and out of character. It was also funny to see how Chyna seems to be in control of their relationship. The only complaint I have is, while showing clips of their match for the #1 contendership, they didn't have them comment on how they prepared to fight each other or what it was like. I thought that would've been something to talk about. I also liked that Chyna felt that wrestling encompassed 80% of their relationship and that if they weren't both in the business, would they even be together. For the most part, Chyna was completely serious while HHH was a bit of a goofball. Anyway, it's a good video-check it out!

Well, the first RAW of the Millennium has come and gone and-well, I was waiting for Tazzzzzzz's debut, Undertaker, Shamrock, Shane and Vince to return but none of this happened. While it was still a good show, I'm still looking forward to Vince putting a stop to this McMahon/Helmsley era. Although, I'm also thinking now that HHH has that Championship belt, he may find he no longer needs his wife or DX. It was also amusing to see the old DX parody skits return-although politically incorrect, I found myself laughing out loud at HHH as 'Dr. Hung Low'. And was that Xpac as Mankind? Good job! Of course, I missed Christian and Edge (well, they were on Heat).

But the partnership of Chyna and Chris Jericho as IC Champ was a strange decision-I guess the Royal Rumble will feature a definitive Championship match between the two. Personally, I waited for Chyna to get into Steph's face after her decision! I was telling Rebecca, I was disappointed that HHH had nothing to say about it-let him pull for Chyna the way Steph pulls for Kurt Angle. Speaking of Stephanie, I'm tired of reading columns putting down her looks-you're entitled to your opinion but I think she's a pretty girl. As for being fat-she looks like a normal woman! Obviously, all these silicone stacked size 2 women on tv are warping your ideas of what a real woman looks like!

    Some Random Thoughts-

  • Why are Mae and Moolah still in the ring? I'd love to know what Jacky, Luna and Ivory (and Tori too) think of these two getting matches while they languish in the locker room. I don't know-the women's division seems to be stuck between a rock and a hard place. When they do have matches-it's been pudding, gravy or evening gown matches so what's the point?

  • Now that Stone Cold is on the shelf, I see that the Rock has replaced him as the newest target on the Net. Last year, he was praised but now that he's truly the people's champ, it's fashionable to bash him. Well, I never will. He's another one between a rock and hard place-you complain if he does his catchphrases, you complain if he doesn't. Oh well.

  • What was JR smoking when he referred to DX as high caliber? Road Dogg, Billy Gunn and Xpac? Or when he referred to the New Age Outlaws as the best tag team in WWF history?  Whatever he's smoking should be outlawed immediately!

  • I cannot believe WOW magazine has chosen Diamond Dallas Page as the Wrestler of the Year-Ted Turner must've sent them lovely bonuses! How else did they come upon that decision?

  • You know, I swore off even thinking about the creative team at WCW but I keep reading things about them that drive me crazy! The newest was the small war of words between Russo and Dave Meltzer-Meltzer made a remark about Russo's booking 'being retarded'. Russo replied that it obviously wasn't because 'of the large sum of money that he's being paid by a large company'. Well, Vince, I got news for you-Joe Esterhaus got paid a lot of money for his script "Showgirls", Sylvester Stallone and Adam Sandler get paid millions-that doesn't make it great! In a fair world, teachers would be making millions while you would be making not even a quarter of what you're making now! There's not a lot of people making what they're worth and you definitely head the list!
OK, enough about that. Welcome to the new year. Until next time, dear readers.......
