SHARON'S EDGE

Greetings, sports entertainment fans! Well, as usual, Rebecca and I are on the same page (in more ways than one!) 'Armageddon' really lived up the hype. What a way to end the year! Follow that up with a good post PPV program and you have the #1 wrestling fed living up to its promise! Who were those two guys that used to work here again? Anyway-despite my praise, I didn't like everything about the PPV and no, I'm not referring to Miss Kitty; I'm speaking of the Big Show/BBM match.
Somehow I didn't get any kind of thrill out of it-after all the hell that BBM has put Paul through, it just didn't seem rough enough. I don't know, maybe it's me. Well, mercifully, it was short, so onto other topics!
December 12,1999: a date that live in infamy (with all due apologies to all you WWII vets out there) The date that Stephanie McMahon turned her back on her family and jumped into the arms of HHH. I was calling her 'EVIL' but then I thought about all that her father had put her through. The very things she spoke about on RAW-stalking her, kidnapping her, forcing her into a mock wedding-using her as a pawn in his game to trap Stone Cold Steve Austin. Can you blame her for what she's done? I don't. Of course, if you don't think you're ready for marriage-MARRYING someone to get back at your father isn't the way to do it. Now sleeping with most of the roster, only to discover you're pregnant, but you're not sure who's the father would've been a really good revenge.(Well, the sleeping with part-I'd start with Edge and Rocky! but I digress).
Frankly, I'm confused by the fans' reaction-if she'd done what I suggested, you could call her a 'slut' but what did she do?
She married her father's worst enemy! Emphasis on the word 'Married',folks! I don't think that makes you a slut.  As for the bitch part, well, I'm not sure I'd call her that either. She was trying to make her father understand her actions. After all, he layed the groundwork for her betrayal. The only true innocent victim in all this is Test-he loved Steph and wanted to marry her. But I have to wonder about him too-after all, his reaction to the whole wedding debacle was to blame Steph and he kept his distance after it. Where was he when HHH grabbed her for a kiss or went to the locker room to get HHH to sign the annulment papers?
Why wasn't he going after HHH for what he had done? I mean, for God's sake, he fought her brother just for the right to go out with her, why not a guy who (supposedly) drugged his fiancee and married her? Actually, I think Steph might have gotten even more heat if Test had tried to be her knight in shining armor-imagine how more shocking it would've been to have her set him up. All in all, this heel turn has really made her character. And she looks like she's having a ball!! But her heel turn seems to have been overshadowed by the sight of breasts.I want to know what the is big deal? I'm not a parent but I do watch wrestling with my 15 year old neice and 10 year old nephew. I think I can say they were not harmed by the sight of a woman's breasts- my nephew's reaction? 'Yuk!'
It's amazing-you've watched almost 3 hours of men beating each other up, yet the sight of breasts are going to scar your children? I would hope sometime in their life, children will see breasts more than they'll see men shooting each other! Why is it that violence is fine but nudity isn't?? Aren't we all naked beneath our clothes? Rebecca and I discussed this and she made a good point about such an act 'objectifies' women-it does but it seems that damn near everything in American society does too!
Why else have beauty pageants or Playboy models at car shows? And it's tough to get past that because for every women who won't do it (Debra) you have one that definitely will (the Cat)! Who's to blame? It's almost like the chicken and the egg debate-is it the men who write it or the women that are willing to do it? I don't know about that but I do know this, after that PPV a star was born!
    Onto some random thoughts-

  • Aaawww, so now WCW's new creative team is blaming Standards & Practices for the low ratings. Yeah, OK, VR, couldn't be that the curiousity factor is over now that you've proven you're just a one trick pony, could it? I finally visited the rec.arts.pro-wrestling news group and geez, there's one guy who really seems to buy this whole powers that be thing.
  • Actually, if this whole S&P thing is true, then obviously you're not the 'powers', are you?
  • I really liked the Rock & Sock against the Dudleys! I loved the Rock's 'it d-d-doesn't matter who you are!'
  • Isn't it rather belittling (to them) when the Rock doesn't know who most of the roster is? And isn't that the point? He knows Mick, Stone Cold, Kane, Billy Gunn and HHH-that's it!
  • Wouldn't it be something if Paul Bearer (and not UT) is the Big Show's father? And excuse me, but is being a bastard such a HUGE freakin' deal these days when lots of people live together and have kids without being married? In Vince's day, sure it was a stigma but now? Fuggetaboutit!
  • How is Chyna handling all this wedding stuff? And just what is she doing in regard to Chris Jericho?
  • You know this whole Steph/HHH/Vince angle would fold like a tent if Vince welcomed HHH into the family with open arms! Part of the this whole story is both Steph & HHH getting back at Vince (not to mention a title shot)! I think that's what happened with Test, as soon as the family accepted him, the thrill was gone for Steph. Come here, Test, I'll comfort you. Poor baby...
Well, that's it from me. Until next time, dear readers.............
