Award Description:

To be given to the worst wrestling match you've seen this year, either live,
on TV, PPV, or in an arena, or on tape. If it took place in the past year,
it is eligible.

CHRIS BIRD: Kennel in the Cell will no doubt go down in wrestling history
as one of the worst ideas of all time. Fabulous Moolah beating someone a
QUARTER HER AGE...yeah, sure, whatever. Vince McMahon winning the World
title belt cheapened and tarnished it forever.

EDC: The nWo Finger poke match was a slap in the face of anybody that's
ever set foot in the ring. Hogan/Piper part 304992 was pretty bad. Ivory
and the to old ladies in a strip match was a really, REALLY Bad Idea.

RFLAGG13: The fingerpoke of doom reminded me of the Shawn Michaels/Triple
H "match"  for the Euro title on Raw sometime in 97, but at least that one
had the benefit of being amusing. The Undertaker and Bossman managed to
completely ruin the Hell In A Cell match, which is quite a feat. And for
our third exhibit, Hogan denies Flair the WCW title at Superbrawl IX in
one of the most despicable acts of ego running rampant that I've ever
seen. Despite being beaten down on Nitro for 15 damn minutes, Flair still
had to do the job. And sentiment aside, the match sucked.

K. CANZANELLA: Hey, let's put two cages inside each other, put two guys
inside who don't do much, and on the outside, put a few puppy dogs who are
into sniffing each other's asses as protection. And let's make it the
climax of an animal-knapping murder. It would be coherent and sports
entertaining. Goldust v. Godfather was a comedy match, and yet I wasn't
laughing. Sable and Tori blew more spots than Sunny would blow men in
their match.

SVEN MASCARENHAS: I've got nothing funny to say about this one other than
to note the date of the Hogan / Disciple match

AARON: That big schmoz at HOW was probably the worst match of all time.
Can't wait to see what's brewing for the next PPV! Kennel From Hell was
nauseating, as were any of the matches involving Moolah.

DON BECKER: Was there anything more pathetic than watching Jake Roberts'
performance at Heroes Of Wrestling?  I mean, it could've been somewhat
watchable if Roberts were in better condition.  Snow/Bossman in the Double
Doggie Death Match was ruined by a shitty gimmick.  For my third vote, I
have to go off the board and pick Muta/Nita from Jingyu Stadium, which had
one bright spot - the death of Onita's Muta knockoff.

SHAWN MULLIN: I can't think of anything worse than watching Ivory attempt
to disrobe 2 women over 70.  However, I put Bossman vs. Undertaker here
because even though their match wasn't the worst, it devalued the greatest
match gimmick I've ever seen.  I mean, destroyed its prestigue.  The
kennell match didn't help it much either, and I've never heard of anything
dumber or more convoluted.  Ok, maybe that 3 level cage from way back, but
lets not go there.

MAX CHITTISTER: How many matches did I see this year that made me
embarrased to be a wrestling fan? Too many, most of them involving women
getting their clothes ripped off.

BLOB: You had 2 of WCW's complete worst in Nash/Hogan and I don't think
they could've put on a better match if they wanted to (LOL!). The Brawl
For All really took Bart Gunn's credibility down a lot. The Hardcore
Invitational Junkyard Battle Royal was the absolute worst it could've
possibly been, with the wrong people going over, etc.

GEORGE CARTER:  Bossman/Snow and Bossman/UT were HORRID !!! And the
Hogan/Nash retirement match was SO anti-climatic and BORING ! The only
reason I saw that PPV was to see Hogan retire.

JOHN C.:Hogan vs. Nash at Road Wild was the worst of them all because it
was actually a world title match and main event. Hogan literally did two
moves and they were the big foot and legdrop which my two year old son can
do. It was just a sickening match to watch and will remain the worst world
title match I've ever seen as the main event on a PPV, even worse than
Diesel vs.  Mabel.

JON RICHARDSON: The fact that Eric Bischoff would even consider booking
himself over Ric Flair is such a disgusting idea that this match easily
rates worst match of the year.  On the blow-off PPV of the year, Bischoff
can't give one of the most popular wrestlers in history a clean win over a
non-wrestler?  Talk about ego.  Moolah vs. Ivory made the list because
80-year old women should not be involved in wrestling matches, and they
certainly shouldn't be winning titles.  Kennel in a Cell gets my last vote
because it wins the award for the "stupidest gimmick match in NA I've ever
heard of".  How the match could be any good when saddled with a gimmick
that bad is beyond me.

JAN-MORTIZ KAEDING: Piper v. Hall gave me nightmares.

ELLIOT SPARKS: The worst match of the year has to be something
spectacular. Not only does it have to be nauseatingly bad, it has to do so
on as many levels as possible. For the first time in history, I think we
have a winner; a match that scored 100% failure in every category. I'm
talking about pathetic action. I'm talking about terrible camera angles,
making most of the match unwatchable. I'm talking about total lack of
hype; it was only announced a week before it took place. On top of all
that, I'm talking about a myriad of injuries; it wielded a separated
shoulder, a broken foot, multiple concussions, and a glass-cut that nearly
removed Silver King's face. Indeed, I'm talking about the Bash at the
Beach 'Junkyard Invitational' match. It's almost on par with the
Uncensored '96 triple-deck cage match, if it needs explaining any further.

JOE GENTILE:  Bluedust vs. Golddust could have been SO MUCH more. If onlyu
they even TRIED to build up a story behind it!

CHANCE50JR: I think Golddust v. Godfather on RAW was the absolute low
point for the IC-title.  Wait--isn't the Road Dog a former ic-champion?  
Geez, it hasn't been a good year at all for the IC belt.

RUTGERSGYM: About the alleged Heroes of Wrestling main event: Chris Benoit
is the only person who could possibly carry a drunk Jake Roberts, and
Yoko, Neidhart, and Bundy are no Benoits.  If I was more merciful, I
wouldn't vote for the Hardcore junkyard battle royal because what I can't
see (in this case half the damn match) can't hurt me, but I'm not, so it
gets second.  Third is the Human Blown Spot Reel that was Sable vs. Ivory.  
But at least it was short.

JOE GAGNE: Berlyn/Jim Duggan from Fall Brawl was a train wreck—Duggan no
sold everything, and Berlyn actually needed help to beat his sorry ass.  
That match destroyed any hope the Berlyn gimmick had to get over.  And
after his matches with Al Snow and the Undertaker, it's safe to say that
the Big Bossman should be allowed near any kind of cage anytime soon.

SEAN FLYNN: The reformation of the nWo, what a god-awful mistake as it not
only devalued the title by a fake match, it gave to Hogan again, and tried
to continue the deadest angle this side of Larry Zybysko's gag order.

LUKE JOHNSTON: The nWo B-Team battle royal from 4/5/99 was easily the most
offensively pathetic match I saw all year. You know how it's not pleasant
to look at a catastrophic automobile accident when you pass by one on the
highway, but we all get that rubber-neck syndrome and do it anyway? That's
what watching this match was like.=20

ANDREW: The kennel from hell was like a nightmare from hell.

B. SZPAKOWICZ: Heroes of Wrestling just sucked shit as a whole. None of
the matches were even *remotely* good and all were really
indistinguishably bad, so when give the main event the top vote, it really
represents all of 'em. The Kennel from Hell was just horrid, and insults
the memories of all cage (and hell in a Cell) matches before and since.
Finally, Nash vs. Hogan on January Fourth. I enjoyed this when the WWF did
it with Shawn, Hunter and the European belt in '97. But a World Title
should *not* be treated like that.

LORIE:  Considering that WWF gets the heat for racy content, it is
surprising that WCW had two of the most sleazy matches in 1999 and that
the PTC is not after them for those matches.

SIMON ROBERTS: Seeing Mae Young in her underwear was NOT what I needed

RYAN GRANT:  I didn't think anything all year would be as bad as the HITC
match from Wrestlemania.  Al Snow and The Bossman managed to prove me
wrong with Hell in a Kennel.  Ugh, ugh, and ugh again.

KEVIN PODSIADLIK: I mean, when Jim Ross feels he has to effectively
apologize for a match...!

COLIN MACKINNON: I thought Roberts had battled back from his personal
demons.  I guess I was wrong.  The Heroes of Wrestling match was a -*****
match, and did a fantastic job of exposing the business.  Snow and Bossman
tried, but the Kennel from Hell concept was horrible.

JEREMY SORIA: They really, really dropped the ball with the Royal Rumble
in 1999, as bad as they did in 1994 (the "tie" with Bret and Luger) .
Russo and Ferrara should be ashamed of themselves, but they aren't. They
followed up that poor effort with the Rock/Mankind match that they (or
USA) didn't even bother to beam out to the West Coast when Halftime rolled
around that night.  What could have been an interesting and good PPV
turned extremely ugly, and this tag team match is definitive proof.

MATT SPAULDING: 1st: Whoever booked that boxing match (on a PPV, no less)
should be run out of wrestling.  Oh, wait...  2nd: The double cage format
has potential, but it wasn't done right here.  3rd: What's sad about this
is, if it's just Venis v. Jarrett without Nicole and Debra, it becomes a
pretty GOOD match.

MDB: Everybody sing, 'He tried to kill me with a forklift!!' Poor
Undertaker.  Going for the threepeat MotY and he gets Bossman in the cell.
